CAN WE LOOK AT SUNSINGERS FOR A SECOND!?

*DISCLAIMER* This is going to be a long post. Please try and refrain from commenting if you aren't going to read it all, as you might comment about a point i may have already addressed in my post. --------------------------------------------------------------------- So Titans support class is Defender. Hunters support class is Nightstalker. Warlocks have Sunsinger. I feel like the Warlock support class is lacking. Let's look at the perks. Now you could argue that self res supports the fireteam but it's uses are limited and situational. A perk that requires you to die doesn't really stack up to weapons of light or black hole. So strike that off the list for fireteam support. Radiant skin increases your defense greatly while in radiance. So your just supporting yourself. Next. Let's move to song of flame. It decreases your allies cool downs. THIS IS THE PERK THAT COULD MAKE THIS SUPPORT CLASS. That is... if it wasn't for the fact that the only cool downs that affect your allies are the grenade and melee cool downs. To make this a true support class I think it should effect our allies super cool down as well. BEFORE YOU SHUT MY IDEA DOWN AND CALL IT OVERPOWERED..... hear me out. First of all the super cooldown would not affect the Sunsinger because he is already in his super and the meter constantly drains while in radiance. If you are unfamiliar with song of flame, here is what it does. It decreases the cooldown times for your allies grenade and melee allowing your team to use them faster. The speed of the cooldown effect is directly affected by that teammates discipline and strength stat. So lets say i have 2 teammates. The 1st one has max discipline and 0 strength. My 2nd teammate has 0 discipline and max strength. Song of flames buff is directly affected by the teamate(s) (who's under the effect of the buff) stats. Therefore if I activate song of flame and my 1st teamate has max discipline, they will be able to throw grenades faster than my 2nd teammate who only has a 0 discipline stat while under the effects of song of flame. But my 2nd teammate's melee cooldown will be faster than my 1st teammate's melee when under the effects of song of flame. Well with this in mind the super cooldown would be affected the same way. If your fireteam members have high intelligence stats, their super would cooldown faster. Okay next is grenades. They're fine. Now melee. It's main perk is burn damage over time. It's 3 tree perks are the problem. Almost every Sunsinger uses flames held because the other 2 perks are so underwhelming to use. So let's look at the perks for melee. Flameshield: Grants a temporary overshield. This perk is fine the way it is. Solarwind: Knocks back enemies on hit. Really? Where is this useful? Certainly not in the nightfall where one of the modifiers prevents staggering and flinching. Pvp? Maybe others use this well in crucible but an overshield is much more reliable than pushing an enemy backward. This perk is just too situational. I suggest replacing it with something like melting point (enemies who are hit take more damage) or a blinding effect. Something that supports the fireteam. Maybe even something like if you melee a teammate to grant them a temporay over shield and agility boost. Or maybe even something like reviving a teammate from a distance instantly by using your melee when your reticle is over their ghost. (These are just some ideas. I'm not actually suggesting these specific ideas be used.) Finally we have brimstone: killing an enemy causes them to explode. Once again I can see its uses but it's just to situational. So let's buff it a bit. For instance, any enemy who is hit by the explosion takes damage over time. Melting point comes to mind again with this idea. Or something like the enemy that explodes leaves a sunspot there that allies can walk through to get a weapon damage buff or allies that stand in have their cooldowns reduced while in it (or any sort of buff). Now I feel every other perk is fine except for these last two: Sunburst- Having to kill an enemy with your melee just for a CHANCE to grant an orb isn't really worth it when the other two perks (radiant will: which increases the duration of radiance / viking funeral: which increases the time an enemy is burned and increases said burn damage) are much better options. An example idea for a buff is enemies killed by burn damage grant an orb of light or kills with scorch while your super is charged grant an orb of light. Angel of light- Once again gift of the sun (extra grenade) and touch of flame (all grenades ignite enemies and cause burn damage over time) are much better options. I know it has some use in Pvp but I feel like an extra grenade or causing burn damage with grenades are a much more viable option than being able to hover in the air for a short time while aimed down sights. Personally I don't care what happens with this perk. I just want it gone and a more viable perk in its place. For those of you who made it through this whole post thanks for sticking with me. Do you guys agree with me or disagree? Do you think Sunsinger should get a second look to keep up with the other support classes? Do you think my idea for song of flame should be implemented (lord knows I really want it happen)? Should all the old and or redundent subclasses be reworked to stand out like the new ones?   • I agree, except I think we should leave Angel of Light in there. But the whole sunspots with Brimstone thing seems like a great idea.

