VoG SECRETS: I'm wondering About Gorgons... IWHBYD

Foreword I love that I've got so many likes for this topic, but please, guys. If you only "like" it, it will get buried in the forums. Leave me a comment to keep us up top! Thank! =) PART ONE Could there be a secret unlocked by killing the Gorgons in a particular order, a la IWHBYD? Sorry ladies and gents, no way to TL:DR this one. It needs to be exhaustive, or need not be done at all. Only the die-hards, try-hards and intelligent, open-minded Guardians need attempt to read and proceed. Forgive spelling and grammar mistakes, as there may be many. It's late... or early, depending on your perspective, and I've been interrupted many times by work and co-workers. Lol While it's been quietly mentioned here and there in the middle of a few threads here on the forums, I've not seen the questioned genuinely answered. IWHBYD was a seven-step code entered into what basically amounts to a seven sectioned interface. Only four of the seven rings are used to activate the secret easter egg. Bungie's favorite numbers are entrenched deeply into the lore of the many universes that they've created; 3 and 7. 7 rings, 7 steps with only FOUR rings used? Why four? 7-4=3, perhaps. In any case, with Bungie I don't believe in coincidence. People have said killing ALL of the Gorgons is impossible, as they begin re-spawning after a certain period, which people claim to be anywhere from 15 to 40 seconds; no one can seem to agree on the exact elapsed time between a Gorgon's death and its re-spawning. People have also claimed (errantly) that only ONE Gorgon can be killed, because the second becomes immune. I have never encountered this immunity. I've personally been on a team that's killed two (we didn't try for more than this, as we weren't intent on hunting secrets, only completing the raid) and multiple sources have posted YouTube videos attesting to the fact that this is not true by killing as many as 5 Gorgons, if I remember correctly. However, this immunity issue DOES point to the idea that they MUST be killed in a particular order. That some people have encountered this immunity and others have not, perhaps suggests that those encountering the Gorgon immunity simply have not killed them in the correct order? Perhaps those who have been able to surmount the growing strength and health of the remaining Gorgons after having killed some have just been lucky enough to kill them in the correct order, at least in part? I'd try to figure this out my self, but I don't have a group nearly strong enough to kill as many Gorgons as is necessary. I'd love to be part of such a team, if ever one could be put together. =) However, there are some questions that would best be answered so as to limit the possible permutations needed to adequately test the theory: How many Gorgons actually inhabit the maze? Need a CONFIRMED number. Are there any names Gorgons, or Gorgons that otherwise have individual qualities that identify them apart from the others? Do they change orbits/paths, do the paths intersect and/or do the Gorgons change places in the order (as seen from above, oriented beginning to end or end to beginning of the maze), for example the 5th and 6th Gorgons swapping positions while orbiting on their programmed paths? How many Gorgons CAN be killed AT MOST? To figure this out, someone with good observational and math skills will be an absolute requirement. We need to see how much damage CAN be done under ideal circumstances to a Gorgon (Hitting the weak point with whatever weapon will do the absolute highest alpha damage, combined with how much damage can be done in the shortest amount of time under ideal circumstances, i.e. Hitting the weak point EVERY TIME), we need figure out a finite quantity to attribute to the health of the initial Gorgon, and then again for every Gorgon AFTER that up until the last Gorgon in the maze. Is the health/resistance increase every time you kill a Gorgon PERMANENT, or does it return to normal after the Gorgon re-spawns? Does the Gorgon's kill timer get shorter per Gorgon you kill, and does this reset with the Gorgon's re-spawn? When the Gorgons re-spawn, does the new Gorgon take the place of the Gorgon that was killed, or does it assume the position nearest to the re-spawn point or does it beeline to the position that the vanquished Gorgon held prior to death? Is the time it takes a Gorgon to re-spawn static, or are there conditions that make it shorter or longer (i.e. Killing them in a certain order. If it DOES change, ESPECIALLY based on the order in which they are killed, it almost DEFINITELY points to a secret)? Now for some indirectly related questions, yet possibly interconnected and could be relevant: You'll notice that there are 7 natural notes on a musical scale: A, B, C, D, E, F and G. Bungie's favorite number. It makes sense that music may play a role in their newest and most well kept secret. Perhaps the Gorgons' positions in the maze correspond the notes on a musical scale, and the notes played by either the spire, the Oracles or a combination of both tell us what order to kill the Gorgons in? How many notes are there in the tone played when the spire is formed perfectly? How many notes are played when the Oracles spawn/ are destroyed? WHAT notes are played (i.e. A, G, B etc)? Are the notes played in the same order each time, regardless of circumstance? Do any notes repeat? If so, which notes? PART ONE --------------------------------------------------- TO BE CONTINUED

