Destiny Experts Wanted: Let Me Ask You Anything

So, I've been playing Destiny for about 4 months now and it is totally different from any of the games I am used to playing (i.e., GTA and InFamous). I'm absolutely in love with this game and I want to become better at playing it, but I may need a little super good advice. I'm quite the Google queen, but haven't really been able to find answers to some of the questions I have. I would greatly and humbly be appreciative if any of you could take some time and answer some of my questions. My objective is to become THAT Destiny player that you know when I show up I will add value to your raid or nightfall and not be a dead weight. I also have a goal of helping out AT LEAST 10 new players with their progression in Destiny (whether through raids, nightfalls, etc.) before The Taken King arrives. Keeping my objective in mind, please consider my questions. 1. What is the best route to becoming really good at A) swordbearer in Crota B) Relic holder during the Atheon fight? I've watched videos (esp. DattodoesDestiny) and have the basic understanding of the mechanics (beat Crota on Normal and have done relic for Templar), but I'm one of those people that have to do something roughly 5-10 times before I become confident about doing it. Since I can't really solo Vog, in particular;and most players just want to get it over and done, how can I gain the type of experience I need? 2. How to survive on a Warlock? The Warlock is my favorite, but I've been noticing that I die way too much using my Warlock. Is it a subclass setting or armor specs issue; or am I just not making the proper decisions in regards to positioning and movement? I mean in PvE situations like PoE, I've sometimes died over 20 times. I can't see how my friends still want to play with me in those situations. This only happens on my Warlock, my Titan and Hunter seem to be invincible. 3. This is going to be more of an opinion piece from you, but what is the best way to deal with weapons and vault space? My friends complain I take too long to change characters and they are right. I'm trying to hold on to all exotic weapons, raid weapons, iron banner weapons, but I'm finding during nightfalls I have to waste extra time to get my 365 weapons from the vault either via the app or at the tower. 4. I've been carried through Skolas one time. Is it possible to get PoE 35 down to one hour for the entire process? I've checked YouTube, but most videos are more about how to burn Skolas down in less than one minute. I would like to be able to do PoE 35 once a week on each of my characters, but so far doing it with the people I know, just the rounds leading up to Skolas seem to be taking hours. 5. Pvp: I have a slow reaction time and although I have a strategic mind, I'm finding it difficult to come up with ways to compensate for my slow reaction time. This could be old age setting in, because I'm quite up there in years;however, I believe that I'm capable of improving it, but Destiny's pvp is nothing like that of GTA. I want to get better at pvp so that I can start doing Trials of Osiris. I have learned a few things from watching EnragedCinema's videos. If you've found a way to overcome slow reaction/reflexes, I would be grateful to hear how you were able to do so. Sorry for being long-winded, but these things have been on my mind lately and I didn't have anyone to turn to for this advice. Perhaps others could come here also to ask things they may have been afraid to ask also.

  • Everything comes with practice. PvP will always be a hellacious experience, but getting to know the maps is your strongest avenue of improvement, barring winding yourself up on caffeine for crucible binges. Relic? Use it. Get comfortable with good locations to establish a cleanse bubble and kill harpies with it to speed up super recharge. Skolas? Familiarize yourself with routes of escape in a pinch from secure stations where you might post up to manage mobs. Clockwise circle is popular; practice managing the devouring essence between yourself and your team, establish an order for handing off the essence. Get proficient with different weapons. Hand cannons are your best friends in PvE with elemental burns. Shotguns are great for kamikaze takedowns on important targets in the prison. Snipers are great for safe-range DPS, not just mob management. Machine guns are strong crowd control, rockets are great for DPS. Stretch those uses. How can you DPS with a hand cannon, clear mobs with a rocket launcher, and defend an area with just a shotgun? Get inventive. It comes naturally if you give yourself the slack to fill the roles your own way. Warlocks are pretty squishy, so don't be afraid to dash headlong into a target for that scorch flame shield to give you the extra slack to regroup. PvE, anyways. Do not use this strat in PvP. The flame shield won't be perfect, but it will save your life. Also, consider using the ram helmet with voidwalker. It's almost unfair in PvE. A lot more will come with experience and practice in unusual situations, and everybody has different has different experiences and ideas.