  • I gotta agree with you. Minus the self rez it is by far the least useful, outside of raids with no resurrecting, ESPECIALLY in pvp. I managed to complete the crucible quest line for my warlock where you had to get w certain number of crucible kills with various abilities including super and it took FAR longer to do than on either of the other subclasses. When I got to the challenge that involved super kills I naturally jumped into mayhem. OMG talk about a flaw personified. The self Rez was literally useless due to no time between respawns. The cool reduced cool down for teammates perk was even more useless. The over shield? What over shield? I died in the exact same Number of hits when radiance had activated as when it wasn't active. The melee worked, but activating radiance didn't even show an over shield, making the perk literally useless. It took me forever to get that quest done, and I hated being stuck using sunsinger when all I wanted to do was play with my nova bomber and SITH lord classes :(. Bottom line, I fully agree. It needs a buff. If that radiance perk gave you a shield/armor like what the sunbreaker Titans Had I would be ok. Hell the warlocks don't have the hammers of doom (and fusion grenades don't seek like they used to) so why not?

      • I think bladedancers should get a little more armor, golden guns get precision damage, and sunbreakers tweaked to a little more support. This would fix and improve all the super problems. Golden guns can one shot hammers and stop whining. Bladedancers are finally viable options again. And sunsingers fulfill their role as support.

      • TL;DR maybe? Sorry, got a 5 minute break now. If you reply i could read it after work. But (sorry in advance if you already stated this in your post) sunsingers are pretty good. They are built around their super with an adition to build around grenades (viking funeral etc.) You can choose to self-res or you could make the recharge of your team's grenades and melee faster. Or if you are a lone-wolf you can slap radiant skin on (same damage reduction as sunbreakers) and with the OH-KO melee giving you an overshield you are able to tank a [u]direct impact[/u] rocket launcher where a sunbreaker can't tank it. Mobility: let's talk about the mobility of the support classes (while using their supers). Pvp: hunters have almost no mobility when using their super. You tether a group of enemies but for it to work you should stay in that area. (Tether 'em, shoot 'em, continue without super) Titans: bubble's have no mobility. Armor of light has no mobility uses. Blessing and weapons of light have a limited mobility. (You can hunt that enemy down with a damage or overshield boost, but when the timer runs out you should get back to keep the advantage) Sunsingers: you can use your super, jump to the other side of the map and you still have your damage reduction, OH-KO melee with overshield and increased melee and grenade rechaege. You don't have to stay near the area where you used your super to make full use of it. This is all based on pvp. In pve it is easier to stand your ground, group up near a bubble and use your tether ofcourse, so mobility is not really effecting PvE. Ofcourse other supers like nova bomb, HoS, BD, golden gun, Stormcaller and FoH are (most times) better in pvp but that is because you can use your super to kill people. Defender, SunSinger and NightStalker are supers to let you kill enemies easier or survive longer (yeah, you can kill with a tether, but that is 1, 2 or maybe if you are lucky 3 people bit that is max)

          Your thinking of self Rez wrong, consider hard mode where everyone has one life, no ones going to want to take any risks, but you have one subclass that gets a second life every few min, more if you feed them orbs. Send them into harms way That sounds pretty useful in a game to me

          • Didn't read. Bungie will look at them for more than a second and have more data than you could ever have as well as being the developers of the game, meaning that in the end, they'll end up doing what they choose anyways. It's already been acknowledged and Bungie basically said "We heard you, we have our own data, now shut up." Nothing more that you say will influence the situation any further.

          • Personally, I run a Sunsinger as my main character. I have extensive experience with the subclass. In your post, you claim that sunsinger grenades are "fine." However, this is just not true. Sunsinger grenades are the most overpowered grenades in the game if the skill tree is used correctly. Viking Funeral and Touch of Flame paired with Firebolt grenades deals approximately 180 damage to a Guardian with 200 Health. Also, Sunsingers have the best melee in the game with Flame shield. Flame shield boasts the longest range in the game and is the only melee that will grant an overshield on HIT. Sunsinger needs to be nerfed in this regard. However, I agree with you 100% on the Song of Flame buff. I wouldn't mind if an exotic was released that granted Weapons of Light or Blessing of Light when you activate Song of Flame.

                And you can't just brush self Rez aside like you did. It's a raid saver. As for the melee... Play as a titan, then complain.

                • Angel of light could stay just buff it like you get an extended glide, or it also give you airborn to your grenade and melee snd it would stack eith the modifyer for everyone as well.

                • Being able to revive yourself in hard mode is arguably one of the best supers in the game. Being able to revive yourself in Trials is massive. I suggest you L2P before dismissing one of the most powerful abilities in these two situations, which are two of the only real hard content actually available.

                • It allows you to come back to life after death to clutch a game for your team =support Allows all sorts of abilities to give to teammates =support Allows you to spam grenades like there is no tomorrow =support. It's a support class. It's fine where it is. No need for buffs. Not supposed to be the best support in the game, it's supposed to match others. Which in my opinion coming back to life after death with a extra shield and reviving teammates to clutch a game or raid is already OP.

                • I actually don't mind Angel of Light, given that certain bosses have attacks based on floor contact. Can't really argue for the others though.

                • I think that sun singer definitely needs some tweaks, I wouldn't even really call it a support class aside from maybe being able to res and revive team mates or something. But it's really just a lone wolf class from the looks of it. I'd definitely like some useful team support!
