On the EXOTIC RESET (The Ultimate W.T.F moment we've been waiting for)

This is intended to be an open letter towards both players and devs, although the likelihood of it being taken under consideration is abysmally low. First and foremost, let me state that I've been playing DESTINY since day-one, pre-ordered the Ghost Edition and allowed myself a bit of time in its world almost every day since release. I've been a supporter of what Bungie has supposedly been trying to do with their new ip, giving it time and considering the flaws in a mild, understanding and mostly academic way: All MMOish games start weak and those that are worthwhile shine down the road. Suffice to say, I've been looking forwards to the Expansion like a child awaiting Christmas. I've lost count of how many times I've watch the trailer - complete with its very own unimaginative portraition of Crota as yet another larger generic Knight - and was delighted with the changes made in the last patch (Dec 1). That is to say, I did not realize right away why something THAT good and logical would happen to a game rooted in the idea of "hours per day/ per people playing/ per Activision stocks in various markets". The deal, it seems, was to sweeten us. They gave us a FINALLY viable way of amassing the moronic amounts of materials required to upgrade Exotic and Legendary gear so we would be less enraged when the new, MAGNIFICENT idea came around. And oh boy, was that a big turd in the face of the dedicated users! I quote the patch notes: "Upgrading an Exotic in this way will require an Exotic Shard. (That alone will cost 7K. That is about 35% of the amount you can have at any given time. Then, it's farmathon again) The upgrade will reset the progression invested into the item. ("Invested" is the word used. What a -blam!-ing joke) Each week, Xûr will possess a selection of upgrades for existing Exotics in his inventory." (Like he's been so trustworthy so far, selling Sunbreakers every other week along with those blasted Voidfangs) ... ... ... Are you people out of you GODDAMN MINDS!?! We have been running around doing stupid, repetitive bounties over and over again just to feed the gear and weapons enough XP to lvl, we've been farming for freakin' HUNDRENDS of hours for the blasted Destination Materials, we've been spending a TON of glimmer per each upgrade, we've poured THREE BLASTED MONTHS of our live's free time just to have a bloody game reset? Specific weapon will be available for upgrade WHEN Xur decides to bring about each of those blasted upgrades?! What about all the people who need the Exotic gear to get to 30? They will have to drop 2-3 lvls and start refarming all that crap! Do you think that the user base exists just to feed the -blam!-ing "hours per day" numbers? THAT'S the respect you show to the people who pay you for your product? THAT's the grant design choice? WHERE THE -blam!- DID BUNGIE GO?! I am pissed out of my mind people. I can't believe how hideously money-driven this whole thing is. And if you are naive in some way and don't understand what "money" has to do with all this, consider how important it is for the companies involved to have active, paying people in the game. More hours of pointless farming, more people online. If you want this mess to make ANY sense devs, you either give us back the materials invested, coupled with telemetries to speed up these processes or require, AT LEAST, that for any weapon to be upped it will first have to be maxed. Of course the ideal situation would be for the upgrading to go on from the current state of the gear but we couldn't have that now, could we? First way will ensure that the people who invested the time are not being awfully crapped upon (you know, the time of our lives that we could have spent playing something else or doing gardening will not be totally wasted?) whilst the second will actually even the playing field for people who will be getting the older Exotics down the way. Do I need to point out that the second idea is still shit but at least it's somewhat fair? No? Great. And PLEASE, don't give me the "it's all optional" bs line. If not upped, those hard-earned pieces of gear will be obsolete. We are forced, either to upgrade them or to ditch them altogether. I don't even know what to think anymore. The game's situation is getting messier by the day. Where did the company behind Halo go? Where did RESPECT for the players go? Do you think that by showing us photos of workspaces and adress us like ol' pals you are actually befriending us when THIS stuff hits the servers? You went in bed with the freaking devil guys, I am very sorry to say. All that matters, and it is plain as day at this point, is how many playhours the clock registers, how many people cope with all the crap that's been happening, how many "rationalize" all the RNG bs that's in place ONLY to impede progress. I have a TON of stuff to mention here but I will stay on topic. You spit on us, Bungie. You spit on our dedication, on our hard-earned money, on our -blam!-ing TIME. I'm at the edge of my patience here. I hope I am not alone. EDIT: Seems like I'm NOT freaking alone. Thank you guys. Here are a few more threads, let's spread awareness about all this bs and see if Bungie is "listening loud and clear" as they claim to. http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/82061069/0/0 http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/82305663/0/0 http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/82089048/0/0 WNxChadzors wrote: "Here's an idea? Let's give everyone at bungie a promotion but reset their pay scale to entry level. That sounds fun right Deej? • The carrot effect if wearing away from hardcore players. There's nothing we really need anymore. I'm just trying to work on getting my last character to level 32. Those who have put in 500+ hours without and not getting ghallajhorn have already given up. I gave up on fatebringer. I don't put in the time like I used to. I would come home from work and put 4-6 hours on the game doing bounties, daily, and strikes when I completed my weekly and nightfall. It was a routine I loved. Now I log in, see only 1-2 friends on, go to the tower to grab bounties, log out. I am sick of doing black garden for like the hundred time, divisive mind, 10 have major, patrol x planet, and for what? Rep? You get rank 10 dead orbit and get another commodation and 2 energy/shard. You realize weapons cost 150 crucible marks. 2 marks for a loss and 3? For a win. That is a huge crap in your cereal bowl. I finally got 150 crucible marks but already have all the weapons I need -.- Now that my friends have begun to move to other games, I find it hard to justify getting on to play.

