THORN Nerf? Seriously?
Weren't they going to give Thorn a little buff? I mean seriously...the Thorn DoT has been nerfed to do 3 Dmg 4 times now (which is what it used to hit on a blade dancer) down from 7 Dmg 4 times.
Thorn was my favorite gun to use and now it is almost useless. Anyone know anything about the reasoning behind this? I was almost always the only one using Thorn in each Crucible match. And it's not like it was in favor PvE side..
Anyone know anything or have comments on this?

Don't worry. It'll get fixed the [i]second[/i] the Iron Banner event finishes. I wonder which weapons will be "accidentally" nerfed for the next PvP event. "We accidentally lowered the Invective's rate of fire to half of what it is currently! Pardon our dust! We're working around the clock to correct the problem, but it should be fixed within a week or so! Now excuse us while we go insta-patch more "problems" while taking months to fix the ones people complain the most about!"

29 RepliesAll you butt hurt people are just people with less skill who use it in PvP. Learn how to win an actual firefight. The gun needs a buff for PvE only. DoT is the stupidest thing for PvP, it's a broken mechanic having DoT, much like instant overshields from certain moves (not talking supers) in PvP. It equates no skill. They really need to figure out how they are going to improve Thorn for PvP without making it asininely OP in PvP, I've run around with it (mines maxed) it's borderline OP now (prior to today). Basically meaning they improve it much it'll break PvP completely.

3 RepliesAre you sure the dot tick was 7 damage? I thought it was too, but Deej said the tick is "now 3, down from 5". Is he trying to pull a fast one, or does he really not know it was 7? Or are we wrong? I'll have to watch some recorded footage and find out for sure. How hilarious would it be if they "returned" the damage to 5 when really it was 7 damage per tick.

If you read the newest news post it tells you my was accidental and they're still planning on buffing it

1 ReplyHave you been using it in iron banner? Are you below level 30? Damage reduction will happen in IB...... They are still buffing thorn and bad juju and the vex before the dlc comes out :)

3 RepliesKeeping in mind that this topic is three days old. They've confirmed that the "Nerf" is actually a bug. I've told people before who think that adjusting the damage is a simple matter of going into the source code and retyping number that it's not that simple. The Thorn "Nerf" a prime example of what happens when you adjust the code and don't watch for unintended shifts in the system. That simple "patch" of including a voice chat or any of the other changes affects some so wildly unconnected such as the Thorn DOT damage which had nothing to do with Voice Chat or architectural changes. Coding is not as easy as you make it out to be.

4 RepliesI've been lvling up my Thorn for the past couple of days in prep for IB and nearly had it ready just had to put the mats into the last 3 dmg. But after reading about how bungie "dun fuk'd it up" again I didn't even bother. Right when I was really getting a feel for the Thorn and appreciating it bungie snatches it out of my hands, shits on it taco bell style then returns it by rubbing it in my face.

I agree the 3 damage is bull crap. the mark of devourer is basically useless in crucible. We asked bungie to just increase the reload speed or magazine size, but no lets just nerf it. Lets do the opposite of what would make people like it more. It would make it OP. There is some other exotic weapons that could get nerfed. Why the thorn it seems like they want everybody to hate it. It is still my favorite gun during missions and heroic challenges, but in crucible it is so much harder to kill somebody. I could go on major kill streaks just uses my thorn. Plus its not like hand cannons are really favored in pvp anyway, so don't make really bad for the people who can use hand cannons and own everybody else who is using assault rifles. They better fix this pretty quick, because I'm gonna be really mad if they don't.

It's a shame, really is. When you grind for an Exotic Bounty and have it nerfed it really does take the fun, time and effort out of the game.

It was unintentional. Something about conflicting code or whatever... I don't know. I can't possibly see how changes to a game mode/event's code can affect a weapon's code, but I don't know enough about coding to contest it.

used the thorn just now in IB. cant kill at least two gauardians with one magazine. i need to reload every guardian i kill. this wasnt the case before. this "accidental" nerf of the thorn exactly before the IB starts is kinda suspicious. for one, the "accidental" nerf is kind of impossible unless at least one person in bungie WANTS a nerf of the thorn. i was also hoping it would be fixed before the week ends [spoiler]they accidentaly nerf the thorn. they promised a buff for thorn and bad juju. if the nerf is accidental, why cant they "accidentaly" BUFF those weapons already.[/spoiler]
