While I understand the need to allow more casual and new players to be able to quickly progress to a level that allows them to play the DLC content, I was not particularly happy with allowing them to purchase gear better than what we earned in VoG. I have an idea about how to fix this for House of Wolves. The Vanguard and factions would sell level 32 gear on day 1, but that gear would have slightly lower stats than CE raid gear. I assume that the hard mode raid will have a month or so delay on it like CE does, and that the new light level cap will be 34. When the new raid's hard mode is released the vendors would sell level 33 gear. I think that this solution would benefit both hardcore and casual players.
