This is taken from my argument with someone who said why take someone into a raid/nightfall/etc when they use a subclass that is ready for them to die. The following is what I told him. He never replied while I was the 2nd person to reply to his post.
So you're saying you never die while playing a high difficulty mission where self - res could save the game? If so, I applaud you if its true. But if not- don't whine about it. Let's just use atheon as an example.
You and your fire team are whaling away on him, then a group of supplicants get you from behind. You've just lost all of your progress on the fight... unless one or two sun singers can self res. Then they can stay alive long enough to revive their fellow fallen guardians and kick Atheon's ass.
Self res is not built for you to die. It's a life saver. Something to use in case emergencies (IE- Atheon fight / Crota Fight).
Now if the warlock sucks and doesn't know when to properly use self res and is dying to often, then it's understandable that you wouldn't want him. But if s/he's just as good of a player as the rest of the team, and he has that emergency button to save the day, then why not bring him along?

Bump! There has been countless times sun singer has saved the whole fire team from getting kicked to orbit
