I Stopped Paying for Netflix and Now I Can't Watch Movies, RIPOFF!

So I've paid for Netflix for an entire year! I've invested so much time into Orange is the New Black and House of Cards, I even grinded every episode of Friends last month! Now, I log in today and all of it is gone! I can't even watch movies that I have been able to watch for a full year! I don't get it. I've been a loyal customer for a year, and just because I stopped paying, I get locked out of content. Well I wont be giving them my business anymore, scammers.
Do you get it now?
EDIT 1: I seem to be getting a lot of similar replies, usually directed at claiming Destiny is not a "subscription" service and that we the players "own" the game. I'm sorry boys and girls, we do not own anything. We paid for a liscence to access Destiny's content; content which is subject to change or even be removed for those who don't update their liscence. This was all outlined in the EULA you blindly accepted a year ago. EDIT 2: "LIMITED USE LICENSE: Bungie grants you the non-exclusive, personal, non-transferable, limited right and license to install and use one copy of this Program solely for your non-commercial use. All rights not specifically granted are reserved by Bungie. The Program is licensed, not sold, for your use. Your license confers no title or ownership in this Program, and should not be construed as a sale of any rights in this Program." EDIT 3: Jesus this is still going, this is fantastic. It looks like the verdict is roughly about 50/50 on people agreeing with me, or calling me some derivative of the word retard. To each their own I guess. I'd hope you guys get this worked up when Norton Antivirus tries to charge you for updates, and then removes features when you don't pay. Because, you know, you bought a disk, so you're clearly entitled.

  • The Dark Below: I could still Lv up, play daily crucible, get new items, and play some weekly strikes. House of Wolves: I could still Lv up, play daily crucible, get new items, and play some weekly strikes. The Taken King: Lv up? Nope. Daily crucible? Nope. Can I buy some new items? Nope. Alright, then I'll try some new crucible. "You can't do the daily and you can only play 1/3 of it." Are you f@#%ing serious? I might as well sell the game but I don't know if Bungievision is gonna change it again.

    • I don't know about Norton, have not used it for at least 20 years because it seemed too resource hungry. I use ESET Nod32, pay for a two or three year license and get precisely what was promised when ESET made their offer to me for the period described. They have never within months of my purchase locked me out of any of the features of what I originally purchased - unless I paid them more money for a new and enhanced version of their product. Bungie/Activision do not specify a time period for which you should expect to enjoy all of the content you have purchased. In the absence of such a specification the duration should be "reasonable". In my case, Bungie/Activision defined reasonable as five months for the vanilla, two months for the Dark Below and less than one month for House of Wolves. Fortunately both Amazon and Microsoft have agreed with me that the durations were not reasonable and to refund me in full for for my purchases. They, no doubt, will substract those refunds from their payments to Bungie/Activision. My chat with the Microsoft Manager was interesting, he was very interested in my account of what Bungie/Activision had done. I felt afterwards there was a clear knowledge at Microsoft that Bungie/Activision have created a problem for them. Amazon refunded immediately; initial operator at Microsoft was clueless and I had to ask to chat to a manager. To be honest, my friends and I were going to continue playing, especially Dark Below and House of Wolves for a few months before purchasing Taken King. But when we realised we were locked out of playing missions/strikes on a higher level and that it was impossible to go beyond 34 without TTK, we decided it was time to get off this hamster wheel.

        • I get its a license of use and not actually buying anything. I also get the lawyers wrote a very good disclaimer (EULA). However there is a concept called Past Practice. Despite what they in the "contract" say they can do, its what they have done that can be the legal issue (not that I'm say in a law suit would be valid or necessary). In the past games generally only updated to fix glitches, not to re-write the entire gameplay; to add to or, in this case, take away game modes. In the past this took the form of a new game in the series. IE:Destiny 2. People still think they have the same game when in reality its Destiny 2. Its clear that by not buying TTK players will have a reduced game experience. This cannot be denied. In my case having purchased the "licenses" to play TTK I have been feeling a reduced satisfaction due to the fact I've been thus far locked out of higher level strikes that I enjoyed just 2 weeks ago. Yes Bungie is free to change their game in any way they choose and we as consumers have the choice of not buying future Bungie titles. The Bungie name has been tarnished and I don't think they care.

          • I bought A Link To The Past when it first come out. I stopped paying £40 the second I bought it. And they haven't locked me out of content? OP, better call Shigsy, tell him your story of how you stopped paying for Netflix so he can fix this. On another note, here's how you brain: Destiny is no longer available. The game you bought a year ago, (albeit frustratingly) no longer exists. What you now own (sans The Taken King) is essentially a platform for a new game to use. Without this, The Taken King will not work, but without the The Taken King, Destiny will not work as anything more than a foundation. This is because the servers are no longer for Destiny. They are for Destiny: The Taken King. They however, cannot permanently lock original content as new players will not know the original story, and we still require the original content for new content to work. They have, however, locked what they can (original weapons, random events such as the Blades of Crota and the Pack of Wolves) as these aren't anything to do with The Taken King. Simply as possible put, Destiny is done, it's over, it's like The Matrix Online. They no longer support an old game. They now only support a new game, using the old Destiny servers for Destiny: The Taken King. In a year, this will happen again with Destiny: Insert Title Here. This will happen again, and again for the next 9 years. And we will have to pay up to £80 a year, which broken down monthly can be assumed as the average subscription fee. Now, a way to get around this is to wait until Year 10 and get it all at a very low price (and miss out on all the previous content that they can, and WILL, lock out) or pay this pseudo-subscription fee. And you, know as long as this method works, they'll just keep throwing DLC on top of what we already own instead of releasing a new game (Destiny 2) which is not dependant on previous software being installed and will run on servers alongside Destiny: The Taken King instead of ending up a 300GB game using the same servers as it's previous iteration, locking outdated content ads they go. Now, I bet Netflix doesn't do that. Netflix will run content forever until THEIR licences on content run out and can no longer show it. Oh, and I suggest you pay your Netflix subscription or start pirating stuff.

            • Your edit 2 shows you lack legal training or understanding of copyright law. That clause in no way equates to a service of any kind let alone a subscription service.

                  • You -blam!-ing desticle. If Bungie were more upfront about their shady business, then maybe people wouldn't complain so much. This was a terrible comparison, but not the worst I've seen. Nice try though, you're not convincing anyone to throw money at the screen.

                    • Buying a game is not the same as paying for a streaming subscription service. Destiny is not a subscription-based game. EULA or not, scummy business practices are scummy business practices. If you don't see that, well then there's no hope for you. Carry on, Desticle.

sounds like you cant tell the difference from your ass and a hole in the ground. im not streaming destiny. I bought a physical disc. so it isn't like watching your favorite show on Netflix. its more like you bought the dvd box set of season 1 but you cant watch it anymore because they locked all of season 1s episodes until you buy the season 2 boxset. I didn't buy taken king. so I cant complain that I don't get to play any new content. but I shouldn't be left with an empty game with all content locked behind yet another pay wall.