  • I can promise you there is no secret. These people that placed these awesome Easter Eggs in other Bungie games? Don't work there. Aren't allowed to put easter eggs (Bobby Koticks schedules) I'm afraid you're wasting your time dude... Wonderful ideas, but honestly just a waste. Put together a theory for GoT for me, you're good at them

  • I went in with a 4 man team on normal we went to the big circle area in the back of the maze and killed one then waited the nearest one that has a triangle patrol came all the way over then we killed him then waited again still no respawn of the gorgon then the one that covers the entrance to the jump puzzle came alllllllll the way over while I had left to see if that second one was a respawn it was in fact not we died on the 3rd but it was a good 3 mins with no respawn I think u gotta kill them all they will come at u one at a time progressively getting stronger and will only respawn if the player respawn or there's a limited amount of time somebody much be at the gate while the other 5 players kill a gorgon

  • Has anyone ever taken the Vex mission items into the VoG? More specifically the gorgons maze? The info for the Charged Gatelords Eye reads: The charged eye of a Vex Gate Lord can be used to infiltrate the most protected layers of their network. gonna try it myself soon. will probably have to sacrifice a new character to keep the mission item

      • Me and my squad have personally killed 25 gorgons on hard. We've also found a few very far and elaborated places that were obviously made with intent for a box because there is a rectangular outline there. And when I say far and elaborate trust me. Also i believe after killing athion it doesn't end the game because it's not over, there is another area far far above the platform athion is on, it is there I believe the last box will be at, except I think you can only get it by completing the VOG on hard without anyone dying. Now that all my squad and I are LVL 32 and have 331 GHORNS, it was not hard to kill those gorgons, but we also didn't want to be wasteful on our heavy packs. Just remember IWHBYD was not easy to figure out the first time, and that was like 9 had ago so I'm sure this won't be easy either. Any ideas or theories out there that are legitimate and need real testing get with me, we got a very good group but we can always use other greats.

        • Good post. In my early raiding days before hunting for the vault secrets I remember a particular incident. My group and I became separated in the Gorgons maze, they got spotted and decided to kill the Gorgon. I was thinking we were going to get wiped so I jumped down and started to kill a separate gorgon on my own. The thing is we killed them both at the same time, one on my own and my group on the other. It appeared as though their health is simultaneously linked. Couple of thoughts I have: 1) so there are 7 gorgons on normal. What if we kill the first one to reset the elemental damage, then we all go and pick 1 gorgon each and we attack at the same time to wipe them all out individually due to the linked health. 2) I've heard of a "special" gorgon, one that's different to the rest at the back of the maze. What if we have to leave that one and kill the other 6 at the same time, then kill the special one, kind of like a boss. 3) Maybe hard mode has 9 nine gorgons so it makes us cycle through all elementals killing the first three. This would leave us with only our specials to simultaneously kill the other 6. 4) I can confirm I have stood in front of a gorgon and even walked at the side of one. All the time I was looking at the floor. I shouted my teammates, they all freaked out that their hunter was walking at the side of a gorgon and then stood to face it, i simply walked slowly away m the gorgon and rejoined them. Could this have significance? My ultimate theory based upon the fact bungie say the biggest secret has yet to be found is that we enter the maze. We use an above method to kill all the Gorgons. Now the interesting part is that Kabr fashioned the relic from a gorgon. What if annihilating the gorgons this way leads us to obtaining another relic? Now this relic could potentially be carried through to gatekeeper /atheon which would give us all three relics past present and future. Could this be possible? Probably clutching at straws but im bored since the days of zombies easter Egg hunting aha

          • I had a theory about the Apothesis Veil related due to other posts about Gorgon Mythology. The warlock helm looks like a polished shield or mirror. Today we tested the theory and our group saw the warlock standing face to face without being spotted. Gorgons did not see warlock when wearing it. This has been tested twice with the same result. I would like others to test this theory as well. As an alternate means to validate. On my next warlock run in raid I will record a clip.

