WTF is with the story?????

Is it just me or is the story in this game very weak? Yes I understand it will be built upon in future DLCs and Destiny 2 but why on earth couldnt things be clarified that are already present? For example, who exactly is the stranger? So shes not a guardian, great, so? Lol. And who was she talking to after that first mission on mars, what happened to them? If the cabal couldnt break into Rasputin because "he's everywhere" - so what? When ghost says in the final mission that everything makes sense now, well... What makes effin sense???? And why are all the alien races fighting between each other. Yeah, not everyone cares about the story in a game but I do, especially if its one where I put in an immense amount of time and effort. Please devote more time to this element in the future! I want to understand what my character is involved in and why

  • Over time playing this game my idle brain made its own story (I reject your reality and submit my own in its place!) Warning, the following is poorly written. Please avoid if you are allergic to reading or opinions.
The Traveler was the culmination of one of the oldest species in our galaxy. A people who wished to become immortal, to search the stars for new life, to spread their knowledge to all they come across. The Traveler was created to do just that, a housing for the collective consciousness of an entire species. When it was finished, they shed their bodies and downloaded themselves to the Traveler’s collective to begin their great journey across the starts. This was the beginning of their torment. For aboard the Traveler, there was no need to sleep, no hunger, no thirst, nothing to do but run simulations and search for anything interesting. To complicate things, space… is really, really empty. No other race the Traveler came across had become truly sentient, nothing new to occupy their idle thoughts. The only minds to thrive in an environment like this were the ones who had come to enjoy the ruthless ridicule, humiliation, and anguish of others in the collective. Many fell prey to the scorn; the worst was for any who dared to have an opposing opinion, or to refute the actions of these rogue minds. Although they were only a small percentage of the entire collective, they would band together as one voice to crush all who would speak against them. In time, they were all that was left. All others who had dedicated themselves to the Traveler simply deleted themselves. To truly understand the Traveler, and its role in the galaxy, you must first understand its interaction with just some of the civilizations that it has encountered in the past. The Fallen, the Hive, the VEX and the Cabal have each in turn been visited by the Traveler, with vastly different results. The Fallen were once a mighty and proud people. Of all the races they had the most similar social and economic similarities to humans. They had already achieved warp drive technology and were in the process of colonizing new worlds when they were found by Traveler. They had formed a republic consisting of members from each government of each new world. Peace was uneasy, as each of world bickered about mining rights and territories. Both communication and travel between worlds was slow with first generation warp drives and lack of interstellar communication. Pirates continually attacked and raided smaller colonies, as no solid defense force could be mustered. It almost seemed as if the republic was inevitably going to fracture into smaller armed factions when the Traveler came to them. On the brink of crumbling, the Traveler gave them the give of interstellar communication, and the design of a centralized database for all their knowledge, ideas and history. The Traveler guided them to build a republic wide network of instantaneous communication to link every government and citizen to the network. Everything in the republic was connected and controlled through the network, and it wasn't long before their society was completely dependent on it for every aspect of life. Older pirate ships were no match for the responsiveness of the new republic defense fleet, and were pushed well outside of republic territory. The republic had for the first time achieved a golden age. It wasn’t to last, as one day, the Traveler inconspicuously connected to the network, and downloaded something that it had been working on for a while. A small program, seemed to most as an update, but in actually a digital bomb waiting to go off. At the eve of the celebration for the coming of the Traveler, every byte of information from every electronic device in the entire network was erased. In one night, everything was gone; all their history, their communication, everything they had ever known was lost to them. Without flight control, any ship in warp transit was ripped apart as it was thrown back into normal space, debris slamming into planets at near the speed of light, vaporizing entire cities. Governments turned on each other as they blamed one another for the virus. Warlord and pirates began to seize power without contest, their older ships unaffected by the loss of the network. Within a generation these people were nothing more than scavengers, clawing at each other for what few scraps remained, Fallen from their great civilization. Those that would become the Hive would have been considered the most beautiful civilization in the entire cosmos by all who would gaze upon them. Everything from their cities to their spacecraft looked as if it were designed as pieces if living artwork. They lived as massive colonies, with a queen who birthed every drone, every worker and every solider in their society. Each being worked and built as their queen willed, as could be seen in the difference in architecture from colony to colony The Traveler came to them at a crucial point in their history. The colonies had always been at odds with each other. Engagements ranged from simple raids to all-out war that ended when one or more colonies were completely wiped out. When the Traveler approached them it used the examples of the Fallen’s golden age as an example of how to work out differences though discussion. The Traveler constructed a great tower, and called the queens together so they may eat, drink, and talk to one another about their quarrels and indiscretions. For a time at least, there was piece between the colonies. It was when they were together, that the Traveler was quietly corrupting the queens through the food. It wasn't apparent at first, but in time the effects became more and more visible. It was first noticeable in the architecture. What was once beautiful became twisted as the workers followed the corrupted will of their queens. Then the people began to changed, each generation more deformed then the last. In this time, the queens themselves grew more and more grotesque, coming to hate everything beautiful, the reminders of what they once were. Oryx, the most powerful of all the queens, began the Great Culling, something that had never happened before in their entire history, civil war within a colony. Slaughtering all the older members of her own colony, Oryx wiped out every reminder of their former glory. One by one, each colony followed and the Great Culling spread. When they finished killing themselves, the queens would turn on each other. One by one the great colonies fell, until all that was left was Oryx and her Hive. If one word could be used to describe the world that would birth the Vex it would be: Technology. From birth to death, they depended on their technology. They were a small people by comparison to most other species. What they lacked in size, they made up for in tenacity. Everything from controlled wormholes to time manipulation was as their grasp. The downside, they had quite short lifespans. Their mindset was to always be advancing, yet they never could extend their own existence more than a few years. What the Traveler brought to them was the promise of immortality, showing how to craft their technology into their very bodies through cybernetics. Death from age had become avoidable to everyone. The drawback, more and more implants were needed as time went on, to replace their ever failing bodies. These changes were only accepted from a newly found fear of death, and the excitement of becoming more and more connected to their technology. The VEX, as they were come to be known, soon were little more than organic minds controlling robotic bodies. When enough of the people had competed the transformation, the Traveler introduced a new toy, the VEX Mind. The Minds could connect to millions of individual VEX frames at once, assisting with everything from communication to furthering technological development. The end came when the Traveler gave the Mind one primary directive: always be advancing, at the cost of everything. The Mind only took one cycle to determine the most efficient way to achieve this goal. To override each individual VEX frame, controlling the unit and enslaving the mind inside. Next, it forced the rest of the unaltered members of society into VEX frames. Many tried to hide, even going as far to create time gates to warn their past spicies of the danger. This created a new opportunity for the Mind. It was much faster to cultivate the biological component needed for a VEX frame then it was to grow one. The Mind created copies of itself, and sent them through the time gates with a VEX invading force to conquer and transform the population from every previous generation in history. To the observer, the VEX population skyrocketed instantaneously to the trillions. As each generation was transformed, planetary temporal shielding was erected to prevent the impending grandfather paradox from destroying everything that ever existed for the VEX. When they were done, the shield was disabled, as now the VEX had simply always existed.
Hmm, looks like I'm out of room...

