Why do I feel like I've been given a huge middle finger..

I can't seem to find the exact quote by one of the bungie Shepard's who said back pre TDB, that they were working on a system to make sure that all the exotics that your get/earn/buy (whatever your term is) would not be left behind during any dlc/expansion. However that being said it seems like they are going back on their original stance, I fully understand that sometimes things change, their vision on the game and what not. Its just extremely disappointing to chase after a particular weapon for the better part of a year, only to get it with less than a month to really enjoy it before it becomes a poor choice to use, in almost any new situations. This isn't referring to any legendary gear, I'm all for not using those and chasing after new ones. But exotics set the bar to a different level, and to hand pick a select few, to allow us to continue using seems like the biggest and hardest middle finger you could possibly give some one. Now I've read things like "it will still do the same, your damage is just an average now based off ALL your gear..." That's fine and all, but why should I make myself weaker because I like using a particular weapon that's getting left behind? And if I use weaker weapons, my light lvl is lower and I get locked out of (insert random event here) because I don't meet the light requirement. Most of these changes look interesting but it feels like your taking the lazy way out when YOU said originally that exotics are not going to be left behind.
