FanFiction, "The Lights Shadow" Prologue

Prologue: Voidwalker As I awoke from my meditation, I felt a new sense of inner peace. A feeling long lost after the many strikes and crucible tournaments. Today was my one day off, a time to relax and give my muscles a rest after six full days of exertion. It has been so long since I have had a hot meal and warm shower, I almost thought the ash from the Hive would never go away. I stood up and stretched my muscles, yawned, and looked at my clock to see how much time has passed during my meditation. I was going to be late for my date at the coffee shop! I quickly started heading to my closet. As I open it, the first thing I see is my armor hanging up. A nice set of Nerigal Savant III, vanguard model. In the other side of my closet I spot my one set of regular clothes. Faded jeans, white undershirt, and a nice dark green jacket with the warlock emblem sewn into the back, and a bright white and silver bond with my own insignia engraved into it. A spiral of curves all sinking to a singularity. Lastly, I put on my black boots and step into the hallway. I see other guardians walking to and fro in the hallways as well. Most dressed in armor, but some in clothing like myself. As I start to walk down the halls, I say hello to all my neighbors. It was a major shock to start living in the Tower. My first sight of an Awoken was a thing to behold, I just stood there with my jaw completely open as she walked by me laughing. Let me tell you though, I have never seen anything so beautiful. The Exos too, I never thought that AI’s would ever exist and yet there they are. walking, talking, laughing, crying, just like me. I finally make it out of the housing quarters in the Tower and enter the elevator to leave the tower. Not many guardians ever choose to leave the tower regularly, but I like to escape the whole, “Darkness is coming!” once in a while. As the elevator descends, I look at my hand and create a little void vortex in my palm. The swirling purple light, fading in and out of existence by my own will. Sometimes I wonder if I am something more than human. I know I am human but when do humans possess powers thought to be held by gods? The ding of the elevator hitting the lobby floor jolts me back into attention, and I quickly extinguish the vortex in my hand. I walk out into the lobby and sign out of the Tower, saying that I am going for some R&R on my day off. I walk onto the street below and start heading down my regular path. I see many familiar shop owner faces as I go, some see me and we exchange smiles as I walk past. I am super excited to go see a very close friend of mine, Firosa. She had to almost beg to get the same day off as me just so we could have free time together. We go to get coffee every thursday morning, we then talk about our missions for the week, how we did in the crucible, and what silly things our Ghosts did. My ghost is quite a bland one. He is always so monotone and straightforward. He never seems to understand why I want to go meet with this girl. It’s always, “Why aren’t you helping the Vanguard, why aren’t you training in the Crucible, blah, blah, blah.” Though, he does have a great sense of sarcasm at times, makes it all worth it in the end for him to make fun of me for every wrong word I say to Firosa. As soon make it to the coffee shop, and see Firosa already sitting down at our regular spot. As I walk in I quickly see her smile and say, “What took you so long? You always seem to beat me here.” She says with a wink. “Oh, I got carried away in thought this morning. I really love being a scholar in this new age. We have access to such wonderful new technology… and lets face it, space magic is pretty amazing.” I say. She laughs and quickly spouts back, “Oh trust me Conner, I have seen a lot of your space magic, and it is no where as cool as you think it is. You should see my skills. I make it a true work of art.” She then snaps and sends a tiny sparks of fire in the shape of an butterfly to fly around my head. I smile as I try to look at the little creature fluttering around me, but it always seems to barely escape the full view of my vision. Firosa then hands my favorite drink from the place, white chocolate and caramel latte. It tastes very sweet and I almost scald my tongue from the heat. We quickly continue our conversation by talking about our new training in our abilities. She often would, during the conversation, send out little sparks to attract my attention and make me lose my train of thought. We sit in the coffee shop for another hour, and decide that we must say goodbye for now. Even though it is our day off, as guardians, we have a lot that must get done for work still. I give Firosa a hug and start walking back to the tower. Firosa had to, unfortunately, do other activities out of the Tower so she couldn’t walk back with me. The second Firosa is gone, my ghost comes appears above me and says, “There goes another two hours to never get back, you should really pay more attention to the time and not the fire floating around your head.” I quickly mumble under my breathe a rude comment, and say “Maybe you should learn what it means to have a life?” My ghost replied, “Have a life, I gave you life. So I have your life, now stop wasting my life.” I say, “Back to this again. Yes you gave me life, yes, I owe you, but I am human and I can’t go on forever without a little bit of me time. Besides, I do so much better in the crucible after I have my weekly talk with Firosa. You have seen that for yourself.” My ghost says, “Fine, that is true, but crucible is training. Not real combat. You may be a warlock, but that doesn’t mean to don’t have to fight like the titans do.” “Yeah, yeah.” I mutter back, “Speaking of fighting, what is our schedule for the day?” “Mostly study and lab work, It is your day off but your experiments must be done.” My ghost said. I yawn again and reply, “Yupp, suppose I better get back to work on them. You would think that we would have fully fleshed out the study of the Void by now, but there always seems to be more ways of using the void light. Armor, bullets, explosives. just seems so never ending.” My ghost then disappears as we make it back to the Tower. I sign back in and go into the Lab wing of the tower. There are many other huddle warlocks over lab tables, shaping and molding the Void into any shape or object they desire. I go to my station and start to do my paperwork for what I used over the week in terms of bullets, synths, and glimmer. I then tally in how much materials I collected. Once this is done, I pull out my lab equipment and start to create a small Void vortex inside a little glass device. This device allows the vortex to sustain itself without energy draining from me. I then start to shape the void into as many different materials as possible. Marking down which way the Void is shaped held it’s shape the longest. A longer lasting void shield is a better void shield after all. After many hours of trial and error, I log my last bit of info into the computer and head into the cafeteria of the Tower. I grab a quick dinner and head back to my living quarters. I lay down into my bed and shut off the lights, tomorrow is training day, which means full 12 hours of crucible. I raise my hand and create a little void ball in my palm, I then send it to slowly bounce across my room. Its slow, gentle movement. Soft purple light in my dark room. Something about the Void seems so calming. My eyelids quickly go heavy, and I drift into sleep with dreams of the void and Firosa. Next Chapter: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/140639925