      • I could tell you of a time when the traveller was relevant in the game... I could tell you stories of how this game lacks content, replay value and any sort of plot... These are the stories we told to scare the children... Lately these stories have stopped... But the lack of content still frightens the children anyway...

        • The vex are trying to rewrite themselves into the laws of physics, kind of like a glitch in the system. So they preserve themselves threw all time and space and exist without fear of the other races. The traveler may or may not be evil. I'm still not sure. The traveler created the ghosts which search for fragments of light left over from the wars. enough to reshape into a guardian (Zombie!) The Cabal are war oriented and want to take over the galaxies. The hive are ancient beings ruled by old dark and powerful gods that transcend dimensions. Crota is only an offspring of one of these creatures. Their agenda is to wipe out all 'light' The queen dabbles in "light" and "darkness" Trying to gain power to rule all. Her brother may want to backstab her for the throne. She has authority over the prisons that hold the Fallen Archons, this may give her some leeway to control the lower fallen ranks. The fallen race need servitors ether to live. The archon priests comunicate with servitor primes. There relationship may be compared to the guardian/ghost/traveler situation. The fallen agenda is to survive. And may be slaves to the servitors for it. The 9 may be considered dark. They work from the shadows. Have a connection with the queen. And has an agent that visits the tower on a weekly basis, maybe to collect protection money from the speaker (lol jk) The speaker says he's the go to guy for the traveler, he collects Motes of Light and does experiments with them. He is not human. The factions are groups of people that crave power. Each one with their own personal views and agendas. They know the earth is up for the taking and the more powerful faction will crown themselves the new government of earth. (I wonder why the speaker lets the new monarchy so close) Humans are on the brink of extinction and quarrel with the fallen on earth for the spoils of the old war. Exo, created by humans to help are a new race of their own. They do not age. Awoken are a group of humans that thousands of years ago during the old war fled to the ends of the solar system to hide. After so much time and in a much different environment the humans evolved differently. The stranger is an exo, and does not have a ghost. Meaning she was created oh so long ago by humans. Not reshaped light by the travelers minions. (The stranger may know the characters past life). Please let me know I I screwed anything up

Its not about Story its about repeating content over and over and over again and make dam sure you have 5 friends all with nothing to do for at least 30 hours a week otherwise go play COD and BF4 if you want a game that rewards shooting stuff. Destiny is designed to take your money and your time and will make you feel empty and confused and your end up LFG or moaning in forums for months to come. For story DA Inquisition has side quests that the blow Destinys main plot out the water and that game is a good 8 times the size of Destiny.

                  • There actually is a story in Destiny. It won't win any awards but it is there. Destiny's story was told mostly through disposition. And that in itself is ok but Bungie's fault was to put that disposition in loading screens and during fire fights. No one pays attention to loading screens and, in fire fights, the player is more focused on shooting. Also, Bungie left a lot of things open ended on purpose because of their plans for the game via future DLC. In a ten year plan, you don't want to conclude every story and tie every loose end. As far as vanilla Destiny is concerned, the Vex threat is the main storyline. The Dark Below concluded the Hive story line.
