Truly to serve, one must fight in a war. Not go in the military, and just train, and visit distinct locations, like it's a business trip.

You gave us your opinion, and the fact is that your opinion is B.S. A vet is no different if they gave up 2yrs as a cook or infantryman in time of war or peace, or a whole 20yrs or more as a tank mechanic or warrant officer, in times of war or peace. Maybe you did some time, but hey this is the internet....

Oh, besides the eight years I served, my dad did 20, and my little brother did 3 before he was killed in Mamoudija Iraq, how much have you and your family served if you want to turn this into a pissing contest?

And show me a person in the last 14 years in the military that is not risking their lives just wearing the uniform? I know I'm lucky to be out now and I worry about friends still in all the time. Any attack on veterans based on a non-veteran will inevitably piss off every veteran. I work daily with the military now and have been as a soldier or contractor since 1997. Most vets deserve respect and dont need to feel an ounce of shame no matter their role. And dont worry, O have deployed so I'm not defending any self-perceives inadequacies. Taji, Iraq 2007. To clarify, Are you referring to cookie as the OP? (In my opinion no way slagged off vets) or iputtie? (Who made the idiotic claim that to be a vet you have to fight, or I read:kill someone, either way that's not the measure of being a veteran). or me, who was just making the point that if you serve in the military, no matter the role, and no matter the status of peacetime or wartime, you are a vet.