I do like the idea from chadzor. And let the rng decide how much they get paid.

    • I made a post about how to sue them (not by the conventional means of lawsuits), bungie let it stay up for a week or so but realized since it was actually going to work bungie felt threatened and ninjad my thread and threatened me... It wasn't even deej, it was a real bungie employee. I simply don't give a -blam!- if my whole account is banned anymore You get a group of 200,000 people plus from all different parts of the world to file a 150 dollar small claims lawsuit for "unfair and deceptive business practices" against activision for using dev blogs and premature ideas as a marketing strategy to build "hype" around the sale of a video game in conjunction with buying reviews before the game is released which there is lots of evidence available to the public. They will have to hire a team of lawyers for each jurisdiction for each state/ province and country the multiple lawsuits are in. This will tie up courts for years 2-5 and they will have to pay all those lawyers, they will also be required to meet occasionally for the strongest response against the allegations which will fail due to different laws within the jurisdictions. The amount of time needed gets very costly very quick for even large corporations. This has been done against Walmart to stop or put the brakes on corporate mergers, so it's proven to work... As a legal loophole.

      • I'm going to echo the opening sentiments, though not as extreme since, in truth, reading the updates/info about the forthcoming DLC has wiped any excitement I had for it. I, too, would like to know why a weapon, we've spent weeks upgrading, has to be reset at all. It makes absolutely no sense. As a programmer, this tells me the that an upgraded weapon isn't an upgrade at all, but a completely new weapon, which means we might as well just have waited for it to drop in the RNG setting. It would have been just as effective. I'm sorry, but based on this information, I will not be upgrading any of my exotic weapons, because that's just a waste of time, especially when the entire idea is to bring our best weapons to the DLC. The other piece of news I'm not happy with is the new "commendation" level of "currency", as if glimmer and VG marks are now pretty much useless. Here's my idea for a better way to upgrade weapons: -Allow us to purchase, in increments of 10, the stats of the weapon. At 100 VG marks + 10k glimmer, boost Range, Impact, Reload, etc. -Allow us to purchase elemental damage for 200 VG marks + 20k glimmer. This one is extremely important because this way, we can take a favorite exotic and have 3 copies, each with its own elemental damage, instead of wasting it for a freaking and unnecessary shard. Who came up with the idea to use this shard design? I'm tired of having 25k/200 VG marks with nothing to buy, upgrade, or find a use for. Heck, I can't even seem to get rid of it faster than it accumulates. I purchased nearly every weapon from the VG that I wanted, and I still have currency left over. Alas, it seems Bungie's entire intent is to spread the wealth over 3 characters, but here's a news flash: not everyone playing this game wants to manage 3 characters, swap weapons, and hope that they can all be leveled up the same. The extraordinary amount of time doing this is, simply put, wasteful. I couldn't care less about having the greatest weapon or the highest level. I just want to enjoy the game. My personal favorite was trying to get my VG rating as high as possible, then decided I'd rather change the design of my character, starting from scratch. Now, she's level 5 VG and I get the feeling this new commendation is about to bite me. I know, I probably shouldn't have deleted my character, but this is what I get for trusting that "ability to upgrade weapons" as promised by Bungie came with not a string, but a chain attached. Honestly, I don't know how much longer I can endure chasing carrots or running this hamster wheel, but trust me when I say the breaking moment is so close, I doubt even a DLC (which lasts what... until April I think) can tide me over. This