I constantly get disconnected from Xbox live when playing Destiny

As the title says, I am constantly getting disconnected from Xbox live. This only happens when I play Destiny. I can watch Netflix and play other games online no problems. But I can not even log in and go to the Tower or any mission. Either during the loading screen or as soon as I land on a planet I get an error message and am then disconnected from Xbox Live. Sometimes I can maintain connection for about 20 minutes and then I am disconnected. I have seen the following error codes when this happens: Caterpillar and Hawk are most common, followed by Weasel, Viper, JackRabbit, and Ferret. In spite of all this, I am rarely disconnected when playing with other players. I can raid for hours without getting disconnected once. But as soon as I try to do anything on my own I am disconnected. I have tried all suggestions on both Bungie's help page and Microsoft's. I have tried port forwarding my router and setting a static ip for my xbox but upon doing so I am told that my NAT is set to strict. My ISP is Comcast.

  • After the last update just prior to the Dark below I started being kicked about every 15 to 20 minutes, after following the networking suggestions I finally setup static NAT's through my firewall to my router then through my router to my Virgin Media Super hub, then finally checked the advanced settings on the Hub and found the IP address that is dynamically allocated by the Hub to my router was different to the device that was listed as connected. Setup a reservation on the hub to always allocate the same IP to my router and the same for all devices back to my Xbox One, finally rebooted The Virgin Media Hub and since Sunday have played Destiny without any disconnects.

    Are you on a wired connection or wifi ? If you are on wifi try to put it on wired for a while and see if you have the same problem still you should call you provider . With wifi it could be that some port are closed that are needed to be open and or you have some fire walls blocking info going into destiny that is needed . The problem could be your router and or modem too if you are on wifi .

    • Hi had this issue recently and as usual Bungie only provided half of the answer.... It's to do with the patch that is approximately 76 mb. I am guessing you have been prompted to download it several times? It's an error and you need to download it via a wired connection. Once I did this destiny worked again. Bungie did mention this In their update this week but they failed to mention that it could be the source of error messages 100s of people if not thousands have been experiencing.... Especially in the UK. Hope that helps

      • My connection is fine I have reset my router and reconnected to Xbox multiple times and when I test connection it says everything is fine. I keep getting returned to orbit and pineapple errors

      • Bungie is a -blam!-ing joke. This 'glitch' has been out since DAY ONE. And they haven't managed to fixed it yet. Instead, the few players whom found a way to fix it themselves back in Late September got screwed over AGAIN after a patch that returned the same BULLSHIT error codes. I am SICK AND TIRED of this worthless company 100% turning their backs to this problem I have a right to be mad, I paid for a pro duct that DOES NOT work!

        • Unfortunately this is not a Modem problem on "Our end". Bungie must have made some changes to accommodate the DLC on their end... and those config changes are what's causing the issue. Like others have said... some modems are prone to have issues.... but those issues tend to be XBL specific [connection issues with XBL directly]. Most folks in the Help forums specifically state that tey can connect just fine outside of destiny. Moreover... if it were to be a modem issue... then that issue would be just as bad when playing with others [Usually the frequency of drops decreases when playing with other folks]. Kinda hard to identify the issue as being the modem when this issue started for many of us when the DLC was downloaded... It would have to be a whole lotta coincidence for all of our modems to dies at the same time... which is so highly unlikely that it'a not a viable excuse. Clearly Bungie did something on their end.... if I were to hazard a guess... there was some legacy code configs attached to the DLC which reintroduced this issues to the game. I say this because: 1. Every major DLC they've released has caused these kind of issues for some portion of their players/customers... not as bad as this... but similar. 2. Just the nature of the issue itself: I have lost connection plying with friends... getting dropped form Destiny while still being able to chat with my m8's. Sometimes my XBOX completely disconnects [XBL included] until I dashboard.... then my connection immediately reconnects... which suggests that the issue does not affect XBL at all.... but specifically the connection to Destiny servers. Just that fact that it affected so many at the same time and since suggests that this issues falls squarely in Bungie's lap. They either made some config changes to the server which is causing these drops, or there something in the DLC that is causing these issues. This, of course is speculation as I have no info on their server setup.... but the BS Bungie keeps selling about this being a modem specific issue seems dubious at best.

