Indications of a SKILLED level 30.

Let me set up a hypothetical scenario here. Let's say you've decided that you'd like to create a team to attempt to be the first to complete the new upcoming raid. Obviously you're going to want some skilled players, what sort of skill indicators would you use? Would you just take anyone? Take any level 30s? Or would you look for some sort of indications of skill? Within earlier periods of the game, being level 30 was a viable way of gauging someone's skill level in the game which made it easier when trying to find decently skilled players to play with. Now that level 30 has become child's play, it's no longer possible to use it as a skill indication and as such we have to use other methods to determine a players skill level so please, don't take offence when hearing the term "Skilled level 30". I'm not saying you don't deserve it, im just using it a skill gauge. Therefore I present to you what I look for in a SKILLED level 30: Indications that someone is a SKILLED level 30! 1. Should have at least 10 hard mode raid completions! (This ones important, skill is grown from experience and as such having a number of raid completions is much more impressive than getting a full set of raid gear in 1 or 2 raids) 2. Must be able to solo the gatekeeper portals. (If you can't do this you need to get better. As soon as someone suggests weakening the gatekeepers first or doing one portal at a time I am immediately aware of their incompetence) Thats not to say you must solo the portals every time. The method I use is heavily dependant on the team im playing with. 3. Should have at least 5 different types of maxed weapons, with a variety of elemental damage and understand when and where each gun will outperform others in order to give themselves a situational advantage. Im sick of seeing level 30s still running nothing but suros, especially during Atheon. Tbh that's all there is to it. I don't care if you are wearing a piece of iron banner gear, as long as you meet these requirements you'd be on my fire team. Do you have any indications of skill that you like to look for?

  • If you're looking for someone to actually be the first to complete a brand new raid with new mechanics, you'll be looking for people that have completed the raid with no prior knowledge. You'll want a skilled survivor and creative thinker. It doesn't matter how well you can complete the same thing over and over after its been spelled out to you. You'll want someone who can come up with new ways of beating things. You'll want a person with multiple classes that completed the raid beginning to end in different raid parties (i.e. filling different roles each time). You'll want a person that finished in the first week of the raid without having an experienced raid member telling them how to do it. You'll want a team player that is flexible and versatile, more so than just someone who can follow a how-to guide.
Let me set up a hypothetical scenario here. Let's say you've decided that you'd like to make a forum post to attempt to be the first to show you're the biggest moronic douche this side of the mississippi. Obviously you're going to want some arbitrary complaints, what sort of shallow points would you use? Would you just use any whine? Take any low remarks? Or would you try to list every reason why everyone and their mother should ignore you? Within earlier periods of the forum, complaining on the forums was a viable way of gauging someone's stupidity in posting which made it easier when trying to find inteligent posts to read. Now that complaining has become child's play, it's no longer possible to use it as a indication and as such we have to use other methods to determine a posters shallow ignorant thought process so please, don't take offence when hearing the term "good forum poster". I'm just saying you don't deserve it, and that I'm insecure in my own ability to play with other people who don't fit my style of gaming. Therefore I present to you what I look for in a douchebag forum poster: Indications that someone is a DOUCHEBAG forum poster! 1. Should have at least 1 baseless level 30 claim! (This ones important, Ignorance is easy and as such having a no other forum posts tells you the quality of my opinion and that it stinks worse than rotting cow dung on a summer day) 2. Must be able to alienate the majority of the forum community in one post. (If you can't do this you need to insult players directly. As soon as someone suggests people play the game for fun or helping people play the game better I am immediately aware of their superior opinion and choose to ignore it) Thats not to say you must spew hate every time. The method I use is heavily dependant on being passive agressive and categorizing people in pointless ways. 3. Should have at least 5 different types of arrogance, with a variety of elitists comments and understand when and where each shallow insult will outperform others in order to give themselves away as a colassal dick. Im sick of seeing good natured people still trying to enjoy the game, especially when playing during the parts i play in and they should be serious and unhappy. Tbh that's all there is to it. I don't care if you are a nice person enjoying a game on their free time, as long as you meet these requirements you'll display the level of your character immediately when you post unsupported hate about other people. Do you have any indications of idiots that you like to look for?
Took the liberty of translating your post for you. o7

    • Yea mine is stick to a solid raid team (my main five players i started with n have been sticking with) I honestly think even with all "skilled" players still need to wor well together, it only takes one to ruin the flow. Once you establishes what works in the new phases of th new raid it'll be easier with randoms.♡♡

      • Soloing the portals can be done by anyone and only shows how arrogant and selfish one can be. Weakening the gatekeepers and killing them simultaneously is more profitable and safer for the team to finish the checkpoint without trouble. A "skilled level 30" should be someone who is adept at helping the team as a whole get through the checkpoints quickly and efficiently. Not someone trying to be a hero and outperform everyone else. The raids were not designed with that mindset, they were made for team work and group coordination.
Wrong. It was a way of gauging someone's luck with the RNG over others. Your other points are a little better tho. The only real way to gauge someone's actual skill is to just take a minute to look at their stats, experience, and find out if they have the correct weapons that have been proven to work well in the raid.

