The exodus from the Tower.

It's been fun, really. From the beginning I tamed the Light so that I may dispatch powerful enemies with fiery bolts from afar. The Golden Gun was my first taste of the true power of the Light and I mastered it, made it mine. Afterwards the ways of the Bladedancer were made known to me. I studied these blades of Light and learned of their practicality in ravaging multiple minions of the Darkness, their ability to bend Light around me, and the restorative powers they possessed. Now, just recently uncovered, I have learned to grasp the Void itself and bend it to my will. With it I have suppressed my enemies and detained them so that I may make short work of them. I spent a lot of time fighting to strengthen my resolve, grinding the early (grueling) bounty system of the Tower, taking the fight to other Guardians in Iron Banner, and even gave Trials of Osiris a shot though I'm not too keen on combating my fellows. I have patrolled the planets of the solar system in the name of the Vanguard and Dead Orbit. I spent days entrenched in the shimmering halls of the Vault and sprinting through the dark corridors of the Hellmouth. I have faced Oryx many a time. I forged swords, found plans to mysterious weapons, and danced. Oh, did I dance. I met, conversed, and danced with my brethren during the Festival of the Lost, purchased silly masks (was always particularly fond of the Xûr one, curious creature), and learned fantastic new grooves from Tess. Most recently I've tried my hand in a few Sparrow Races. With prototype weapons I engaged in battle for the sake of Banshee-44 and his research. Even got a few new guns to show for it. I have discarded armors and weapons that served their purpose but have fallen short of the strength of my foes. I kept those that saved my life innumerable times, as keepsakes and reminders of the wars fought and won. Sorry Guardian, I know you didn't come here to be regaled by my tales. I'm sure you have many of your own. In all seriousness. I love(d) this game, its concept, its gameplay, and (most of) its design. Now unfortunately it seems that Bungie (Activision?) is forgoing that love. I was okay with purchased emotes, Sparrows, and masks as they were purely fun. Now those emotes are available in Nightfall rewards. Why did I buy them again? How long until the Sparrows and masks end up there? Not that egregious but it seems a little odd to backtrack and make them free only after they’ve been paid for. The biggest offender though, the one that hurts the most, is the new booster packs. Bungie (Activision?) has decided that there is price on all the work/grinding/dancing we’ve done and it’s $29.99. I’ve already felt that the work I’ve done in vain with most of the gear I’ve accumulated now mostly worthless (oh Fatebringer, how I miss you.) and quickly discarded/stored. New Guardians need simply be reanimated in a place of wealth and -blam- they’re able to be up to par without exploring the world and discovering its dangers as we did. The need to make money is valued over the need to legitimize the time grizzled veterans have sunk in the game. On the subject of gear, I understand Rare and Legendary items being quickly replaced, but raid items too? Exotics? The things we worked the hardest to attain now outstripped by Rares? Don’t get me wrong, the raids were a blast and I enjoyed every minute of my first handful of triumphs. However, the stinginess of the RNG system made those Raids a chore and frustrating. Instead of alternate modifiers, paths, and challenges, we were forced to find dairy products and treated to the same thing every week for little to no reward. I’m not saying I need/want to use Fatebringer/Swordbreaker/Ice Breaker forever, but is a little longer too much to ask? We were given a way to upgrade old Legendary weapons once but even that was scrapped. That’s basically it. I want to be a part of the world, but I am constantly reminded that my time here has no value, and honestly? It -blam!-ing sucks. I'll still check in from time to time. I want to find a reason to come back, truly. I haven't given up yet. For now, my time will be better spent exploring other parts of the galaxy. There'll be another time.

    • First and foremost, you are an excellent writer, an your eloquent use of the English language had me swooning. :) Second, I agree with you. I love the universe, the idea that is Destiny. Bungie has created a fantastic canvas upon which they've laid very little paint, and it kills me to know that they're driving players away with petty attempts at money-making. This universe could be so fantastic, and heaven forbid it reach that potential because there are so many who've sworn never to come back, and they're going to miss it! (To be honest, I still play, and I do so because I have friends who enjoy the game. I still enjoy parts of this game, and playing with friends is what makes it worthwhile. But I preordered vanill.a Destiny, The Dark Below, The House of Wolves, and even The Taken King. I will never preorder anything else from Bungie/Activision. I will subject myself to the spoilers of a game review a week after each release, rather than support an unscrupulous business practice that has begun to permeate the Tower.

