Thoughts About The Forums

At first, being a new forumer in these parts, I was confused as it's not every day when you're browsing the traditional vBulletin, IP.B and Xenforo forums that a Twitter-like system is in place. I'm slowly getting the hang of things and debating whether I like the 'Trending' section or not. A novice Bungie.net member can only ponder how one gets a thread (or post?) trending without having recognition or reputation by other respected members? Certainly interesting though! I assume that, like all new things at first, it'll take some time to get used to and I'll start to familiarize with it fairly quickly - I hope. Seeing as I'm new, here's a few questions: 1. Why the lack of BB code (list, color, image, video, etc)? 2. Can threads be locked and/or stickied by moderators/administrators? 3. Assuming there's a need to move a thread, do moderators possess the ability to move said thread? 4. Are forums simply tags? For example, #recruitment #crucible #clans will show up in the appropriate forums? 5. Does post count simply not exist? How does one review their previous posts? 6. Do administrative threads exist in a specific forum (or tag)? i.e. rules, announcements, etc I know some of these questions may only be answered by experienced members or staff, but I'm simply curious to know!

  • [quote]1. Why the lack of BB code (list, color, image, video, etc)?[/quote] Not entirely sure what that means. Sorry, I have no knowledge of that stuff whatsoever. [quote]2. Can threads be locked and/or stickied by moderators/administrators?[/quote] They used to be. Achronos, head of the Webteam, stated when the site updated to what people call "b.lind" that stickies were no longer a thing due to people not using them, so there was no point in supporting the feature. [quote]3. Assuming there's a need to move a thread, do moderators possess the ability to move said thread?[/quote] Yes, they can move threads to different sections. I believe they can also edit posts as well. If you see the title "Mentor" on someone, they too can move threads as well; but they're not Ninjas/moderators, they're just recognized members of the community Bungie entrusts with very limited powers more inline with helping people. [quote]4. Are forums simply tags? For example, #recruitment #crucible #clans will show up in the appropriate forums?[/quote] Yes, each section is essentially an "official tag," meaning putting a specific tag like #Gaming will put it in the Gaming section. There are other tags that you can follow too, such as #Halo or #PS4. These are created by users so others can follow those tags or search by them to find what they're interested in easier. However, people (especially the Flood/Off Topic) like to use tags as a joke. [quote]5. Does post count simply not exist? How does one review their previous posts?[/quote] You can review posts in a few different manners. You can simply check your notifications when you get one and clicking the notification will bring you directly to your post that's been responded to or liked. You can also go to your profile and check out your activity feed which logs all your recent activity. The mobile app is very limited on what activity it remembers. But on the main site you can scroll through all of your posts, however the UI for user activity on the site is pretty poor and kind of buggy (it's a tab that pops up on the right hand side of the screen). [quote]6. Do administrative threads exist in a specific forum (or tag)? i.e. rules, announcements, etc[/quote]This is kind of meh. Most announcements are found in the Community section of the forums. If there is news or an announcement pertaining to a particular section you can most likely find it in that section. I.e. Destiny news can be found in #Destiny or an announcement about #Gaming can be found in #Gaming. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. I, or many other veterans, will be more than happy to help you figure things out.
