Why not have Universal Marks?

Yes, the marks should be combined into one

No, PvP should be a requirement for Factions

While the last patch was, I think, overall pretty grand ... there was a pretty vocal group upset about having the ability to trade materials for marks removed. Why? Because previously they had farmed to trade for Crucible marks and now they can't. While I never personally used materials for rep that much - I prefer to keep whatever materials I have around for quick upgrades on new weapons ... I can see the point. But instead of getting the feature back, I think it is better to ask: 1) Why do we have two distinct marks? 2) Why does EVERY faction other than Vanguard use Crucible marks?? On #1 - the only mechanic I can see to excuse the different marks is to force players to play both PvE and PvP. I don't see the rational for that with a game that was designed to run the spectrum between both modes. The people upset with the patch aren't really annoyed with the economy at large - they're annoyed that Bungie is getting them to play a mode they don't want to play. What other pro is to having the distinction? On #2 - this just makes no sense at all. Not from a story point of view - what, the factions send you on Patrol missions but actually only care if you win or die in the Crucible? Not from a mechanic point of view, if you MUST have the distinction, why not have one out of three factions allied with Vanguard instead of Crucible? If we had universal marks: 1) PvE and PvP players could participate in the game however they saw fit 2) Instead of farming for materials in lieu of Crucible marks, farmers could just earn universal marks on patrol/bounty. 3) The current marks for materials trade could remain intact without any impact to the economy The only downside I see is that the current marks would have to undergo a kind of depreciation since there are now two funnels into the same currency instead of one. Other than that, nothing but net. What say you?

 • The reason why Bungie "forces" us to do PvP and PvE, to leave our comfort Zones and actively search for a group to do the raid are that we have more reason to buy future content. It`s a business decision.
