Yes Destiny received some harsh reviews and deservedly so but because of their silence they cannot elaborate on what happened to the original story. Things we heard like people leaving - stories that needed to be changed but what remained was the core mechanic which is top notch. The jumping, shooting aspect of the game is well done . As someone who has done level design people don’t realize how detailed and amazing the world they built is. It takes creativity, tools and artists to bring the world to life and it’s been done in spades. Even when you play stop for a second to marvel at the mountains of Venus, the sky of the moon, the buildings of Mars they all take time to build. I do find myself frustrated some days when playing but I still play this game a lot and it keeps bringing me back day after day. What leaves me frustrated is the story nothing else, sure the re-grinding is inevitable but the story always comes back. “I don’t have time to explain why I don’t have time to explain” and “I could tell you…” and “you’re interesting, not entirely interesting” and “I have shown you benevolence guardian” and you never see her again see what I am saying. The Grimore was written before the game was changed so there are some contradictions in the dialogue. One story says Rasputin dropped the shied(which killed humanity) to save himself and the new DLC says “He still tries to protect us” which is true? I don’t know if it’s Bill Night’s voice but the speaker has crept me out since the day I met him. If you kill the heart in the “Black Garden” and “Light returns to the traveler” will he ever help us again? Will he ever speak? The Cabal “Blow up Moons and Planets that get in their way” but they don’t seem hell bent on taking over the universe. The Vex have been known to turn planets in to a machine but the traveler looks like he’s a machine internally so where is the story there? The Fallen seem like more like scavengers and only fight you when you come to take something that’s theirs or want. Story, Story, Story. The best description I heard today was this: You know nothing about “Lord of the Rings” but you’re thrown in to it in the middle of the story, what do you do? Who to trust? That’s how I feel, lost, sad, I want to meet the Exo stranger so bad! I want to see who she fights, who she was talking to etc etc. There is SO much missing and this is what troubles me the most. I know they story is out there somewhere, I wish there was more to it. Great job on everything else Bungie, I just wish it had the story of how we got here.
