I can ring steel at 100 yards with rifled slugs. I can knock down poppers at 25 yards with the right choke and load. Shotguns are good farther out than that.
-
True, and rifles are way more accurate and way more jumpy. I can hit "headshots" on a life size silhouette at 500 yards very consistently with an M4. That's using it like a scout rifle. Single fire. If you've never fired a real gun on burst or full auto you have no idea how hard that crap is to control. I unloaded about a hundred rounds using the 3 round burst on my M4 and its God awe full jumpy. I had another Marine with his hand on my back leaning into me while I fired at a target 25 yards away. It's flipping hard. I've also fired several hundred rounds from a squad automatic weapon (m-249 SAW). It's full auto and jumpy as hell when fired from the shoulder or hip, so of course the realism with our Destiny assault rifles is a bit wonky. That's standing completely still and focused: Not sprinting and sliding and jumping around like a cracked out jackrabbit. I'd like to see Titans with improved stability (armor and servos reduce recoil), hunters with improved accuracy (training makes sense, but no extra servos so stability is still an issue), and warlocks with improved awesomeness via damage/impact modifiers (adding elemental damage to the weapon). Make the weapons more... Crunchy! My 2 centavos.

Lol and it would only take one bullet from any rifle to drop anyone. Not half a magazine. I'd love to take my 84 mag epilogue into crucible if one or two bullets could kill another player like they would in real life. Sadly, that would be unbalanced for a videogame. And we can all be thankful that we are playing in an imaginary setting and not living in a real war zone.

I feel like this is some foolish attempt at defending shotguns on this game...
-
Shotguns are fantastically more effective in real life than in Destiny. Funnily enough, I've found that one of the games with the most realistic damage/range model for shotguns is a game that prides itself on it's ridiculousness, Tripwire Entertainment's Killing Floor
-
Most people would not own shotguns...or any form of gun...and people would not be running around throwing balls of void balls or smashing the ground..... So the game is broken...?
-
You'd be getting 1 shotted from 30 feet away.
Right, because this entire game is based on how things really work...
-
Well, you have to take in account of shields, armor, and bungies nerf.
-
Lol if any other guns worked like they did it real life it'd be crazy... People be sniping each other with assault rifles from across the map... You wouldn't be able to get 30 ft from someone
-
Lololololololololololololololololololol
-
I could tell you...
-
Give me slug rounds!
-
This is destiny. We have space wizards, various alien races, a giant floating orb thing that's basically a god, a talking inverted rubix cube, guns that shoot lighting and lasers and hover bike things. This is not real life.

- A simple Vortex Grenade would simply eradicate the entire planet. - A scorch melee would cripple a person from the inferno - The Golden Gun would be impossible to use as the gun and bullets would melt in your hand from the heat - The Bladedancer could simply be shot down - The cryptarch would be thrown off the Tower - Every time you'd tumble from the Sparrow, you'd break your legs - Certain helmets would obstruct your field of vision way too much to be functional - You wouldn't need another guardian to helps your ghost revive you
-
If teabagging worked like it does in real life. You would feel completely awkward.
-
The Slug shell acts like a bullet it can hit a target further away
-
yep, and maybe further depending on what Shells you use. shotguns are useless in PvE thanks to crybabies.
-
Not when you have over shields. Which is the issue I have with this game. 2 shot fine. 1? From 15 feet away? Na.
-
How would they fire on the moon with no oxygen to fuel the gun powder? How would they not melt on venus?
-
Really depends on the shells you use.
-
I'll be honest, I would NOT like to take a shotgun attack from 30 feet away especially since there are different gauges which have different ranges.
-
Not to mention we'd have a lot of guardians in slings from dislocated shoulders.
-
Well, perhaps not in the armor that Guardians wear, but with the armor soldiers wear today- yes.
-
and an auto rifle hit would also kill you
-
I've always wondered why they did this in most games, but reading through some of the comments here kinda explains it. Off the top of my head the Rainbow Six series is about the only game I can think of that comes pretty close to representing the stopping power and effective range of the available firearms.

That's only 10 yards.... A shotgun packs plenty punch much farther than that...
