Remember when you first got the stranger's rifle? It was exciting, wasn't it? For some players, it was their first rare weapon.
Where is yours now? Probably dismantled, forgotten amongst your pile of exotics.
What if there was a way for items like that to remain relevant?
As it stands now, once you get a full set of legendary gear, any engram that isn't purple may as well be dropping weapon parts. There should be a way to take those commons and raise them up into usefulness.
We've already seen Xur sell us Sparrow upgrades, and reforging is a wonderful solution towards making nearly all legendary items useful, so why not take it a step further?
Have the gunsmith sell items that upgrade commons to uncommons, uncommons to rares, and rates to legendaries. Ideally, these should also offer some control over the upgraded form of the weapon.
Either have them grant specific perks or offer them up in some form that gives the player a sense that they are crafting this item themselves.
Offer up incentives in these upgrade packages, such as rare or exclusive perks or the potential to create a legendary with an exotic feel. Combined with reforging, the possibilities are endless!
Make me excited over blue engrams again
