got a strategy that makes it seem considerably easier
1. opening fight: a titan with blessing of light makes it easier to get out with decent health
instead of killing the hallowed knights, you get them to near death
then someone kills them with an ability that produces maximum orbage - this will help make sure one titan has enough supers to get you through everything
2. everyone runs to the centre, outside the first room, on the other side of the forcefields
you should be able to burn the swordbearer from there
a hunter picks up the sword and goes up the right rocks
a titan goes to the right platform (where crota goes when he goes right) and puts up a bubble there and stays in it - this draws fire from the boomers in the right tower
the hunter cloaks, jumps up, everyone burns crota (titan can help by backing out of his bubble but you want to hold boomer aggro so don't go far)
blink strike - repeat
3. then everyone runs back into the starting area because crota is going to go right
one person stays in the crystal room to keep an eye on the sword bearer and crota
everyone else goes over near the left exit ready to go back to centre
they can kill one boomer in the left tower, but not both, so you take less fire but don't spawn the wizard
when crota goes back to centre they repeat step 2
4. ogres! as soon as the second step 2 is done, the whole team runs toward the bottom room of the right boomer tower
everyone but the swordbearer should be able to pass through the titan bubble to pick up blessing of light, or take the ground path, whatever works
in that bottom room everyone jumps up on platforms to be safe from thralls
an ogre comes out the door - if everyone burns him immediately (use heavy) you can drop him right away
then everyone can leave their platforms to snipe the second ogre who will be visible across the arena
then we basically repeat step 3 - even though crota's probably at centre at the end of step 4, you have the time to spare. wait in the crystal room until he moves to the side and then back to centre again
and then do step 2 one final time
when crota's health hits critical in this final cycle, he'll enrage immediately and summon the oversoul
ignore it and drop crota to finish him
the end
this felt waayyy smoother than anything else i had tried

This is how we did it two days ago. Works well. If sword bearer times it right you can kill Crota with just two swords.
