I originally though exotic armor upgrades would give you your own exotics back with just more light and maybe a boost on your stats. I have come to learn that it's neither and that almost all the upgrades offered are significant stat rolls less.
My idea is that can we have an option for our upgrades to keep the stat rolls we already have and just get more light with the upgrade? (Can me as simple as if you hold square instead of X you can keep your own stats and still upgrade).
Thoughts, anyone?

Now my beloved heart of praxic fire is up for an upgrade and I will be taking a decent hit to discipline. My stat roll will drop from +157 to a +139. Seriously, if this is really an upgrade why can't we haw the option to keep our stat roll.
-
Now that more people are aware of this, you you think this is a valid cause for concern? I love optimizing my gear and this hurts it when trying to upgrade. And I'm assuming this will happen every time a new DLC comes out, we are all at the mercy of RNG for yet another thing.

I'm sure the game can tell which exotic is better the can can compare items. Wouldn't be too hard to put in a command to compare the two exotics (yours and the trade in exotic). Keep the higher stat roll and just bump up the light to 30/36

You're an idiot. EVERY one is better after the upgrade. You'd rather not get an upgrade? Or are you too lazy to keep playing the game normally and level up a better gun? Either way all I hear and see is complain, again.

The hunter arms was more than the one I had, sooo

I'm quite happy with re-rolling ice breaker. Starts out with more damage than was max before soooo. Probably going to re-roll armamentarium this weekend while I can.

Anyone else feel like it's more efficient to just buy or find new exotics rather than upgrading your existing one? 7,000 glimmer and an exotic shard plus the whole upgrade tree vs just a few otherwise relatively useless strange coins and the upgrade tree

My Armamentarium got a boost on all stats. One shard to upgrade it to 2.0 and one to finish the upgrade nodes. Not a huge deal. I'll have it maxed in the next day or two.

Edited by Infernal_jayed: 12/12/2014 6:25:05 PMFor example my mask of the third man has +116 intellect. The upgrades drops it to +92 Sun breakers go from 106 (old) to 87 (new/upgrade) Upgrades shouldn't make things weaker (Ignoring the light boost because that's expected to go up with this upgrade)

I didn't notice the different stats... now I have to go check mine out. :-/

Wow... Glad I read this before committing Exoticide to my armamentarium and icebreaker :/

I thought it was more of a scam that it will cost 2 Exotic Shards to upgrade an existing Exotic item at 14 Strange Coins, where Xur will sell the same item at 13 strange coins. For now I'm only upgrading the Icebreaker, then the exotics that he has no chance of selling, mostly other weapons. And I'm holding off a couple of weeks before going to upgrade crazy with armor until after I have a chance to get a few nightfall and Raids out of the way in case something drops. Then I can destroy the old powered up one for the engram to max out the new one.

It does? Sorry, I wasn't paying attention. I was too busy getting to level 31.
-
It's more of a trade apparently. My 1.0 Mask of the Third Man is ridiculously better than the 2.0 offered by Xur if you ignore the light points.

I got more stats with the "upgrade"
