The Gaming Industry is toxic

Seriously with all of them rushing games before Christmas and not even fixing bugs until weeks later.

  • The solution is simple. Stop buying their games and consoles. PC has a lot of great developers, and Nintendo has good quality control and will refuse to release games unless they're complete. Then there's some small, cheap games for phones, an emulators galore. Don't preorder, don't buy games that block reviews, don't buy anything that has a lot of bugs (not until the developer fixes it), and don't buy anything with Day 1 DLC. There will still be a ton of good games left after this, and you arguably won't miss out on anything important anyways.

        • This is another reason Rocksteady is great. They delayed Batman: Arkham Knight from October of this year to June of next year so that they could make sure that the game was as best as it could be. That's dedication.

          • There are set release dates for games. Unfortunately, due to the technology and programming/developing required to run these games, many of them have issues. Sometimes, developers don't always spot all exploits, glitches and bugs in their games. These are usually patched later with updates now. Also, online multiplayer games can't always handle the capacity of players on their servers. Do you or anyone else have any idea the knowledge and skills it takes to create games these days? Not only that, but maintaining them is also difficult with added content and expansion packs. I disagree that the gaming industry is toxic. However, I will say that more games need to have the beta version released for players to enjoy. Not only would it help developers figure out issues with their game, it would also give people a glance at the game. It's like advertising and critiquing at the same time. The connectivity issues shouldn't be issues though. I understand that it takes a lot of hard work to maintain solid servers, but after a couple months, I believe it should be fairly close to 100% reliable. Initially though, I expect issues and don't blame anyone for that. Despite what I stated above, I will say that many games could be considered a Skinner box. Take Destiny for example. We do the same things we've already done over and over again, hoping for a reward. Sound familiar? Some developers actually do this on purpose to keep players playing. They probably want this because they will eventually make more money off of consumers by providing more content and/or extra activities. This new content will eventually be played over and over again, like the old content. That's the only aspect of modern day games I would consider to be "toxic", though I wouldn't use that word. I would simply say addicting. I have no problem with this though. I enjoy playing all video games. Video games are fun, relieve stress, and take our minds off of things.

              • I'd say the industry is deteriorating in integrity, the gaming community at large is what's toxic.

                • I think the next renaissance of gaming is going to come when the technology is readily available for about anyone to build a reasonably good looking game with a tiny ass budget. Then we'll have mad indie games and the good ones will rise to the top.

                • Many industries go through this phase one they hit a certain critical mass. You're essentially seeing first hand the transition from passionate niche developers to mainstream but less skilled career programmers.
