Metro's SCATHING DLC review

I've never heard Destiny summed up better than: "We were going to say that Bungie had made no effort at all in any aspect of the game, but that’s not quite true. In terms of taking ruthless advantage of their fans they’ve left no corner unturned."

  • And Polygon... "The Dark Below is thin on content, and it fails to expand the scope of Destiny in any meaningful way. Bungie has adopted language from the MMO genre to describe this DLC as an "expansion," but the studio doesn't establish any legitimate claim to the term."

No review of the raid. No review of the multiplayer maps. Small mention of the new weapons and nothing else. Reviewer pretty much tells you at the start he didn't like the original destiny. So what where we going to expect? Tbh reviews are just one persons opinion. I stopped reading reviews a long time ago. Games like call of duty, who rehash the same game year on year. With 4 very weak dlc, some of which contain the same maps from previous games. Games like this can get 9s year on year from these 'reviewers'. Yet bungies first venture into something new gets surrounded by more controversy than any other game I've ever seen for using methods that the industry has been using for years.

For real. If it's just reskins and the same location graphics, then they need to just offer a 20 strike jam pack with a raid for each alien group each time plus decent story missions. Making variations on the same stuff is easy work. It's just setting up spawns and maybe writing a little dialogue. Lol, they act like they give us fresh work. Lol, then they call us lazy for not wanting to regrind gear for basically no reason other than to regrind gear. At least cod makes 4 new maps with new graphics.

Accurate review. The most dissapointing thing about the game is a total lack of story that emotoionally ties the player to the game. Our Guardian's powers conveniently come from a white orb that dropped from the sky and floats above the city. It is never talked about again. The one NPC that can talk to this white basketball of power, The Speaker, never says a word about actually speaking to it. The one thing in the universe that can scare the giant white balloon in the sky, The Darkness, is never discussed or talked about as anything other than a general concept. Btw, there is an entire city of people right below the tower. Maybe we could, I don't know, go there? Talk to citizens that arent guardians? Talk to the Traveller? Ask some of the few wooden NPCs we deal with questions or at least have them drone out pieces of story that fill out the non-existent plot? Maybe go find Toland the Shattered and have him explain some sh1t to us? In the Bad Juju quest we were sent to find pages of his journal. Maybe let us read them? How about a cut away scene showing my own original death? I mean, I WAS RESURRECTED by a dinklebot. How did I die? How come we have the tech to bring me back from the dead, but we can't make an extended sized mag for my scout rifle?

          • Andddd here's another one: "It has all the trappings of the most abusive, microtransaction laden mobile game: time gated content, infuriatingly random drops, and multiple currencies that change in importance on a whim."

          • People like that don't even like games for them it's just a job they get paid no matter what. And they only play it for like 2 hours they have no idea how it's like to be a gamer and who cares what some reviewer said online reviews are outdated it's all about youtube When was the last time you got a game because of its reviews most people see a game on YouTube for a YouTuber and say "hay that game looks cool " People just keep looking for ways not to buy the DLC If you like "love " a game you shouldn't care what people say about it

Kotaku was kinder... but still, when your product is being reviewed with "total mess" in the headline... you should probably take note, Bungie.

            • The fact that they reviewed this without doing the new Raid makes this review trash to me. A professional review would be full not incomplete. The new Raid is a significant part of the DLC and to NOT do it and THEN write a negative review is stupid and anyone who doesn't take this into account is lacking in something above their shoulders. Not saying you grum are so - but maybe you just didn't take that part as seriously as I do. I am a former journalist and I take this seriously. This review is more flawed than Destiny and that is just the truth of it. By the by, I haven't done the Raid yet - but I find the DLC marvelous. Love the new Eris stuff and newly opened territories.

            • Love it. I wonder how bungie feels whenever they look at their forums and see 100k negative posts per 1 positive post. Has to feel crappy, well I hope it feels crappy.

            • At it's core, I like Destiny a lot. I do. It's got huge amounts of potential to be a wildly successful FPS/MMO hybrid. But I cannot disagree with a single word of that review. It's entirely spot on, and I share their view about not being motivated to strive for anything as you get punished if you do. Well done article. Good form.

              • Jesus, i bet that game testing division just LOVES the new COD...who gives a shit what some idiots that cant afford to spend a little money on high graphics expansion packs. I spent 25 dollars and got all 4 when the game came out. For me that is not that outrageous. I was used to having to pay almost 45-60 dollars for COD expansion packs after all the little bells and whistles they also through in. Destiny has a much lower cost for things that other games do. With all the things this game has to offer in terms of in-game currency they could put a lot of pay as you go fees into their game, but they don't! The developers of Destiny have said in the past they are here for the gamers, they want a fair and equitable game, and if you ask me they are doing a better job than most of providing it. If it was made by whoever is making those shit COD games you can bet your ass it would be costing you whiners a lot more than it is now.

                  • LOL epic view
we haven’t finished The Dark Below in its entirety. There are two main reasons for this: 1) we’re not high enough level to play the new Raid, and 2) we don’t want to
you fail as a game when people say we just dont want to play it but seriously if bungie had any faith in its dlc it would have let reviewers have it before release and would have given them a boost to their light level so they could you know review the content

                    • ....the game’s easily tricked artificial intelligence. In fact we’d swear it’s actually got worse since we last played it, as more than once we caught bad guys just standing completely still, staring forlornly into the middle distance – which we can totally understand given the game, but if we have to make the effort at least they could too. Lol