game has the potential of doing something great, but with the latest update and the news on how we're to "upgrade", it seems the game just took 20 steps backward. I don't mind if there are players out there who want to do nothing but grab the latest gear and weapons as fast as they can, then spend the rest of the time complaining how boring the game is. But for those of us who were playing the game as Bungie "intended", I felt the slap in the face was so hard, it actually knocked some common sense into me about what I'm doing with the game. So here's what I'd like an honest answer to, Bungie: HOW ARE WE INTENDED TO PLAY THIS GAME WHEN THE RULES CONSTANTLY KEEP SHIFTING? I'd like an answer by Saturday, please. PS: People cheezing Atheon, and having it patched to make the Raid one of the worst experiences I had in the game was marginally forgivable since developers forget the basic rule: if it can be exploited, it will be exploited. But cheezing the Templar was for one major reason only: to get the extra chest to help increase the chance of a better drop. Sure, there's the option of keeping the Templar from teleporting, but how many people play Titans in this game? Surely no where near the level of Warlocks and Hunters. If the developers are going to put easter eggs like this in the game, don't screw it up when people beat it at its own game.

        • Agreed. Have been playing since the beta and was so looking forward to some new content. Its left me feeling like we're still playing the beta with this nonsense of exotics having to be reset to bring them to the new base level. Where is the recognition of all the effort put in to leveling and completing punishing bounties and raids?

        • I absolutely love destiny. But this expansion is bullshit. They even made the weekly heroic and NF for expansion owners only. And a level 30 nightfall? 80% of destiny's players aren't even level 30. Why Bungie? Why?

        • Absolutely! I have never played a game so massively disappointing than Destiny. I was looking forward to so much and now... this. It seems like every update has no plan. Bungie is playing it by ear, putting bandaids on a massive wound that the game was shipped out with. I honestly can't believe this is the same team that worked on Halo (which is my favorite game franchise ever). I wonder if they left their better parts at 343?

At first I was pissed off too. I could not believe Bungie would operate this way. Then last night I slept on it. Thought about it. Today it almost makes sense. The Bungie guy that came up with this was thinking : " how can I keep the Grinders happy and make them grind more but let any casual new Destiny player log in Xmas morning for the 1st time and not feel 3 months behind?.... Make all new exotics a higher stat for the new player and let any older vet players (upgrade...with a crapton more resources) the old gear making grinders grind more....brilliant". Sure I'm mad. Sure I think Bungie is crazy ...crazy stupid or maybe crazy smart but still crazy. But then I realized something amazing: I can have my damn life back. I can now quit a full time Destiny schedule !! Yep after 3 months of playing (and yes having some fun) but neglecting real life I can stop playing like a hardcore grinder. I can stop farming, stop doing daily bounties and leveling up every single piece of gear, stop collecting and hoarding shards, energy and materials. I can wait Bungie out.
guess what another DLC (House of Wolves) is coming and it too will probably have a reset and new upgrades caps. And then another and so on
Well I'm not spinning in that hamster wheel. I will play smarter and not harder. I'll see you guys each Tuesday just to collect my weekly coins to save up until Xur sells the FINAL form fully maxed exotics (when Bungie quits dropping DLCs) I will wait until this beta ,...cough cough.. I mean this full content is ALL released....all the DLCs ...all the equipment is done and at it's Maximum levels ... and then maybe (MAYBE) I will make a full return and enjoy the final product. Until then stay safe guardians , I'll still visit the forums occasionally to see the news.