      • I feel you fellow Guardian... The old adventures I had with my best of friends have become nothing but... Memories. I have no way to re-live those awesome moments with them. Farming VOG on all three characters with my friend to get that beautiful Fatebringer (He never got it. Even after over 70 hard runs). Farming the wolves in the Skywatch to get treasure keys and hope to get that Her Benevolence. Hell! Even just patrolling! The fun I had just patrolling Earth, Moon, Venus, and Mars was better than doing the new raid. Cheesing Crota, killing Skolas after hours of trying. Carrying that one friend through the Trials so he could get flawless. I can never re-live those moments. Bungie (Activision) killed their own game. Right now there is only one patrol zone that actually helps you. The Dreadnought. Only one raid! King's fall, the most tedious and annoying raid EVER! Which gives you AWFUL guns and never ever gives you want you need. For 3 weeks all I got was the boots for my hunter. OVER and OVER again. They made all year one activities useless when they barely have enough content to last 2 months. Destiny year 2 has been an epic fail. Everything went wrong. They were better off with OP hand cannons and long ranged shot guns. Destiny Year 2 now has Micro Transactions! The devil himself has been put into Destiny! Destiny Year 2 has no content what-so-ever and now Bungie isn't giving us a new DLC until YEAR 3!? Its just not fair... I have stuck with Destiny and called it my favorite game ever since release, but now... It's not even on my top 5. Why would ANYONE want to play a content-less game like Destiny when you can play games like Battlefront or Rainbow Six: Siege? The crucible hasn't changed since September 15, 2015... Everyone still uses pulse rifles... And year two just LOADED on the OP pulse rifles, such as Hawksaw, Nirwen's Mercy, Refection Sum. I have barely seen any Scout Rifles or Hand cannons, and rarely come across auto rifles. Shotguns and snipers still dominate, I never see a fusion rifle and yet they still get nerfed? Why the hell are you nerfing the worst gun in the game! I see more side arms then I do hand cannons. PvE is dull and boring. Only one Raid. Only 2 new strikes. And a bunch of missions that were fun, but... Lacked story once again. All new exotics are really pointless and no body uses them (Save for the new Twilight Garrison and Tarantula). The only good exotic is a year one exotic. I still hope for this game. Maybe one day it will be the fun, adventurous game I played in the not so distant past.

      • Come and breathe the free air again my friend. Leave this immediate impending train wreck while you can still get out with some semblance of sanity. You won't regret it.

        • Great post! ! I love the way you worded the first half! I had slow motion visuals going on in my head like I was watching the last episode of my favourite programme, and all of the best parts were being shown to some sad song lol! It's a shame that the game is losing so many veteran players like you... It would be great to be able to wind back the clock and start year 1 again :-)

          • Y2 Guardians are not ready to replace all the fallen veteran heroes from Y1. The Last City is doomed to fall. GUARDIAN DOWN!

          • My thoughts exactly. We went from special forces to Mario cart. If mankind was actually stupid enough to face the darkness with the weapon nerfs and handicaps bungie put on us then mankind deserves enslavement.

          • It's like hearing from my Warlock Exo (Mara rest her soul D: ) it's just a trend I've fallen into and didn't realize. I quit Destiny back when Crota haunted the dreams of guardians and children. The RNG became so infuriating I had to retire my poor Warlock just to have an open profile for additional raids for a secondary Titan just to have a better chance to get what I needed from the prince's malformed corpse, which still ended in regret and an empty Helm slot. (Still never got it) So I left the system shortly after hard raid was out, only to return the last month of year 1. And I got into the Gunslinger and finally got the exotic I'd been hoping to get for so long, Hard Light. I knew it wasn't "good" or "meta" but I wanted it. I love a challenge weapon, which is why I used y1 NLB in trials till it recently came out for y2. But then just recently I quit my defense of Tower and Title for other games. The wastelands called to me. As did the man called Clancy. Once I heard of the Sparrow Racing League I reluctantly came back to the tower, weary of how it might play out but secretly excited the game had something new to it that was nothing but skill can skill. (Not perk roll vs perk roll) The first week it was fun! I did win most races which was thanks to my love of racing games and of corse my Red Bull sparrow (don't judge! x0) Soon I found though once again, your connection dictates victory. I soon was being knocked around like a ragdoll and finding opponents blinking all over the track. Frustration peeked. I rage quit for only the second time ever in this game. Last night I legitimately questioned why I keep coming back to the game even though I get burned every time. What is it? Hope. The hope that my faith in the game, in Bungie, would finally pay off. That the core problems would finally be solved. But it seems these issues still exist. You can still win with a bad connection. You can still shoot the air and kill the guy 5 feet to the left (refer to a recent highlight of KJHOVEY) aim assist as a stat, instead of just present in the game (as most console shooters do) Through what I can only guess is just blind admiration I attributed ever major problem to Activision. Know for their terrible business practices and lack of care for the fans of their games I would claim "it's not Bungies fault, it's those -BLAM!- at Activision!" Now though it's become harder and harder to believe it. Since when did Bungie take that much bull ish from another company? Isn't that kinda control what made them leave Microsoft? It couldn't be the case, right? Right?

            • The Last city on Earth will soon fall fellow Guardian, as we leave and look back one last time we wounder what happened to our once amazing world, as the walls fall we shall hope for a better tomorrow and as the Traveler leaves to set out on yet another journey we shall move onward to new experiences in our new existence.
