We know that the buffs to several exotic weapons have been taking a very long time. Seemingly way too long for Bungie to just be shifting numbers around. Plus, communications from Deej get frustrating because he implies things are coming sooner than they are. But perhaps this is because the dev team has been taking longer than they thought themselves. Maybe they thought they were just going to patch the exotics, but by now they've decided to overhaul them completely.
What's the evidence? In the last update Deej promised,
Exotic weapons that are stronger and more interesting to upgrade
Now "stronger" is straightforward enough, but why would he say "more interesting to upgrade"? Why that choice of words?
Is it just that the existing unique exotic upgrades will get interesting buffs? That seems unlikely given Deej's language. That could just come under "stronger" or would be more naturally stated as "more interesting upgrades". Why say they're more interesting to upgrade?
My theory and hope is that this patch is taking so long because they are overhauling the exotic weapons' upgrade trees. I suspect that they are turning the unique upgrades into a tree like the jump, super, and melee class trees where you can choose one of three augmentations. If they add one or more of these "trees" it would allow people to play their exotics the way they choose, in effect making the guns more special and personal.
This seems to align with Bungie's philosophy on this topic, would explain the long wait we've been enduring, and matches most closely to Deej's words. What do you think?

U guys need to stop micro-analyzing everything people from Bungie say. Its just going to twist your panties when they dont give you what you misconstrued as being in the game.
