I love Destiny. My thoughts on how it could be improved [UPDATE!]

I have put a lot of hours into this game so far (400+ including characters I've since deleted) and I have to say I really enjoy playing it. I can't fault the general feel of the gameplay and the basic mechanics that make it the game it is. Unfortunately what I can fault is a lot of issues that have come with the game since the start, I would love to be able to give some feedback to the team at Bungie because I believe they are truly trying to make it the best game they can, and if in any way I can help, I will. Here are a few key issues/suggestions which I think, if looked at, would make Destiny a much more enjoyable world to be in - Tower/General Levelling up Factions should give you faction bounties/missions to earn faction specific shaders/ships (similar to eris quest leads). Faction specific exotics and exotic bounties. I believe factions should take both vanguard and crucible points (or when introducing more, introduce separate vanguard point ones). Vault/Character inventory should be accessible from character selection screen so we don't have to spend 5+ minutes just grabbing a weapon from a character. Reduce load time to tower by having it pre-load on character selection screen (load the geometry and stats, then matchmake when player chooses to visit). Reduce load time to tower by giving player an option to join tower solo (no matchmaking needed). Make Gunsmith, Cryptarch and Shipwright's inventories useful for level 20+, chance of exotics or legendaries maybe? Quest leads/bounties? More PVE events, Iron Banner is fine but a lot of people don't like the PVP so much these days. Introduce exotic engrams, make them rare as heck (almost mythic) but put them in the game. More Vault space (of course) Bring the Grimoire into the game! Have it accessible from orbit and highlight recently unlocked cards for reading. Clean up any grimoire that shouldn't be accesible yet. Add Ship/Sparrow shaders. We all have our faves but I think a bit more variety/customisation would be excellent. Add some more Ghost shells maybe given as rewards.. What happened with these? Surely there should be more than two available in the game! I'd personally like to see enemy themed ones as raid rewards, having vex & hive themed ghosts would be pretty wicked. Trading Now this is something that has been requested by so many people and dismissed so many times and I can see both sides of the arguement. Bungie want all of the gear and weapons to feel special to you and for you to feel as if there's a story behind how you got it (well, in an ideal world). Even if everyone else has gotten the same gear, you can still have that feeling of satisfaction remembering that time you got a Gjallarhorn out of a purple engram dropped from a dreg in the cosmodrome on Patrol (as an amusing example). This is all fair and well but what if the game keeps giving you the same piece of exotic gear over and over (and over and over and over - a friend of mine has had 5 hawkmoons). What do you do with these spares? Melt 'em down of course.. But what if one of your clan/teammates has been pining over this weapon since the first time they laid eyes on it months and months ago. What if you get a duplicate Gjallarhorn when 4 of your 6 man fireteam haven't even had one and they all verbally stare at you with envious silence. You gotta admit, trading would be nice at these times. Trading can be a risky business, as soon as you get something rare and give someone the ability to give this rare item to another person, you end up with people selling weapons for real money. This is a huge MMO issue and something Blizzard even tried to tackle by introducing a real money auction house (which had to be closed down due to a huge amount of hackers and it pretty much ruining the game). If implemented badly into a game, trading would essentially ruin Destiny. I can see why it was taken out in early development. I have discussed this with my clan/teammates on a number of occasions and collectively, we think trading could be successfully implemented if a number of constraints are put in to stop abuse of the function. Here are a few examples that I/we came up with that would allow trading to work in Destiny without ruining the sense of discovery/wonderment and to avoid abuse. I encourage you to pick and choose a few that you think might work well together: Accounts must have PS+/XBL Gold subscription Can only trade with people in your clan (one I would highly encourage) Items can only be traded x amount of time after they are rewarded (24/48 hours?) Items can only be traded once between players Accounts can only trade one item per day Only trade with people you have played x amount of hours together ingame (Something like 100+) Each item in the game has its own in game value. Trading this item will require the recipient to cough up x amount of glimmer to recieve (& an exotic/ascendant/radiant shard/energy maybe?) Let me know your thoughts guys! Handling leaks/building hype ADDRESS THE LEAKS. Tell us the truth and if they are false, provide us with actual evidence and information to prove it, rather than letting rumours run free "out here in the wild". Give us something to stick around for? A teaser highlighting some of the upcoming content, raids, gear, anything!! Doesn't have to show everything the DLC has to offer, just tease us Bungie! We need more hype because at the moment we're just getting leaked info and complaints about it. Give us a hint about VoG! Have we found all the secrets? If not.. TELL US! Give us a cryptic hint! I guarantee it'll drive the fanbase insane (in a good way). ^ Same with Crota's End. Fix VoG bugs, Praetorians shouldn't be regenerating health! Oracles that have been destroyed shouldn't kill everyone! These might be lag issues but still could do with addressing. Ideas & Crucible There are plenty of good ideas around the forums that could be implemented into the game without too much fuss and expand the longevity of the game! - Hard mode patrol with a 6 man fireteam. Enemy population to match "enemy is moving against each other" events, with levels that will match the fireteam group. Level 24+ requirement, increased chance of legendary/exotic drops and more xp/glimmer for kills & patrol missions. Give us the ability to run story missions/strikes with a new difficulty mode that brings in random modifiers. Introduce more varied and interesting modifiers for this like double melee damage, half jump height but full agility, large explosions. Essentially just think along the lines of the more fun skulls from H3 but more of them! Would be pretty fun and I could think of loads of modifiers that would be real fun and challenging. Strikes could introduce more randomness in enemy spawns, maybe different locations, occasionally changing it up maybe? Give us more crucible modes. Bring back CTF! Ghost/relic-ball? Sparrow races? Relic holder VIP gametypes? Crucible should give two seperate reward instances, one RNG and one skill/point based. Skill/point based should have higher chance of legendaries/exotics. PRIVATE/CUSTOM MATCHES! Something we all knew and loved in Halo! If bounties are the things stopping this from happening, just make it so bounties can only be used in matchmade gametypes. Bring back larger crucible maps into permanent playlists! A lot of us liked them. More vehicles! Coming from Halo to Destiny makes Destiny feel like an almost infantry only game. When balancing guns/abilities in PVP, try to minimalise the effect it will have on PVE. Not so good having an amazing weapon turn useless overnight (Pocket Infinity & Mythoclast, prime example). EDIT: Thanks for all the positive responses this thread has gotten! There are a few gems in the comments below which I'll add into this list (don't want to bloat it too much though so don't take it personally if I don't add yours!). I would personally love to see a few of these implemented into the game. EDIT #2: Added section about trading I feel that even some of the simple ones that wouldn't take much development time would increase the overall enjoyment of the game sevenfold! Hard mode patrol, Strike randomness and a random modifier difficulty/playlist are some of my faves. Thanks for reading! James
