Star Wars Prequels
What does the Flood think of the Star Wars prequel trilogy?
The prequels get a lot of hate, primarily by fans of the original trilogy. The whole situation kinda reminds me of Halo: Bungie's Halo (the OT) focussed on the atmosphere and storytelling and is praised by fans, whereas 343's Halo (the prequels) focus on lore, character expansion and are bashed by fans.
Edit: I've found many more positive attitudes than I expected. I guess all the prequel hate is just a bandwagon people like to jump on without formulating their own ideas and opinions.

Most of the lightsaber fights in the new ones are ridiculous and the non-action parts are just boring. (In my opinion)

1 ReplyI actually like your analysis of story vs. lore. I sort of had the same thought, but never really knew how to explain it. Honestly, I think the main over arching concepts are great, it's one of Lucas' strong points. However, the actual story and many of the characters were bad. I think the reason they turned out so "bad" was because nobody was around who had the balls to tell Lucas "no." With the original trilogy, Lucas had several veteran film makers who guided him along and told him when an idea was good or bad. With the prequels, he was seen as the veteran, and his name - obviously - was on the previous films so people trusted him more and thought he was making good calls/knew 100% what he was doing. Like Bungie, Lucas was great at world building. They can come up with great broad concepts, it's just some details for story telling they could improve on. The main things that got in the way of the prequels for me were: - Jar Jar - self-explanatory - Anakin - terrible, terrible casting that completely ruined the character's potential - Darth Maul and/or Count Dooku - unnecessary villain(s), they should have stuck with one or the other (preferably Dooku) - Grievous - for a general and someone who was portrayed as a badass in the Clone Wars miniseries, he was a complete coward and wimp - forced love story

I like the prequels. It's quite interesting because the republic became an empire about the same way that the Roman Republic became an empire

No its because I'm so in love with you! WHOOPEY!!!! Now this is podracing! Obi-Wan Kenobi being completely useless and unlikeable in the first prequel

Edited by Demagogue: 8/3/2015 9:04:01 PMThe Phantom Menace didn't even need to exist. Completely pointless. Attack of the Clones has too much terrible, cringey romance. Revenge of the Sith's plot isn't much better than the previous two (so bad), but at least it has good action.

Two was well done good groundwork set 3 was well done but quite different from he rest and 1 was just poorly done. I just consider those three to have such different styles they weren't well planned together.

Vote for ok. Ep 1 had interesting plot lines (laying groundwork for palpatines rise) that was completely undone by jar jar and some terrible attempt to explain the force as mitoclorians or whatever the hell they called them. The prequel trilogy got better over time, though I must say the collapse of anakin to vader felt rushed. I know they tried to build it up over all 3 movies but in the end it seemed like a rapid jump from unsure about light/dark to murdering younglings.

1 ReplyAlso, the prequels IMO had a far better soundtrack. There is Duel of the Fates, Battle of the Heroes, Across the Stars, Anakin vs Obi Wan, Bounty Hunter's Pursuit, Enter Lord Vader, Anakin's Dark Deeds, Grievous Speaks to Lord Sidious, and Anakin's Betrayal.

Fun as a kids film and a serious dose of nostalgia for me (it was one of the first films I saw at the cinema, plus it reminds me of the video game which is to this day one of my favourite games of all time.) 2 is atrocious. Anyone who says 2 is better than 1 is objectively wrong and deserves to be shot. The bits on Kamino and Geonosis are kinda cool though. 3 is alright. Best of the 3 in terms of story and general un-suckiness.

Ep 2: Genosis battle good, love story bad, bad, so very bad, awful, bad. Yoda backflip lightsaber fighting bad. Ep 3: "NoooOOOoooOoo" bad, funny, but bad. Lightsaber duel kinda meh. Order 66 okay. What happened to orders 1 through 65?

Ep 1 was, in my opinion, the worst. It didn't suck, it just was a dissapointment. Still, Darth Maul was cool, and it needed to be there. Ep 2 was better, with the cool fighting scenes and such. For example, the Jedi Battle. And Count Dooku's fight. Ep 3 is the best in the whole series. Epic fights, great realizations and how it all ties together.

Ep1 was whatever. jar jar sucked, darth maul was good, padme was hot, qui gon was good, obi Wan was better, and pod racing gets too much hate. EP2 was iffy. Less jar jar was good, duku was alright, padme was still hot, love scenes were terrible, anikan was good, obi Wan was better, the arena scene was sweet, the start of the clone wars was interesting, and Yoda vs duku gets too much hate. Ep3 was great. Palpatine was a bad ass, clones were awesome, wookies were awesome, padme was pregnant and still hot, anikan's spiral to the dark side was great, anikan was great, so was obi wan, mace windu dying was bad, and the final Saber battle was epic.
