I'm fairly new to destiny need tips
I am a bit confused on how the weapons upgrade I am level 14 hunter I've still yet to understand how to unlock the weapon tree or how to use materials to upgrade the weapons? Can someone explain to me? Do you have to just use the weapon as often as possible? Also is the loot randomized or is it set by a default? (I mostly play campaign)

Note* ascendant energy are only used during the last upgrade tree. •Legendary (Crotas End raid): weapon parts,glimmer and radient energy. Note* radient energy are only used during the last upgrade tree. •Exotics: weapon parts,glimmer and one exotic shard. Note* the exotic shard is used for the last upgrade in the upgrade tree •All weapons need experience to upgrade. Experience can be gained by: killing enemies,turning in bounties,doing patrol missions, etc. •Note* Make sure you have the weapons you want to upgrade equipped when turning in bounties •Note 2* Exotics take longer to upgrade. However weapon telemetry (sold by xur) make the process go by a little faster. •Note 3*Ascendant materials can be dropped as rewards from the VOG raids, decoding legendary engrams,doing the daily heroic mission, completing public events and loot from crucible matches. •Note 4* Radient materials can only be found in the Crotas End raid as of right now.

(I mostly play campaign)[/quote] Ok, here's the thing, what you have to do to upgrade your weapons is either use them a lot, or equip them right before you turn in a bounty. That's just the exp part that allows you to upgrade them. To actually upgrade the highlighted skill, you just press it as long as you have the required materials. Now, the loot. This is a touchy subject as people very rarely receive what they want. Yes, it is supposedly number generated(RNG), but it's highly doubted. Since you play more campaign, yes your rewards are more or less set, not including engrams. As I said somewhere earlier, message me if you have any questions

Do not waste your time on upgrading weapons/ armor till you get to twenty and get some blue or purples with light levels to upgrade. once your character has gotten to twenty start doing the vanguard strikes for marks and reputations, do your daily bounties for both eris and roboto as they will provide you with both currency and exp to level your purple vanguard armor, along with the daily story mission. Once you get to about 26 and 27 start doing VoG and look into the weekly heroic stuff. As you progress closer to 30 (28 or so) do the nightfall if you feel up to it, start putting CE in your weekly rotation of activities once you hit 30. The game isn't to hard to follow once you get the flow of things, it's all about proper time management after a while. It seems overwhelming at first but once you get the hang of it you will be on auto pilot for most of it.

The weapon tree is random, and expands for each tier (legendary is much larger than rare, rare is larger than uncommon). As you gain experience (bounties, mission rewards, killing stuff), the weapon will also gain that experience. It will the progressively unlock the nodes in the upgrade tree.

My advice. - get through story - find a nice person to carry you through Crotas end raid up to ir yut - level up Crota gear - make two more of same character... - repeat above steps till lvl 30-32 - help noobs get Crota gear - do the nightfall/weekly 3x per week - if you like crucible, run roc strikes to get you some better weapons.

Right now, the weapons/gear you own won't really have any upgrade trees to utilise. However, once you start getting rare gear and better, you will notice more common and more complex upgrade trees.

Do 50 strikes from the planet load screen before you do the animal names ones. You'll have a better chance at loot as a reward if you do. Patrol is good for rep and you can choose who you gain rep with by buying their class Item and wearing it. After lv16 use the strangers rifle it is good! And pulse rifles are getting a massive buff soon. Strikes are good for vanguard marks Crucible is for ... Crucible marks Depending on which vendor armour weps you like the look of max the appropriate marks each week.

The weapons level up just like you do as you use them. You won't really need to upgrade your weapons and armor much at level 14 though. You replace them pretty quickly as you level. Just save your materials until you're 20.

Change gear and weapons when turning in bounties. Trust me, took me a while before noticing haha. Try all classes. Just for fun. Do a raid. Or two. Never go for A on blind watch. Or steal heavy. Visit Xur. And buy something. Have fun.

Xp unlocks the upgrade. Glimmer is easy to come by. You get plasteel plating(or whatever you hunters use) by dismantling armor. Spirit bloom, spinmetal, etc. are found dusting patrols.
