Official Guide to Skolas (part 1)

This post breaks down only loadout suggestions. The fight breakdown is in this post.... https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/135408587/0/0 Hey guys, so I know a lot of you are still having troubles beating Skolas. This guide is for you, and any new guys who are looking to tackle him for the first time. I've beaten him legit both pre-patch and post patch, and this is the strategy that I've been using, and it works really well for me. I'll break this down into a sections of suggestion perk/weapon loadouts, as well as the different sections of mechanics during the fight. You can skip through whichever sections you like and find the info you need. If anyone has their own strategic options to offer, feel free! This is to help people struggling beat this, so a variety of opinions is welcome. Bumps are also appreciated! First off, this fight is not to be taken lightly. It requires each player to carry their own weight, and constant and thorough communication. It is by far the most difficult fight in the game thus far. Prerequisites:
Level 34 Mic To be completely honest, I don't let anyone on my team who doesn't meet these prerequisites. Not because it's impossible, but it's just not worth it. It's not hard to hit 34, and your console comes with a mic, so these expectations are reasonable. Too much communication is required for even one person to not have a mic.
Strong suggestions:
Gjallarhorn(s) Titan(s) Arc primary Crest of Alpha Lupi/Light Beyond Nemesis Fallen PoE Armor Treasure key Basically, if it possible for you to use any of these, you need to do it. If you don't have Gally, obviously you can still do it, but you may have trouble finding a spot on a team, and having it definitely helps. Same with the Titans for their bubbles. Alpha Lupi and Nemesis exotics will help your team spawn more orbs, and make revives much easier. The bubbles cannot be overvalued in this fight. You get exclusive level 35 drops from the big chest (ship, shader, emblem) so definitely try to have one on you for this one.
Suggested character loadouts:
Warlock: Sunsinger - self res, flame shield, Viking funeral. If you're not using self res for this, you're doing it wrong. During the poison swap, having a warlock with self res can be very comforting. It will eliminate wipes due to bad luck, since you get a freebie now and then. Hunter: Bladedancer - vanish, escape artist, stalker, shadow jack Invisibility during this encounter is invaluable, especially during the mine section. The middle mine spawn can be especially tricky and invisibility makes it a cake walk. You want to be able to turn invisible in as many ways as possible, for as long as possible, which is why i suggest these perks. Titan: Defender - gift of light, gift of the void, iron harvest, blessing/armor of light Gift of light, gift of the void, and iron harvest turns you into an orb farm. Place your bubble where it will take as much damage as possible to best utilize the gift of the void perk. I suggest blessings or armor of light instead of weapons of light. You want to take this fight slower and methodical so dealing extra damage isn't nearly as useful as having an extra over shield. If lightswitch is on, use armor of light, as that is the only way to survive a melee hit from an ambushing captain. Saving yourself from wipes is of utmost importance. If you're running with 2 Titans, you should have enough orbs to take turns throwing a bubble in the same stop, and thereby maintaining a constant bubble for your team. I strongly advise not using voidwalker, gunslinger, or striker, simply because invisibility, self-res, and Titan bubbles are all way too valuable to the team to ignore. If you insist on using one of these subclasses, that's up to you, but you will have a harder time.
Weapon loadouts:
Primaries: Honestly, just use what you're most comfortable with, but an arc damage primary really helps a ton. Fang of Ir Yût, Fatebringer, Oversoul Edict, Praedyths timepiece, etc. are great options. Specials: Snipers and Shottys. Anyone with a sniper should be using something high impact, and will focus mainly on damaging Skolas. At least one person should run with a shotgun to take care of any ambushing captains. Found verdict is awesome for taking them out, but really any arc shotgun will do. Heavies: If you have Gjallarhorn, use it. Otherwise, your best rocket launcher will be just fine. Hunger of Crota, Truth, Dragons Breath, are all good options. Thunderlord is actually an incredibly useful here, because as well as dealing lots of damage to Skolas, you can use it to take care of ads (namely, captains).