            • When you upgrade your exotic all of the perks will be reset.. That is true. But when you upgrade your exotic the base attack will be at 302 which is HIGHER than the max attack of its previous form. It's not that big of a deal.

Bro when you trade the gun in at XUR as soon as you get it back its already stronger then your fully upgraded old version. It will have a base attack of 302 stock with no upgrades. It then takes way less XP to upgrade and no ascendant materials. What's your problem with this? Nobody said you have to do it

                  • Let's take a look at the actual facts about this system and not get hysterical for a minute. First off, its not like everyone's exotics instantly get reset. They get reset when you choose to upgrade them. If you don't want to upgrade them then don't. They will still be plenty viable as they stand now. The increase in attack is really only going to be important for doing the hard mode which won't be here until January. Second, when they reset they are already just as powerful as they were maxed out. You will have to unlock the perks again but in reality that takes about a days worth of bounties and you're there. Also now you will have daily eris bounties tondo which will make it even faster. Third, armor is a non issue. Armor soaks up experience from everything you do. You can literally completely level an exotic armor piece in one day. So the only thing we have to really work for is the weapons. In reality, the vast majority of people in this game have maybe 5 exotic weapons at max that they use on a daily basis. Sure, you may have them all maxed out and occasionally use one here or there depending on the situation but in truth most people have one heavy, one or two specials and maybe one or two primaries that they actually use everyday if even. So you choose to level up the ones you use most first and do the rest as you see fit. But the ones you don't upgrade will still be perfectly viable options. I will agree I am not a fan of the xur factor. If his past RNG is any indication of how he will choose which gear we can level then it is going to be retarded. But if they implement a set rotation for which pieces get offered it won't be an issue. As for the fact that we put all this work into the gear and now someone who hasn't will be in the same place well tough titties. Grow up. You still got to use it at its potential for the current content which put you ahead of the pack. Am I happy that's the way it is? No. Do I think they should require you to max a piece before upgrading it? Yeah. But am I gonna throw a hissu fit on the forums because it isn't that way? No. I'm a grown ass adult and I act like one. Even when things don't go the exact way I want them to. At the end of the day, we get to scale our current gear up to the level of the new content. In most games you don't even get that option. The current gear becomes absolutely obsolete. So if I gotta put a little work in to pump my shit up then ill do it. Everyone is acting like they expected the grind to be over or something. News flash guys a, this is how its gonna be for 10 years. Weve known this since October. And no amount of qqing on the forums is gonna change that. Suck it up and put in the work to get your gear upgraded. If you don't want to, then don't do it. Go play something else or just keep using the same guns at the level they are at. Guaranteed you'll still be able to compete in the new raid day one with your gear at its current level. And for the record I am certainly not a fanboy. I have been incredibly critical of a lot of the decisions bungie has made about this game. But in the scheme of things this exotic weapon system is not even close to being as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I'm just tired of coming on these forums and seeing post after post of people getting absolutely hysterical about their exotics. Its a damn video game people.

                        • If I were them I'd have thrown 4 more damage nodes on the end, and let us continue from there, even if two of the nodes required exotic shards. It would still be better than that idea. I hate moving backward to go forward, and I loathe double handling In any case Gjallarhorn is going to be leveled first.

                        • Weapons start out doing more damage, and upgrade faster according to what has been said. Also you have no need to upgrade anything unless you are going to do the hard raid in January. This is a much more minor deal than it seemed initially, and I think people will chill out when they actually see how it will work, and realize there current guns/armor work effectively in the new content. For those that do the hard raid, I can see why you'd be upset. Hopefully when they say the weapons upgrade faster its twice as fast or more, so you can actually upgrade it within a day without using multiple characters.
