The only thing they would need to change for me to use NLB is when you run out of ammo the animation is silly. After you fire your last bullet you cycle the round, pause for a second as if to think what to do next, then reload and cycle it again. Someone explained to me in another thread with bolt action rifles, you don't have to cycle it after the last bullet is shot, so that would speed up the delay. Also, the pause doesn't need to be there, kindergartners can count to 6, so I don't know why my guardian can't count to 6 in his head and know when he's only got 1 shot left. TL;DR: The time between firing your last round and firing the first round of the next clip is much too long.
