So I've been saving my engrams and vendor packages for how as I have nothing left to do, but I'm being told by numerous people that if I decrypt anything I've earned in tdb that they won't decrypt in to gear with higher light armour or higher damage weapons.
So my question is, is this true? If so please can I see you're source of info?
Many thanks

You will not get new year out of the saved engrams however you should still save them and after the release use them to power level the cryptarch and receive packages
-
No because it will know when u got the engram and package and will only give you the stuff from that timeline
-
No it's not true, unless they change from how they did it for tdb release. If you have legendaries they will become rare engram's though.
-
Yeah, it doesn't work. Source? Myself. I saved some Engrams and packages for The Dark Below. I received old gear and weapons. And, I didn't get commendations from the packages.
-
Half of what you are doing is wrong. But the engrams are still valuable. Cryptarch levelling produces a package which contains the creation of an engram (Blue or purple). The engrams created through these packages after the DLC is released might grant you with new DLC items. Saving those engrams is a good way to level up your cryptarch and gain additional packages.

Before TDB came out I kept a couple legendary engrams and they decrypted to the pre DLC gear. Don't think it'll pay off unless they change the problem before release. For some reason though, the exotic weapon bounties gave you the higher attack weapon if you waited to turn in the bounty until DLC release.

As far as I know, and this is just based I what I've heard and think is reliable, is that: Faction reward packages are set when they are generated, so they will remain TDB. Cryptarch reward packages reward engrams, and while the type of engram is determined when the package is generated, the engrams themselves are not into you pick it up, so saving Cryptarch packages will reward HoW engrams. As for saving engrams, I have heard that they will not reward new gear if saved from before an expansion. But I did read a post by someone who was absolutely adamant that they saved some engrams from before TDB and they received new drops from them. So I'm unsure of which way that one goes.

Hmmm I know this little company called YouTube
-
Every one thought they could do that when tdb came out, we saved our legendary engrams but not packages. When me and my friends decrypted them it gave us all low attack and low light lvl gear. So it did not work then so im sure it wont work again.

Engrams won't give new gear...packages will
-
stored package will give you new level engram (DLC2) but stored engram will give you DLC1 level engrave not DLC2.
-
Don't do that. Waste of time. In the weeks leading up to the dlc, get all your factions a bounty or patrol away. Then hand them in after dlc drops
-
It's true. Source : last dlc. I believe how the system works is that it is already predetermined at pick up hence why it won't pick from the new loot table as its coded from the old. There was an explanation during an old weekly update for the first expansion

The smart thing to do would be saving motes of lights for the new exotic engrams, saving all 10-30, 5000xp bounties across all 1-3 characters, saving all factions close to levelling to the next rank, saving all strange coins for new content. I'm gonna do this as soon as I have a confirmed release date for HoW, then i can figure out the amount of time I will be able to do most of the above :)
-
Fk, I can't even get an engram, my last 8 levels with new monarchy has been this; 1 strange coin, 1 ascendant material, 1 commendation. Have put the game down for now as endless grinding for zero reward has finally lost its appeal after 7 months.

Save your exotic and legendary engram's, not your packages. Reason: upgrade cryptarch faster with higher quality engram's. Get a post dlc engram from it. Level all your factions close to leveling so there's not much to do to level it up. Easy peezy. If anything this gives you something to work towards.

No they will be old. Why would you want to do this? Whats the rush? The dlc will likely be light on content anyway so i can see doing this will only hurt the longevity.

Edited by Capt NSFW_Beard: 3/9/2015 7:01:36 PMI did this for the dark below. Saved up engrams from xur and a wide variety of legendarys and a few dead orbit packages. All came out as 30 light gear, not a single Dark bellow exotic, and all maxed at dmg 300. You are wasting your time
-
-
If you save up your engrams and if your cryptarch level is close to levelling up, you will get a cryptarch package that may have legendary engrams from HoW in it.
-
Better off saving public event packages and leveling all factions to 1 patrol mission or bounty from next level. This is my new plan of action.
-
I also tried it when TDB came out and got old armour, 2 old level guns, one old gun at the new 331 level and one new gun. But yeah everybody else says they are set when you pick them up. Maybe I was mistaken but I don't think so. I have no need for Legendary armour now so I save them anyhow, might move them around a few times between characters using the app when the next DLC hits just to see if it helps. I mean, it can't hurt to try right?
-
Engrams and packages did not work for TDB DLC, it most likely will not work for the HOW DLC
-
No source but myself tried it with tdb and i only got old stuff what you want to do is get all the factions to just about leveled and then level them up all once it comes out
-
The consensus seems to be that although the class potential is not decided at drop the stat potential (i.e. the light level and attack power) is. As such, you will never get new DLC items from old engrams EXCEPT possibly from Cryptarch packages mailed to you if you happen to level up as a result of the old engrams.
