How to use Sniper Rifle in Crucible

I am very new to gaming (modern gaming anyways). In the first 4-6 weeks of playing destiny I couldn't break 500 points in Crucible. I worked at it and eventually could top the charts... since reduced to middle ranking in IB. Recently I thought I would expand my skills by learning to be a Sniper, but I don't get how to do it in Destiny. 1) I find that I settle into a spot and end up getting killed by someone with a euros regime or other high powered non-sniper gun... whats the point of a sniper rifle if the other guns have the same range without losing mobility or sight? Am I doing something wrong here? An example would be sniping by C facing B on Venus map (maat mons I think its called). 2) it seems like there are not many snipe points, so if I try to hunker down, I get maybe two kills until I am hunted down. Tips? Tricks?

  • Some tips for you (All I use half the game is a sniper, sometimes the whole game). If you can pre-aim towards an area and learn where the head height is of spots, keep it there and wait for them. Never stay scoped in, Scope in for a second, scope out (while quickly looking at your radar the scope in quickly). If a sniper aims at you, a good way to snipe when you're starting it is to use your strafe (walk left or right, while scoped in) to get your aim on their head and pull the trigger as it swipes over them. Eventually you can start teaching yourself to flick your thumbstick to get quick snipes off and feel like a bad ass, follow the beginner technique and occasionally try flick sniping. Eventually you'll start getting kills and will eventually flick snipe 90% of the time. You want an Ambush scope on your sniper, its definitely the best. Short scope is great too but a little harder to use. As snipers one shot to the head or two shot to the body, you want a sniper that has a high rate of fire, low impact and a low recoil. I use Praedyth's Revenge and just switched to a Prudence II. Ice Breaker is a no no, high recoil makes getting a second body shot if you miss the head harder and it scopes in too far to be as effective as an ambush scope. Practice in PVE aswell, keep out your Ice Breaker and try to headshot as many monsters (vandals, dregs, everything) as quickly as you can, even through the intense recoil, this is a great way to start teaching you snapshotting. Also, for PVP more ammo is good, 4 - 6 bullets.
