WHO THOUGHT FARMING FOR ESSENTAIL ELEMENTS WOULDBE A FUN FREAKING QUEST?????????? THIS IS THE MOST BORING THING EVER
Seriously.... who on Earth/Mars/Venus/Moon OK'd this quest????
I have 4/10 solar thingys and im gunna rip my head off and eat it if I have to open anymore helium coils. The Solar Sword will be the only exotic sword I will get.....THIS IS NOT WORTH GRINDING FOR. JUST LET ME SHOOT STUFF
Remember Y1, nobody liked farming for materials......still goes the same thing for Y2. Ya think they would learn.

Edit: was Y1 player. Look at emblems. Didn't farm in Y1 for same reason it was boring imo. Make an exciting quest for the swords. I'm grateful that they are not RNG, but it's just not that interesting of a quest

Farm the taken events at the same time. It breaks it up and you can get exotics from the ultras. Some zones are easy to solo them too. Just not the ones with sniper adds.

1 ReplyTrying using a ghost that marks nearby helium filaments, relic iron, or spin metal. I didn't use one for my first sword and I thought the same thing, that I wouldn't try and go for the other 2. Using a particular ghost can speed things up a bit, but I will admit, it was still a grind.

3 RepliesHey buddy. Equip a ghost that lets you see the material, then pull a sniper out and sight in. It will point out every resource node in the area. Quest took me about 45 minutes on earth with that strat.

1 ReplyIts easy to get them, but its somewhat time consuming. [b] [/b] For helium filaments, try to get one to spawn outside of the building to left of where you spawn. If one does spawn there all you do I collect it, get on your sparrow and drive down the passage to the helmouth until it says that you're there. Then you drive back and it should be there again, rinse and repeat. For Spinmetal you do the same, go to the rocketyard and try to get one to spawn by the building. You collect it go inside the building until it says you're in a different area then return and collect, rinse and repeat. Same goes with relic iron, go to the tunnel on the left of spawn and get one to spawn one closest to the tunnel (4 spawn close to it.) Collect, drive back through tunnel and return to relic iron and repeat until you have all 10.

2 RepliesThe biggest thing is to change areas. The first one I was grinding out using the old farming line. Then I realized if you change areas they drop much faster.

1 ReplyYa lol if you get one exotic sword you should get them all, that quest is too long for a exotic that won't be used over a rocket or lmg in pvp or a raid. ( fun for strikes) but it's just not a fun quest. First curse is a good example of what a quest should be ( except for the time gated BS) you rank up the gun Smith then have to have some skill to get the first curse. Rather then the swords quest that is just a massive amount of grinding on patrol that will make you cry yourself to sleep over. Rng + farming = rage

They're trying to extend the life of the game by making long, boring farm quests without having to add any real content.

This is the only real way to understand where and what materials are anyways. Vets like us hate these missions but yet we managed to grind it out in a couple of hours. Stop your B****ING and get it done like the rest of us. If you are a year 1farmer then you would know farming materials was the only thing we did because buying them was not an option. Admit it! Farming was fun because we were still exploring the lands of destiny. Noobs have it half bad! I also Remember the old bungie.net forums where MODS would quickly Warn and then Ban you for the overuse of CAPS.

Use a hunter with advanced tracking it shows you where all materials and chests are. Took me 45 minutes to get 10/10

Also I weep for you that you had to spend a couple hours finding helium filaments in order to be granted a guaranteed 310 exotic regardless of your current level that is one of the most powerful weapons in the game. Did I mention it's guaranteed and not RNG? So please cry some more about how awful it is.

was not that big of a deal. waiting on armsday and will have my 3rd sword. took me about ~1-1/2 hours to do each time. not that hard. heck, I was thankful when we realized we didn't need to go through the crucible parts of the quest for 2nd and 3rd sword. frankly, I was tickled pink all we have to do is farm some stuff and kill aluk-hul and his homies -and for those who don't know the Exotic Swords DO have value above the legendaries, -they can hold up to nearly 50% more ammo for "regular" attacks -and each one has a unique "special" attack -- the arc shoots a bolt of lightning, a projectile attack, extremely useful PVE, and even seen some good use in PVP ----the raze will stun majors and some ultras with it's special attack (this is the core of the sword strat for the black spindle mission... the arc and void don't stun ultras) ------the void has a circular attack that would be good for clearing groups of adds clustered around you (least useful IMO)
