Hey Destiny community, my name is Steve and I work as a sport psychology consultant for the US military. I'm also an avid Destiny player and I recently spoke with the guys on the Crucible Radio podcast about mental tips to improve your performance in the crucible.
Check out the link to listen to some tips and suggestions I have for improving your mental game when playing in a highly competitive game type like Trials of Osiris (my appearance is about 30 minutes in). Tips for staying focused, calm, and getting into flow are discussed.
Happy to hear any questions or comments. You can hit me up in this thread or on Twitter @SportPsychNYLI.
Enjoy your trials experience this weekend!
EDIT:
I've had some great feedback and interest on the topic of the mental game in the crucible so I wanted to follow up and share the link to last week's crucible radio podcast. In the video about 23 minutes in the guys discuss how they are applying the tips we talked about to their Trials runs.
Specifically they talk about how having prepared and productive self talk statements like "One Shot One Kill" can be a useful way to stay focused on the process. Also, how practicing the deliberate breathing strategy has proven to be a successful way to cool off mentally and get back into the right mindset.
Check it out here and keep the conversation going below:

It's nice seeing experts in different fields applying their... expertise elsewhere in life, gives you a cool feeling when you know what's up and can help people in a different way, truly breaking it down for all to see :)

I'm just over the constant balls in my mouth from getting teabagged even when you're up 4-0. Sent one offender the following message " I'm from Australia we shake hands to make friends and say well done or good game. This custom of genitals in others mouths without so much as a hello is way to advanced for my liking"

Psychological warfare. T-bag everyone you kill so they rage and end the game faster xD.

Without watching the video yet... If you're a naturally anxious person or a person who struggles with pressure is their hope for you? I ask because my cousin deals with anxiety and he gets ticked that he can't complete a lot of things with me. He just ends of quitting due to frustration.

I know my problem lies in that I rush. I have no patience I just run up and start blasting and I get focus fired by the other team. Can't help it , old habits from mw2. It's why I'll never go flawless , I'm just not good at it.

Concentrating when I make Sniper shots has really helped me, just relax before you set up the shot see if it helps.

One Bump for later please

It would be nice to have a more summarized video of your tips.
