Too bad that's meaningless and doesn't matter for a spec of shit. Now say they discovered something relevant and helpful that would be cool maybe cure something. But no we keep talking about things like this that have no affect on our lives What so ever

  • This guy sums it up nicely to people like you:
I ask any American what happened in 1492? They’ll tell me, “Well Columbus sailed in 1492,” and that is correct, he did. But that is not the only thing that happened in 1492. In 1492, England and France signed a peace treaty. In 1492, the Borgias took over the papacy. In 1492, Lorenzo De’Medici, the richest man in the world, died. Okay? A lot of things happened, if there had been newspapers in 1492, which there weren’t, but if there had, those would have been the headlines, not this Italian weaver’s son taking a bunch of ships and sailing off to nowhere, okay? But Columbus is what we remember, not the Borgias taking over the papacy. Well, 500 years from now, people are not going to remember which faction came out on top in Iraq, or Syria, or whatever, and who was in and who was out and you know….but they will remember what we do to make their civilization possible, okay? So this is the most important thing we could do, the most important thing we could do in this time, and if you have it in your power to do something great and important and wonderful, then you should.
If we all followed your logic, we would be useless and humanity would be a speck itself in a world where we wouldn't even have gone to space. This is useless? Tell that to everyone who has made the electronics you use possible. I'm sorry, but your point of view is incredibly ignorant.

  • One could say the same thing of ants. What would happen if half of an ant colonies workers were wiped out? Nothing much, they'd expand back out in time. Yes we build off each other, but all individuals are worthless, even if they did something notable. If they hadn't, someone else would with time. Like I said start thinking millennia. Slowly when and who did things stops mattering. In the long scale if humans sailed the Atlantic in 1492 or 4092 won't matter. That was my point, that the human race needs to focus on long term survival more than we do. Everyone's working on a better viagra so old dudes can get their bone on, but someone wants to point out this as a waste?

  • I understand everything you say and the importance of going to space initially but from what I can see this is completely useless information

  • Understanding how to manipulate space time could change a 100000 year journey into a 1 second hop. Now that's an extreme theoretical possibility for that scale of change and we are probably many generations away from having even having a chance to try to manipulate these effects, but confirming that it happens and starting to understanding how it happens is the first step to us making it happen when we want, where we want, and the exact way we want.

  • And you are what's wrong with the progressive and exploration thinking of this generation. Our planet is ruined and will become inhabitable relatively soon. Our only choice as mankind is to be looking into the stars and looking for ways to inhabit other planets.

  • This discovery and further research on it will most likely provide more longevity to the human race than curing everything would. We gotta figure out how to get the hell off this planet, then out of this solar system. Too many things can wipe a planet out. Don't think lifetime, think millennia at minimum. because as harsh as it sounds, you are worthless on a cosmic scale... Every individual is.

But together... It's like, say, our sun. Imagine it was the same thing, but only the size of the Earth. Useless. Now... since 1.3 million Earths can fit into the Sun, take the mini sun and multiply it by 1.3 million. Holy crap, you got THAT thing. Useful, to us at least. But if you take 1 Mini-sun out of that 1.3 worth of Mini-suns, nothing happens. It's useless and doesn't matter. Humans build upon each other, not themselves.
