For those of you judging someone on K/D

You don't know how this game works. It's about teamwork and scoring points and securing those objectives. That's how you win. You can get 10 kills and 0 deaths, or 20 kills and 4 deaths, but if your team doesn't work toward that objective then you will lose every single match. Destiny is a game about points, not k/d. The guy with 10 kills who takes over zones can score more points than you with 17 kills. Learn to play kids. Remember children: "A player with 5000 points and a k/d of 0.7 is more valuable to the team than one with 2300 points and a k/d of 4"

I'm sorry OP, you cannot state the exception to a rule and pass it off as universal truth. I have played hundreds of crucible matches between my three characters. I believe my teams have won maybe 10 games while going negative K/D, and several of these games the K/D was almost even. These maybe 10 games involved matches in which we held two points the vast majority of the time, and received the bonus points from supers/heavy weapons/multi-group captures. I do understand your point: If you are a team player, get plenty of assists, and generally help the team, it really does not matter if you have a negative K/D. While that is true, this same "team player" cannot carry a match like those with high K/D's can. My K/D on my Warlock is maybe top 20% in the world, but my K+A/D ratio is very likely top 10%. I'm good, but not great and I remember this when I'm in a match and discover a team mate who can take on two-on-ones by himself. I stay close to this player and support them the best I can. The main problem with FPS PVP, is that everyone is trying to be the guy who can carry the team. This is simply impossible as this can change from match-to-match based on skill/spawns/internet connection/luck (i.e. timing). Edit: Spelling Errors

  • I was in an argument about this last night. Someone posted about getting 40 kills in ib and still lost and i said it was about controlling flags. Needless to say some goon thought i was wrong and only kills matter. Some people just don't get team work..

  • In other games, sure, in destiny? Not at all. Going under a 1.0 K/D is harmful to your team and you do more damage than good. Sure, you capped that flag, but gave the other team 100-200+ points every time you died trying to take it while you only earned your team 75. Skill isn't taking objectives, it's holding them and earning more points than you're giving the other team. If you have a negative K/D that means you're just throwing yourself on the objective and costing your team far more points than you're earning. A good player can capture an objective, hold the objective, and keep a consistently positive K/D the entire game

  • You are an idiot my friend, people like you justifying being bad as actually having skill is getting really old. I've been in plenty rooms where I get 25+ kills and 8+ caps and lost. Reason is you have 4 guys (like you) who keep rushing in getting killed over and over trying to capture a point. If those idiots would just not die so much we would win. I agree you need to cap but this isn't a traditional domination/control it's just a multiplier. If you go .50 and 5 caps and are at the bottom of a losing team you ARE trash end if story.

Ur dumb..... Defending a capture point from a little distance or enemys didnt reach the point will give u no defence Bonus.... I was playing venus defending c runnin 19/0 with like 2,5k points and was still more effective then my mates runnin brainless into 3... Otherwise if i pop my super (bladedancer) kill 4 near capture point will give atleast 800 points and all I did was beeeing effective 10 seconds. P.s. U can play offensiv or defensiv its your decision but dont tell other how they have to play

  • Okay. So this seems to come up over and over. Control is about getting kills. It's NOT about capping the territories. All the territories do is MULTIPLY the amount of points that you get per kill. In theory, a team could easily win while only holding one territory the entire game.

    • Exactly, and this why I have lost matches, due to people thinking that it's okay to just run around the points instead of capping and defending them.

    • I prefer teammates with high kills and low captures, in a win it means we got our points and kept them. While the other team died wave after wave. That's how you play control. If you run around dying and capping points your doing nothing but flipping spawns douche.

    • I can almost guarantee you that the team with the more kills and higher K/D ratio wins an IB game. It's a lot less objective based than it seems like.

I got 7200 in IB with 40 kills and a K/D of 4.44 with no flag captures with second place and 10 captures at only 4500 I think ... And your telling me almost 2/6 of the entire needed score to win earned through nothing but killing is not worth it or does not matter? >.>

    • One game I had a .37 KD. A few matches later I had a 3.7 KD. KD is a momentary number. There are too many variables to make it a steady skillguide. - Does the player play a lot? - Does the player get kills stolen? - Does the player steal kills? - Does the player play objectively or for kills? - Does the player hog powerweapons? - Does the player join mid-game of a losing/winning team? - Does the player camp? - Does the player lag? - Does the player have luck to play in good teams? - Does the player play to win, for fun or for bounties?

    • My team won a game by holding one control point. You know how? We don't suck. K/D was through the roof. K/D matters more than pretty much anything statwise.

    • My friends and I win games all the time (in control) by capping one flag and going on killing sprees to even out and eventually over do the other team's points.

    • I normally average anywhere between .94-1.78 kd. But yesterday I was busy playing the new Pokemon, sitting in the spawn while my team carried me. XD killed any moron who thought I was afk. Wound up with a 5.0kd at the end of the game. Best kd in the lobby. Bahaha.

    • If you have a lot of objective points but a negative K/D you're probably the reason to why you lost. Why you ask? Because you've ran around and traded objective all game, inevitably resulting in more deaths for both yourself and your team mates. Get two, park your ass and wait for the enemies. That's how you win (give or take games where you are going in with 6 good players and you could win blindfolded).

    • Honestly control areas are helpful but kills are the real point-bringers. So yeah. KD matters. If you suck you're damaging your team.

    • The last thing I like is some talking shit about another's K/D I remember when I was playing black ops 2 years ago or less was it and someone came at me for my K/D said I sucked and you should stop playing and I ended up telling them off since then though I rarely played competitive gameplay for fun.

    • This should read "Hey guys! I got burned because my KDR sits around .28 but I'm the one helping us win because every time we have two flags, I'm the only one who caps the third! That's an extra 100 points each time!!! You al need to learn to play and stop worrying about the insane amount of points I'm giving the other team and enjoy the random spawns!"

    • The best way to increase your team score is to get kills. This is true for both sides. If all you do is die, you're helping the opposing team to win. K/D matters.
