Brymazz1, I'm similar to your story and I called our one and only local internet provider and they said it would be $21,000 to run the fiber another mile and a quarter to my house, so I'm stuck with a unreliable service. There is only a few houses between me and that one, so even if all 3 signed up it would be over $5000 each and that won't be happening obviously. Did you end up going to T1? I was recommended the same thing from my provider, and they were saying to bond two T1 lines together so they total 3 mbps. The problem for me is a scenario that can take place is that my son and I each are on Destiny, then my daughter is on Netflix watching shows (non-hd) and my wife is on facebook probably (I'm not sure if that's all exactly right, but close enough example to see how the data can be used quickly). I'd sign up if I knew there was a gamer able to use a single T1 and they said it worked fine or anyone that had T1 that used it for video and gaming, but I've found it hard to find any info on T1 users. Supposedly the T1 has a great ping rate and is a guaranteed constant 3mbps up and down feed, so maybe as long as my home network is good and not choking the signal in any way, that would be enough to skim by.

  • So yeah. I did end up getting a t1 line. 21000 is crazy. I still dont understand cable companies. They make a lot of money and should provide internet for all. Maybe one day. Anyway. I had to jump yhrough a lot of hoops to get the t1 line. Nitel ended up setting me up byt it took them about 1.5 months to set up a line as they had to run repeater boxs and wire from wherever it starts to my house. They took that expence... but they wont give service to a person. It has to be a busisness. So for 100 dollars i set up a small busisness to use for my internet... i dont do anything with it but its what nitel wanted. So i have it all set up. Its like 1.5 up and down. I can watch netflix nicely if noone else is using it. And my wife and i can play games together no problem. She is usually on ESO and i am on destiny. The service is about 240 a month. Srrvice fee of 200 and then 30 for renting a managed router from them. Plus tax. Down load speed is super slow so updates over a gig usually take a day.. i just leave ps4 in rest mode over night. Usually gives it enough time. My contract is for 3 years.. and i hope that maybe in that time comcasy or century link will make its way down here. But service with the t1 is good. It takes some getti g used to. I do not have it con ected to wirelless router.. i tried and it just streches it a bit too thin. One day there will be reasonable good Internet for all.

  • Thanks for the info. It is definitely disheartening to think that I've been a customer of theirs for 10 years and they can move a line over 6000 ft since I'm sure if they did they would figure out a way to get some more subscribers than just me alone, but that's a different discussion for sure. Supposedly they are going to come out and take a look at everything I currently have to make sure there isn't some other issues with my set up or at the line itself. We'll see. Again, thanks and take care.
