How much I hate material farming.
I have 3 raid gear pieces and an exotic armor piece, in other words I have the means to get to level 30. BUT my helmet and exotic armor piece are new, but I havent upgraded them yet because I just hate farming for damn materials (spinmetal, spirit bloom, relic iron, filaments) so much that I can't be bothered to get to level 30. I even have the neccessary amount of shards to do so, chest and material farming is so boring and time wasting that I just won't do it. For god's sake find another way for us to upgrade armor bungie, Deej, whoever.
Edit: lots of great feedback, i understand it is a part of mmos but I'm questioning that in itself, why should an aspect of a game be tedious and boring?

1 ReplyDeej hinted in one of his posts that materials will be dropping from enemies also shortly. I have no idea what the % rate drop will be though but it is another option than chest farming, which I welcome.

I'm the same way, I actually only play once a week now, just doing the weekly/raid and that's it, I'm done farming. For me it was fun at first but now I don't want to put any more hours into farming, it will take me 400 spirt bloom to max my gear but sorry bungie, you need to work on another way.

if you have a medium well run, you get 100-150 mats per hour. this is enough for 2 weapon/armor but a full hour farming is boring as sh*t. so they could invent boss rewards: if you kill the nexus you'll get 10-20 spirit blooms or so. would make strikes better and the whole farming more interesting.

Having to farm relic iron right now for my mythoclass and found verdict. Was running my route last night and kept having asshats come in and start their rotations which screwed it up for both us. I can't even try to cave in and join their circuit because there's always another person there conflicting the circuits. Material farming wouldn't be as bad if we could just get into a zone solo.

I loathe the mat farming. Imo, they put that stuff in games due to a lack of content. Something to keep up busy. When in reality, it's the reason I'll stop playing games...

Trying to get gear for 3 toons to 30 is annoying enough, and when you actually do, you get to grind the xp, mats & glimmer that hardly acquired at all while acquiring gear. It would be different if it was "mining" or some type of in game mission. Whoever thought running in circles with mobs who cant even take ur shield down, collecting mats would be "fun" should be fired.

1 ReplyI completely upgraded 3 raid pieces from scratch in just a few hours yesterday for my hunter. Just grin and bear it. Stop letting your friends down by still being that 29 who wants in every hard raid. Learn the good routes, adapt and overcome.

1 ReplyI can totally see why you would hate farming Askrigg I myself did it really relaxing and fun (unless sprit von for sone reason) it is honestly one of the things that keeps me playing the game. In Warcraft I preferred the mining and crafting side as well though

Yea I'd have to agree. I have a few guns that can be fully maxed out already. But I just can't stand running in that circle for an hour

5 RepliesTry 3 character with their own multiple armor sets and weapons. I find spirit bloom & helium hard to find because when i get on, everyone's taking them all. And there seems to be less spawn spot of helium than other materials.

I hate material farming too but I think I hate it even more when the area I'm farming gets traffic. Relic and helium iron in specific. I'll be on my 3rd lap and then 3 new people trickle in doing their own route and then there's 4 people competing. No one ever syncs up. If I come into a spot and see a person farming I follow them to not -blam!- up the chest spawns. Spinmetal is the easiest to farm imo.

30 minutes in the right area loop on patrol gets me about 100 material, regardless of the type. It's not that bad, you just have to get used to the spawns. search online, plenty of youtube vids

I like it. It's sort of like a scavenger hunt. Once you know where most nodes spawn in an area you can just run a circular route and collect mats fast.

Why should they give you anything for free? Put in some work and learn to appreciate what you have. You don't need to do everything in one fell swoop now. Try only gathering enough mats to upgrade one slot a day instead of going for broke and upgrading the entire thing at once.
