Destiny is my first ever FPS and I love it!
A few months ago I got the Invective Bounty and made my first foray into the Crucible. I averaged a 0.1 KD the first week... 103 games later I finally managed to get my Invective and have been loving it ever since. Yeah, I do feel like I "earned" that one!
I tried the Iron Banner first time around but gave up after getting shut out my first two games LOL! This past IB went better. I held my own. I got a few good legendary drops. Plus, I reached rank 5, bought some gear/weapons and had fun reforging.
I was embarrassingly bad at the crucible, but my belief was that it couldn't be that hard to get a +1.0 KD. I've enjoyed improving toward that goal. It has been a slow process, but my stats have consistently moved in the right direction.
Last week I got the Thorn bounty, a weapon that has killed me quite often - that after burn. The first steps were easy. Yet, the 500 void points in the crucible would have been impossible for me even a month ago even though being a Voidwalker Warlock helps quite a bit. It has been a satisfying feeling doing the bounty now. I've played 6 control matches and have 344 points atm.
Last night I received Hawkmoon. This was my second exotic reward. I got Hard Light playing control a while back. Getting an exotic to drop is always fun.
I'm still not a "good" player, but the challenge motivates me and makes my time in the Crucible fun. Isn't that the whole point?
EDIT: Thanks for all the positive feedback! Proof that there are good guardians enjoying the game. GLGL

The crucible is the worst piece of garbage ever created with the label pvp. Not only it is a shame from the technical point of view (the lag makes BF4 the perfect game) but it full of stupid game mechanics that only a retarded monkey can have designed.... if you like it, you seriously have some issue. Try BF4 TDM. Not perfect but far better.

Keep at it, man. :)

Though I am extremely jealous and the majority of my playtime has been on crucible.... congrats on the hawkmoon. If only Bungie updated the game to increase exotic chance slightly every 100 hours or so. Then I might have hawkmoon by now. Tip for you, if you're a hunter learn how to jump all over the play as you hip fire down on players, eventually people will get so confused and just die to you.

Well written

Love your approach to the crucible even though you have trouble at times. If only more pvp newbies had your mindset the pvp community would be in a much better placr

Similar experience here. Love the crucible. It gives me a major rush and sets my heart racing lol. I think Im in love xD
-
Good job man keep working on it. If you want some pointers or anything hit me up!

Thanks for posting this! I spent the first 4 months on this game avoiding the Crucible like the plague aver since I tried it early and got my behind whipped (but good!) I would delete rather than take any bounty that involved the Crucible. I finally decided to give it a go for the Bad Juju. As I struggled through the matches I found that I was slowly but surely improving my skills. I tried to learn from my mistakes and experiment with different weapons to see which fit my style of play. { I'm thinking of recording my matches (easy to do on Xbone) so I can review them later to see what adjustments to make (I have a tendency to go for the melee when I should just use a good shotgun) } When I finally completed the bounty for the Bad Juju I sloooowly walked up to the Gunsmith to collect my weapon (tryin' to play it real coool!!) It felt FANTASTIC getting that gun. I saw it as a valuable life lesson in trying something different and uncomfortable in order to achieve a worthwhile goal(at least that's what I told my wife !). Ihave no idea if I will ever hit the +25 kill threshold needed for the Invective shotgun but I am willing to give it a good solid go for at least the next month. And I WILL be going after that Thorn hand cannon someday! : D

Lol niice. I was pretty bad at 1st having come mainly from horizontal shooters where very lil info bombarded u at any engagement The mobility & options available confuse most ppl & force u to adapt continuously. Its so much fun trying to figure players out & knowing u can get better in reactions or meta Keep practicing & learning how to out think other players. The constant challenge makes control chaotic but fun

Wow. i almost always place first but i never once got an exotic. Heck, I've seen 4th and 5th place get more rewards that me. even if they are just blues. Kudos to you; at least you try to improve. play dust 514 if you want some really quick radical fps training.
-
Good attitude. Good luck on getting better that is all you can do. It is good to see that some people still enjoy trying to improve instead of complaining.
-
.1KD to .7 is actually a really good improvement for the time the games been out. Keep on at it bro. You can legitimately become a really good player by the time Destiny 2 drops or something if you stay on that path of improvement

Edited by Ryu Knight98: 1/26/2015 8:32:18 AMI've been playing Combined Arms this weekend before it's gone. Having moments like trying to escape a Pike chasing me while i'm on my Sparrow and then a teammate saved me by sniping the driver off of the pike.

