News article voices frustrations I've heard quite often - will these be addressed and fixed?

Polygon is spot on - Bungie needs to fix this now

662

Polygon makes good points, but it's not that bad

117

Polygon is wrong, nothing needs to be fixed

i saw this article pop up on Facebook and shared it with fellow gamers, clan members, and friends. Almost across the board people were nodding their heads in agreement and saying how many good points the article made. The question is will these issues be seen and taken to heart by Bungie?

  • There are quite a few things Bungie can improve, but Destiny still is a fun game to play online with friends. Now here is a forum on the Bungie site so it would be great to see Bungie do something with some of the greatest frustrations of players. Things I would like to see in random order are: 1. Make VoG gear better again or as Vanguard gear. Or add new gear in VoG to drop. This should make the VoG raid more attracting again. 2. Add a new planet instead of reversing a level and make it a new strike. 3. Drop the cap on glimmer 4. Make items upgradable with different materials. I play Warlock most of the time and every damn thing seems to need helium fragments. 5. That RNGesus thing. Randomize without using one of the last three items/ strikes/ stories/ etc... 6. Patrol things are a bit boring. The quest like the one with the urn was more fun. 7. Orbit screen faster and option to skip storyline movies. Positive things about the game are: 1. Multiplayer. It's fun to play with friends and you don't need a big party of unknown people to play a strike or raid. 2. Raids. Set up well. You have to do different things each part of the raid and you have a savepoint after each part. 3. Ingame depths. I love the depths, height differences in game and at a great distance you still can see people and enemies move and kill with snipers for example. 4. I was never a big fan of shooters on consoles and Destiny is the first console shooter which I really love. Also love to see it improve to make it even better.

The only thing Polygon missed was how much this "DLC" is really worth. I'd wager $4-5. Acutually no, more like 99 cents to 2 maybe 3 USA dollars... Where did the millions of dollars go that Bungie spent on Destiny? Where is Destiny?

    • I honestly regret buying the DLC. It doesn't add anything much exept the raid and exotic gear. The new missions are so easily forgetful and not even ALL the missions can be replayable. Like wtf? I paid $20 for missions i can't even grind again and again and again as you force us to? I could've used that money for some weed, man.. But alas, here we are, with Destiny's multiple dicks down our throat and ass, -blam!-ing our money away with stupid and unnecesary -blam!-ing updates that don't add anything progressive to the game. 4 months in and im still seeing -blam!-ing Caterpillar on my screen at least 5 times a gaming session. I am on the edge of trading this shit on gamestop to get at least $15 to go buy me some ice cream and cry myself to sleep because i wasted $80 i could've wasted on weed.. WEED MAN.

    • yep, this new grind system with all the new currencies and advanced requirements is ridiculous. I try to enjoy the ride and not the destination but this was a brutally bad mistake. But besides the new grind fest, I like TDB new missions, strikes, raid and multiplayer maps.

      • Highly unlikely. The more they try and fix things the more they screw them up. Patching the atheon cheese is a prime example, as is the weapon nerfing.

      • The results are not surprising to me. Polygon nailed it, bungie has replaced fun with grind. I don't mind the price tag on games or dlc, but the amount of content with both the base game and dlc are severely lacking. The whole RNG with the grind system adds countless hours of boring repetitive gameplay. I enjoy and hate destiny and after the dark below launched I've been reluctant to play do to the facts polygon stated. I worked hard to upgrade quite a few exotics and reach 30 on 2 characters for what? I don't understand what's so hard to add a few new nodes to the upgrade tree of the exotic versus making me wipe my progress and start over. To put things simple I am a very disappointed fan of the destiny project and will no longer fund this business with my dollars.

        • This is exactly the reason as to why I didn't bother with raiding in vanilla Destiny, I understood that the plain VoG gear would be made redundant come expansions and DLC; I committed to the crucible instead, which is really fun and rewarding in itself. Its only recently I've begun to dabble in raiding, which is fun to an extent, but not so much as it is going to make me commit fully to beating the raid hard and normal modes. Especially considering all that work is in high probability going to be in vain when another DLC (House of Wolves) is released, since I honestly think Bungie has committed themselves to this route as is right now. I have trouble seeing any sort of change in the way they are going to handle the DLC and power-creep which occurs in these kinds of games. So just don't commit too much to Destiny, since there is very little point in doing so.