            • At no point was being level 30 a valid way to gauge skill. It may indicate luck or perseverance and dedication at best but in no way does it indicate skill. I have three level 30s and finished the hard raid tons, but in the end luck is how I got the armor not skill.

              • Reasonable list, though I would challenge item 1. I have only 2 hard mode raid completions and 4 (I think) normal. I am also still level 29 (so not strictly the audience of your list) but have sufficient skill and ability to work as a team that providing there are three level 30s in the team (only really needed for gatekeeper / Atheon part, I got to gatekeeper with 6 29s with little difficulty, just patience and the odd self res) it takes maybe 80-90 minutes to clear hard mode raid. Difficult to see how you do it much quicker without cheesing your way through (though some inevitably can if you always play with the same group). Do I know the raid as well as many many other people? No. Am I more useful to the team than a number of 30s I've payed with who are either too cocky and cause wipes or worse yet try to overrule the leader and go off to do their own thing anyway ...100% yes! This is partly why I'm fine as a 29 still and didn't iron banner my way to 30. There are enough 30s out there who recognise a few good 29s are more valuable than some 30s. If you invite me to a hard raid and I die while the spire is forming, kick me, fair enough. Otherwise lets just crack on and collect our weekly shards!! PS - this WILL be the week I get my gauntlets ... I can feel it!!!

              • there really isnt a way of seeing a persons real worth until you play with them during a Hard Vault run. its all about trusting that each and every individual can handle their job. if that 1 person dies over and over always shorting your team a player that eventually turns into a wipe. then clearly that person isnt very valuable as a Hard runner. i run Hard mode with my 3 brothers, with me included that makes 4 of us with 2 others from friends list. we dont even do normal runs. we go straight to hard mode first thing on Tuesdays reset. we can run it all the way to Atheon and beat it without a single wipe. depending on which 2 people we invite to help fill a 6 man team. we've even so much as ran it with just us 4 brothers because we didnt have anyone else to invite. and we've beaten it with just us 4 guys once or twice before. the reason why we can run Hard mode so smoothly because each and every single one of us knows our roles. and where to go and how to cover and play. ~im on PS3. and im inviting anyone else whose on PS3. if you wanna witness a team of Players who can literally carry you through Hard Vault in 1 sitting. give me a shout if you are ever looking for a team of Real Raiders. depending on my Brothers if they are willing, we may even be able to help you and others run Hard mode. its just that clearly since we've all cleared Hard mode and wont get rewards.they might not be so opt to help other people do theirs.

                  • A truly skilled player can take a group of people into the raid for the first time and walk out having completed it. (Now these people have to be somewhat capable but not gunslinging prodigies). Leadership is the paramount determinant of skill in my opinion. A skilled player not only shines but makes those around them shine.

                  • Want to know if a player is skilled? Make them solo a Conflux, without dying on hard.. (You know, the ones before oracles?) thats one great test I use before inviting players to my clan. Everything you said is also a good indicator. I would say +30/40 hard runs is a better indication of skill as I've met players with +20 completions that had no clue how to use the relic, or how to solo a portal. Also, ask players about the Templar Strategy and see if they can give you a legitimate answer. Also ask what their setup is, and why they use it. Hope this helps.

                    • Makes sense but I think the soloing portals part is kind of dumb. I mean, I CAN sole them but it's just quicker and safer to have a second person with me so I bring someone.

                      • Yay I'm skilled :) but I think a important thing is having more than one character that's 29 or up. This would mean you could run everything with 3 characters and it would give you experience with how all the characters work.

I just wish they'd have a ranking system already. The world of gaming is so extraordinarily competitive that I think we would all benefit from a visual system that ranked guardians in 3 aspects of this game: Strike rank Crucible Rank Raid Rank There should be Clan ranking as well that could potentially spike the number of guardians banding together to fight for a common cause. This would get rid of all these "real" "fake" accusations. Elitist would be proven or shown as frauds. It would give people a reason to play to the best of their potential game in and game out and would do away with AFK. Just a wishful idea

                            • Or you could look at their PvP stats... Seriously if they can excel in PvP then they have grasped the controls and are able to determine when to commit or disengage from a fight. Hitting difficult targets in PvP makes PvE a joke, it's funny to see just how slow people with low k/ds switch from precision spot to precision spot on targets, if they hit it at all. They will sit in high danger zones, fall off the edge, and then not reload all their weapons in the shield bubble. TLDR: Good PvP players always translate into good PvE players, same can't be said the other way around.