Wow. Hawkmoon is the exotic I want next. You have been very lucky. However thorn is as good just different. Make sure you complete the bounty. Its very good in crucible the DoT is great. I tend to play crucible to get gear for IB or xp from bounties. Never cared about KD and just checked mine which is 0.98. Anyway good luck and if I kill you in the crucible with thorn I apologise as you seen a decent person unless your one of those people who camp with a sniper. Then I'm coming after you with my knife mwhahaha ;)

A lot of people lose sight of the fact that games are meant to be fun. I'm glad you're enjoying the game Ben! Good luck out there.

I have been using hawkmoon in the new 2v2 mode and it is amazing for that. I'm not saying forget about thorn, but you should focus on leveling up your hawkmoon because it is an absolute beast.
-
Kudos to you QuickBen. I am pretty much the same, in that whilst trying to improve it is ultimately about having fun doing it. Too many stat whores about, and to be honest most of them turn out to be the worst team players.
-
If you're ever going positive, I guess the title should be: "Enjoying the Suros" v( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)v
-
Hawkmoon is amazing sir, level it up and it'll drop about anything. I use it in the vog sometimes and drop the shit outta shields with it.

Edited by qnCee: 1/25/2015 6:20:02 AMI love it so much. I started with .52 KD but now I'm slowly getting it higher (0.93 now yaay). :)
-
I too enjoy it! Im pretty much a Crucible junkie lol
-
That's how it starts. Pretty soon you won't accept anything other than top of the leaderboard!
-
I started with a .4 KD and almost gave up. I've played games for years but haven't played since 2012. So it was very frustrating. Now I'm almost positive and am having a lot of fun playing crucible. I learned a lot from Iron banner and want to tell everybody who is having trouble to keep learning and trying to improve. You'll get there with enough effort

The problem is with the crucible is the players who is pro. They call almost everyone is a noob who doesn't have a good k/d ratio, and they starting hunt to the noobs. I see that already. Just hunt and kill the same guardian over and over again while he is so frustrated to quit in the middle of the match. I try the crucible and an the first time i get this too from the other "pro" players. Its wasn't a nice welcome and i had enough about the crucible. I heard this many times from other pvp noobs too. Who is playing pvp games for years and good at it shouldn't be act like this. So if you guys read this think about it. Some day nobody want to play with you! Besides thorn is not that good to worth the hard pvp bounty. Fatebringer, Hawkmoon beat thorn any time and you reserve the exotic weapon slot for the icebreaker or the gjallahorn :) I salute you QuickBen. You keep playing crucible despite of you're bad at it. It was furstrated probably.

I hate PvP got talked into this game by a friend before launch, next time I won't preorder anything and I'll research the company making it first because if I had on this one Bungie wouldn't have gotten a penny of my money. As I said I hate PvP.

Very nice to read that. I'm on the same journey. I think I didn't kill anyone in my first game, or maybe just by accident... :) Stopped playing crucible for a while but I have all exotic bounties taking up slots now, and I just can't get myself to delete them. So I thought yesterday. The heck, I'll just go in and have a wander around the maps! I got killed A LOT! But I actually managed to hit someone as well while I tried to have stroll around to orientate myself. It is still very confusing for me and I'm still VERY bad at it, but i will be getting there. And it was actually quite fun. I just wish I had so someone to play crucible with me, I guess it's a bit more fun when you have someone laughing with you and showing you the ropes, but we will see, maybe I can even manage to do those exotic bounties :) Good luck and have fun to everyone else :)