Umm. He said "If Bungie can acknowledge it's Mistakes" Yah about that...... pretty sure they plan out how they do these things so to them it wouldn't be a mistake. It's not like one dude implemented all this and no one else knew about it. Bottom line. Take it for what it is. Move on if it pisses you off that much. Life is short. I play it b/c I'm casual and don't have that much vested in the game. I play a lot but could care less. Honestly If I wouldn't have already paid for the DLCs, I wouldn't be playing this game anymore. The Business model behind this game is a joke. Is has completely destroyed what could have been an epic adventure.

            • Yeah I agree with just about everything this dude is saying. When i logged on and saw that all the progress I made since launch was pretty much for nothing (I have 3 lv 30's and all with upgraded raid/exotic weapons) I have played very little since. This is crap.

            • My biggest issue is destiny has great content about 2 hours worth and if you want to enjoy it you have to put 100 hours of mindless shitty grinding and it kills the game to the point where it's almost unplayable

            • Personally the max light level per item should have stayed at 30. The character level should have gone from 20 to 22 thus increasing the combined light level of light level 30 gear to 32. This would make any gear gained before TDB came out still relevant. Previous raid gear wouldn't be obsolete every time a new dlc drops. There would be no need for gear from vendors with more light, we would get gear because of different perks or looks and we could finally have some actual customisation of gear look instead of choosing the gear with the highest light level. There would still be light level decrease when you equip new gear so you would still have to max out the perk tree, but the amount of perk combinations would increase with every DLC because of new gear and weapons. More combinations means more customisation. Players (and people in general) love, love, love to customise and this would make the grind less of a chore.

              • The biggest of all problems I see is that raid.... I don't care if my VoG raid gear is useless but what pisses me off is the time I wasted to get it. Buy to 31 is a joke complete joke.... It would of been better if the raid gear was still useful well acquiring newer better gear. Make 2 tiers of gear or what they did with VoG only get half at a lower level raid..... Make crota a 28 raid with up to 30 that way the old stuff is still good tell you get the new stuff then do a crota 30 or 32 with guys 32 level. Come on bungie it's not that hard get your shit together you have lost a huge amount of gamers. Me for one I don't get the point to doing the new raid I'll just wait tell house of wolves comes out and just buy to 33 if I even stick with it that long. Why waste hours on stuff that I will only dismantle minutes of a new expansion coming out.

              • People keep looking at the negative of Destiny only. I call bullshit on that. I play atleast once a day, for a couple hours. Have 3 characters, one my primary, the others just to have and play. This article is completely biased. A true "hardcore" gamer is always looking for the next challenge. A true "hardcore" gamer won't really give a damn to go hunt new shit while grinding. World of Warcraft has done this. A ton of other RPGs have done this. A new expansion comes out, all of the old stuff won't be up to par with the new stuff, it's that simple. No one complains when those games do it, but when a console shooter RPG in a "shared world" that is overly unique does it, everyone loses their damn mind. New expansions look to be coming every 3 months. A new full game possible every 2-3 years. Every expansion, old gear will be outdated, just like in EVERY OTHER RPG WITH AN ONLINE WORLD. I do not agree with this article and see it as completely biased. I'm a "casual hardcore" gamer. I've played Xbox for years, had my account for Jan '08, have just recently cleared 100k gamerscore, and only get a few hours a day sometimes to play and I still try to do everything in the game. And when a new expansion comes out, I try to do everything and get everything in it, even though some days I just don't care to play at all. There is good in Destiny, but no one wants to point that out, they just keep pointing out all of the bad then trash talk Bungie. How about you sorry lot bashing this game go try and get a 200+ person team and build a giant game and see just how hard it is. And how hard it is to please every single person (just a hint, that last part is impossible). I love Destiny. I see its faults and acknowledge them, but I don't bash and complain like most do. I give proper, RESPECTFUL feedback on where improvement could be and then go about my day enjoying life. The exotic upgrades? This is how you look at it. You buy a small bird house. It requires being built. You build it. Now a few months later, the same birdhouse releases, but it has a slightly sturdier build to it. Do you buy it because it is better for your bird? If you love your bird enough, then yes, you do. You have to build it again, start from the beginning. And you wouldn't have a problem with that, would you? No, because you love that damn bird. Same with Destiny's exotics. Pick what you use (love) most, then upgrade. You have to start from scratch, but it'll be a better build when you're done. Too many people have become too "entitled" to the "easy life" getting rewarded for nothing. -blam!-ing grow up. Seriously. You have to work for what you want. Atleast a few people understand that this day and age.
