Birth of a Pheonix

I woke with a start and checked my head. There was no hole there, but there really should have been. You don't blow your brains out, and NOT have one. But I was alive. Or was I? This couldn't be a dream, dead people don't dream. Maybe this is heaven, but then heaven can't look like this. So this must be earth. Maybe God has granted me a second chance. But the world looked... different. This was not the city I once knew. Where was the giant "jungle" of steel I once knew? The many skyscrapers and the bustling business of the famous "City that never sleeps"? My hometown of New York City seemed pretty dormant now. All I could see was rusty metal beams protruding from the ground and piles of old concrete and rubble, the old taxi cabs parked in the street that were trademark of New York. It has to be New York, I could clearly see the skeleton of the Empire State Building reaching out to the sky, yet it seemed broken, almost dead. "Why am I here, I should be dead, more importantly, how am I here" I thought to myself. Only then did I look up and see- I backed off. Some sort of metallic orb in the air! It was scanning me, I reached out to grab it but it flinched away. "Not so hasty Guardian." It could speak, was it some sort of A.I., a robot. "What are you?" I asked the orb. "You've been dead a very long time, there's lots to explain and not time to explain it right now. For the time being, call me Ghost." Ghost, that's an odd name for a machine. "We need to call in a dropship. The hive cannot be allowed to get you." What's a Hive? "Where do we find a damned dropship in New York?" I questioned aloud. The Ghost replied with, "there's an old shipyard not far from here, we can make our way there on foot, hold on a second." The Ghost disappeared. "I'm still here" came a voice from inside my head. "I don't like voices inside my head" I said aloud "Don't speak aloud, I can hear your thoughts, talk to me inside your head, if the Hive hear us we will die a very painful death" the Ghost explained. "Where do we need to go?" I thought. "The shipyard is only a little bit to the north, near the Empire State buildings ruins." The Ghost replied. And so I headed towards the building, it wasn't far, only about a block away. I knew where I was going, I had walked these streets many times before. I was turning the corner of the street the skyscraper was located on. "Tell me about yourself." The Ghost requested. "I don't like sharing" I said exasperated. "I brought you back from the dead, I think I deserve to know a little bit about you." he said. "Im 15, I like being alone and I don't like telling people about myself." I thought, it sounded harsh, and I know that I should probably be nicer to someone that brought me back from the grave, but it was true. I like being alone, I've always been alone. Ever since my mom died and my dad left me and my sisters alone. I took care of them, until the orphanage took them away. They tried to take me too, but I ran. Ever since then I've been alone. "You do understand I can read your thoughts, I'm sorry for your losses, what's your name?" the Ghost asked sadly. "Don't pity me Ghost, I'm Chris." I thought to him. "We're almost there Chris but something is lighting up my sensors, we need to hurry" he said as I began to run, I could see the shipyard, I was almost there when I felt something cold breathing down my neck. I turned just in time to see a figure made of bone as it swung a giant sword down at me. "A KNIGHT" the Ghost yelled inside my head. "RUN" he proceeded to yell. But I didn't run, I don't know what came over me, but for some reason instead of dodging and diving out of the way I had an urge to thrust my hand up at the figure of bone. I think I surprised myself more than I surprised the Knight as a wave of white hot flame shot out of my palm at the Knight's nightmarish face. "A Sunsinger" the Ghost gasped as I watched the Knight's face burn into ash. "How?" Was all I can think as the Ghost reappeared into existence. "Not now, we need to find a jumpship and get you out before more of them find us." He explained as he started scanning the piles of rubble and scrapmetal. "Here" I looked over and witnessed as a giant ship rose from the ground. "We need to get you to the city, climb in" as he opened the pilots hatch and I climbed in. "I hope you can fly this thing" I told the Ghost. "Oh I can do more than fly it" Character Limit: Continued Below