          • Hey Bungie, why don't you just rework Destiny to NOT be required to be online, issue a disc to everyone who paid a retailer for your unplayable game, & never make this mistake again. This is total BS. I have very little time to game & have been unable to make any progress past the first two missions. I have ZERO interest in matchmaking or multiplayer, why the hell do I need to be connected through the internet? I've reconfigured my network to all your specifications & I'm still getting disconnected. At least you've taken partial responsibility recently instead of acting like the fault is all on our ends. Do the right thing & either ACTUALLY FIX THE PROBLEM, make a reissue that works offline, or start issuing refunds and admit you failed miserably.

          • Funny thing about Destiny. I have two Xbox Ones (my fiance and I play together) they are both hard wired direct to our modem which is a 50MB/s connection, fibre op. We both get disconnected a couple of times a day on average, some days are worse then others. The funny thing is that it's almost always just one machine that gets disconnected (no pattern as to which one). Now explain to me how my NAT settings or something else on my setup can magically change on one system but not the other... What I'm getting at is that every time Bungie gives me an error, and they basically all say it's your fault, in not so many words. That isn't the case at all. Their servers are oddly sensitive and disconnect randomly for no reason for people.

          • Get ready to have a bunch of paid posters tell you its on YOUR end. Same issue here. IPlayed FINE form luanch untill that BS Atheon Fix in late october...... Since then this game has been unplayable. Hell i spent a over one hour just trying to hit the Guardian select screen once! Bungie(probably more to dop with EA) has WOEFULLY insufficient Servers, never mind the ineptitude of having you connect to the XBOX/PS of those around in world.......gods i cant believe they went that way with the networking.....DOOMED to FAIL. But yes, I watch netflix, play EVERY OTHER GAME I OWN ONLINE, an can even have my girlfriend playing WoW, or another PC game while I'm playing.....EXCEPT DESTINY> Hell I can, and have, literally unplugged EVERYTHING in my home except the Refrigerator my modem, router, TV and XBOX,,,,, STILL D/C from LIVE,......... FIX YOUR SHIT BUNGIE

            • I too share the same raging frustration as everyone here. had the game since release day and almost zero issues with connection. and now I cant play one day without disconnecting at least 20 times non stop. seems like ever since December and when the expansion came out is when this became an issue. it really doesn't make sense, it seems to happen the most when im patrolling or at the tower, but who knows its happened so much that I feel the whole game is going to shit. this whole thing really upsets me deeply because ive been such a huge fan of this game since bungie announced it. the disconnecting issues are literally ruing the game for me, I cant sit back and just enjoy the game anymore like I use too. im constantly paranoid of DCing. everyday I get closer and closer to just saying -blam!- IT and stop playing all together, but its so hard. bungie please...FIX YOUR SHIT!!!

              I'm getting WEASELed all the time since about middle of December. Sometimes after half an hour, sometimes I can't even make it to the tower. I've done all the networking stuff suggested, even unplugged the xbox to clear the cache etc, no better at all. Mostly strikes and story missions work a bit better, patrols are a joke though with disconnects every couple of minutes. Strange: There have been a couple days when I could play for like ten hours on end without the slightest problem whatsoever. Then the WEASEL came back. So I started running network analysis tools while playing - they never once showed a problem during the disconnects. Every other network-depending activity works flawlessly. And it is strange that Destiny doesn't just kick me to orbit, it needs to be completely rebootet from scratch (press A to start game). For the first time in my life, I was playing a game with passion, looking forward to grinding the daily bounties, hunting those exotics, loving the views and sounds and funny encounters with others. I guess the WEASEL has put an end to it. I don't even see the point in trying to log in anymore. #help #frustration #willKillWeaselsOnSight

              • BUNGIE pleaasseee find some sort of fix for this. I pre-ordered Destiny and the game worked fine for the longest time, it started messing up but I supposed I could fix it so I pre-ordered The Dark Below but now I can't play Destiny at all no matter how persistent I am I get 10 to 15 minutes of gameplay at a time. I loved Destiny but now I can't experience it anymore and I haven't been able to experience the new DLC or play with my friends since this started. PLEASEEEE Bungie do something!

                • This isn't a modem thing it's the xb1 servers I assume cause I can't play cod or destiny so I'm pretty sure it's the console just wait I guess

                • You HAVE to buy your own router. I wasn't able to play untill I ditched the Comcast router and had my own. It's their router that is the problem!!

                  • Call comcast and tell them you want to trade in your Technicolor router for their Arris router. They will tell you it's not as good/fast, but that's bullshit. Do this and you will never see another error code.