            • CONTINUED ------------------------------------------------------ PART TWO Now for a series of IFs, or hypotheticals: IF there are set patterns for notes: --It may correspond, directly or indirectly, to a particular order in which we must kill the Gorgons. IF the spire and Oracle notes correspond naturally with one another, or can be made to correspond via a certain set of circumstances that are able to be affected by the players: --This may make a stronger argument for the existence of a hidden secret, whether or not it is in the Gorgon maze is as yet not known. IF There are as many Gorgons as there are number and/or variations of notes played (i.e. the notes played are A, A#, G, Bb, etc): --STRONGLY suggests that there is a secret hidden in the correlation of notes to number and position of Gorgons. There is no such thing as coincidence. IF there are 7 Gorgons, or the number of remaining Gorgons (after subtracting those in the positions that correspond to the notes played by the Oracles and/or the combination of Oracles and the perfectly formed Spire tone are eliminated) equal 7 or 3: --Come on. Bungie. 7 and 3. No. Such. Thing. As. Coincidence. IF the re-spawn time of the Gorgons increases each time a Gorgon is eliminated in a particular order or under another particular circumstance as yet not known: --This may strongly indicate that it is meant to allow the elimination of the necessary number of Gorgons to unlock the supposed secret, if not ALL Gorgons. It may be that if the re-spawn timer increases, the value by which it increases, whether it be constant or predictably changing between kills, may be used to figure out which Gorgons need to be eliminated in what order. I.E., one Gorgon is killed and it takes 30 seconds to re-spawn, the next Gorgon is killed and 35 seconds elapse before the next re-spawn, or another time that would appropriately accommodate the increase in time it would take to kill the next Gorgon based on the increase in time to kill because of the incremental health/resistance increase. IF because of an increased re-spawn timer and a show by math that it IS POSSIBLE, however unlikely to kill ALL Gorgons based on the combination of optimum weapons employed, optimal damage done by hitting ONLY the weak point, and maximum damage done in the shortest amount of time: --An attempt to kill all Gorgons should be made. If not for the unveiling of a secret, to have claim to the rights of being the ultimate badass in Destiny. IF the Gorgons' health/resistance increase and wipe timer decrease reset when a Gorgon re-spawns: --Could be meant to allow the elimination of the proper sequence of Gorgons without needing to deal with the incremental increase in health and resistance in all Remaining Gorgons once a Gorgon is killed. IF the re-spawned Gorgon resumes the position of the vanquished Gorgon: --Points to each Gorgon being individually identifiable by location, and thus lending importance to their physical position and thus leading to a possible correlation to a set code, i.e. the notes played by a perfectly formed Spire and/or the notes played by the Oracles. IF the appropriate number of Gorgons can be engaged simultaneously and killed by either an individual player, or by a pair of players (depending on how many Gorgons must actually be eliminated: possibly dependent on how many and what notes are played by the Oracles/Perfectly formed spire tone) so as to eliminate all NECESSARY Gorgons simultaneously, therefore bypassing the health and resistance increases encountered by engaging Gorgons Separately: --Correlates to the many Kabr-esque theories that you must be "alone but not alone" while taking on the Gorgons, as well as fitting in with Kabr possibly having inhabited multiple time-spaces whilt inside the vault, thus being able to engage multiple Gorgons at one relative "time." Also allows a team to bypass the increase in health and resistance in all remaining Gorgons once a single Gorgon is eliminated. IF the Gorgons' positions relative to one another remains static: --DEFINITELY lends importance to a Gorgon's individual importance in its given position, also possibly lending credence to the idea that their positions are important because they correspond to some code, i.e. the notes played by a perfectly formed Spire and/or the Oracles. IF the Gorgons have individually identifiable traits that can be observed by a player IN THE GAME, whether it be physical or musical (possibly while patrolling, or when attacked): --Same reasons of importance as all other questions involved with relative position of Gorgons in the maze. Also may tie into an order in which they must be killed independent of any outside code. Keep in mind that I'm intelligent, curious and inquisitive, but FAR from perfect. Lol Some of my information could be incorrect, or I may have overlooked something. I'd REALLY like to see if we, as a community, can test these hypothetical situations and either prove or disprove them and their importance. Perhaps we could lay to rest once and for all the conspiracy theories about the Vault. Don't let this thread die! We can do some real good by seeing this through. Let's knock it out. =)

              • I really think you might be on to something with the oracle note thing. Is it possible that each gorgon is named with one of the notes. And you have to kill the gorgons in order respective to the notes played by the oracles? If so how would we figure out which gorgon is note A and which is B?

                  • I just realized something! What if the gorgons are an adaptive hive mind? This is evidenced by the fact that when one dies, another takes over its path immediately. This also explains why if you kill one with an element, the rest become immune to that element. And it is possible. We are actually taking our first steps towards adaptive hive minds with robots and nanobots. It stands to reason that the vex, a species much more advanced than us, could have furthered the technology. This would mean that to kill all of them, it would have to be simultaneous, the problem being that there would be a seventh gorgon left. This makes it impossible, meaning that any potential hidden secret could only be discovered by killing a select number of gorgons, most likely 3 or 4 because of the 3 elements and possibly kinetic, which is the absence of an element

                  • I know this is a bit like putting the cart before the horse, but what secret could the gorgons hold? An entrance to an unexplored area? In addition, maybe the gorgons cannot kill you if you do not look at them because they function like medusa from Greek mythology? Just some thoughts

                  • You can kill all Gorgans without having to restart all you have to do is keep one player next to where you killed the templar and all the other players can go to the labyrinth and kill all gorgons till there are non left.