the ship rose and boosted off at what seemed like hundreds of miles per hour into low orbit. "How long have I been dead, and what's a Sunsinger?" I interrogated the Ghost once again. "The Traveler can answer those questions soon Guardian, prepare to land, we're at the Tower" he replied. I looked out the window into the clouds and saw, well, a tower. We flew closer and landed in what I assumed to be a loading bay for Jumpships. "What now" I said. "Your journey doesn't end here Chris, there's lots more to come, there are plenty more trails to come. Now get out, there lots to talk about" he told me as he rematerialized and began to hover away. "Follow me" we stepped out of the hangar and onto a giant outdoor balcony type surface, this must be the top of the tower. I looked around and witnessed a dozen or so people armed to the teeth with weapons and armor, some of the were slim and dressed in tighter and lighter fitting armor and cloaks with Snipers slung across their back and knives on their hips, they seemed to be debating about something. Others were wearing what looked like robes and were tinkering with some energy rifle, the last group, huge warriors decked out in huge armor and heavy machine guns, these guys look like tanks, definitely wouldn't want to pick a fight with them. If anything I noticed that they were mostly adults, the only person my age was watching the people fighting with the knives, and boy was she pretty, ive never had a girlfriend before, all the girls back in the big apple thought I was a freak, but this one, she was worth breaking my heart over, I like her smile, and her eyes, she must be lonely being the only girl her age. The Ghost must've caught me staring because he said. "That's enough staring hot shot you're starting to drool, there's time for eye candy and flirting later. You have an appointment with the speaker." We approached a door and I opened it and walked in. the first thing that caught my eye was a huge contraption of some sort but then a Robed man with a mask turned around to say "Greetings guardian, I know you must have questions and I will do my best to answer them" he said as he pointed out the window to a giant white orb in the sky "this, is the traveler, or rather he was, long ago he brought us a golden age of science and exploration, we were no longer restricted to the Planet Terra or Earth. We colonized Earths sisters, Mars and Venus as well as Jupiter's moons and even made towns on Mercury. We had a golden age, but even the Travelers light couldn't keep the darkness away forever, they found us and the ancient minions of the darkness arose to slay us, we created Exos and giant computerized military systems called Warminds to fight the minions trained brave men to go into battle but we fell under the weight of the Darkness, in the collapse we lost our Warminds, our Exos, under the hellfire and destruction some humans were deformed and mutated into an alien race now known as the Awoken. They eventually pushed us all the way back to Earth and made an assault on the Traveler, rather than run or abandon humanity the Traveler sacrificed itself to save us all, but in its final breath it created the Ghosts to search for souls that could wield its light as a weapon to push back the Darkness and save us all... Guardians. There are six well known skillsets that the guardians possess, The Hunters are very lightweight and prefer to work in stealth and possess two very unique skillsets, Gunslingers, they live by the Gun and they are known for being extremely Precise with weapons such as Hand Cannons and Snipers. Then there are Bladedancers, masters of stealth and the go to assassins if you want a target eliminated, they have a lust for gutting anyone who gets in their way, unless you want to wake up with a knife in your gut, don't cross a Bladedancer. Titans, the one man army, known for taking down Legions with their legendary Fist of Havoc, if you want to take out an army, hire a Striker, their motto, a fist is better than any gun, they could knock out a god with a single swipe and not break a sweat, on the other hand there are Defenders, nothing penetrates their Ward of Dawn, known for protecting us from extinction at Twilight Gap and The Battle of the six Fronts, if they're protecting something, nothing will get through. Last but certainly not least are the brains of the light, warlocks, known to cast exploding stars at their enemies are Voidwalkers, they are one with the void, able to rip through reality and cast a supernova out of their bare hands. Then there are Sunsingers. You, Chris are a Guardian, a Sunsinger according to your Ghost, Sunsingers are very powerful and intelligent, they're know for becoming beings of fire and casting it from themselves like a Chaotic Dwarf star, the most powerful Sunsingers possess the ability to bring themselves back from death like the Phoenix of ancient legend. You're very powerful Guardian, I can see the light behind your eyes, but I can also see the darkness in your mind, tread carefully Chris, more than a few Guardians have been tempted to turn to the darkness. We need you on our side, the light tells me you will do many great things for Humanity, Awoken and Exos alike" "Now, Ghost take him down to see Ikora and have her assigns him to a Training group and alert the other Warlocks of his unusual abilities, I will see you around Guardian."
