Item Perks (Suggestions)

First of all I want to state before I begin that this is NOT a thread to come complain about the game in. This post is meant for constructive criticism to help improve one of the aspects I believe has untapped potential to add a layer of depth and fun. Currently, there is a somewhat limited number of gun and armor perks available. For instance, fusion rifles have a small pool of perks which include: extended battery (increases magazine size), enhanced coils (reduced charge time), and perfect balance (reduced recoil). Now while I love the idea of customizing guns to your liking or picking the best perk for a certain situation, I believe these item perks could use some expansion. In my theory, item perks should be fun and functional. I don't want to just pick a perk because I feel I need to use it to compete. I want to pick a perk because it's fun! Of course I don't think any of the above perks should be eliminated, but I propose a balance between fun perks and functional perks.. Maybe even a combination of both. I'll start with guns... Explosive rounds. I love this perk. I always pick it when I have the option to, but what's the real point of it? Instead of the current damage split (and correct me if I'm wrong) which takes the base damage (100 let's say) and splits it 50 head 50 body, keep the split and make the extra damage solar. So 50 of that damage uses standard kinetic damage and 50 will be solar damage. This would help with shields and be useful in solar burn situations. In addition it would make more sense than the current explosion in game. Expanding on this, give us arc and void rounds. Why only have explosive rounds? Warlocks shoot out blasts of void so it wouldn't be a large stretch of imagination to say bullets are enhanced with void damage in a sci-fi game. In addition this effect wouldn't imbalance pvp because the damage modifiers are irrelevant in the crucible. Other fun perks could be 'splash rounds' which cause damage to adjacent enemies and 'overload' which causes precision shots to cause arc explosions (similar to current firefly but with arc damage). These are all I can think of this exact second but I'm hoping maybe some of you could add some suggestions. Now for armor.. These perks are almost always functional perks. (aside from exotics which is a point mentioned at the end of the post) First of all, if bungie is relent on keeping the special ammo, pulse ammo, punch speed, etc for the guns that's okay. I like these perks, they make sense and add customization and an extra factor to look for on armor. But why not let us have options like we do for guns? Give us 3 options for armor: pulse ammo, auto ammo, or scout ammo. That way when I find a piece of armor with a boost to a certain gun I don't use, I don't have to feel like this is a useless perk. In addition to these armor perks being more customizable I believe armor should have fun perks, in line with what I mentioned above. There are a couple examples I could think of which could be fun and balanced.. Increased jump height and faster run speed immediately come to mind. While these won't necessarily make me perform any better, they would just be something fun to look for. So the point of this long thread is to see if anyone agrees with me and to give bungie suggestions of perks which might add fun to the game. So let's hear your suggestions for better item perks. And just remember.. They're not going to add double damage as a perk, so try to be balanced and fun with your ideas! Tldr: item perks aren't fun, they're just useful... What are some ideas for new perks for guns and armor? ***regarding exotic weapon perks*** To me exotic perks are good. They're unique, powerful, and in a lot of cases fun. With that being said I do understand that these perks are meant to make exotic gear sought out and unique. In my opinion items (especially legendaries) should have perks which aren't unique to the item itself but unique to an item rarity. Perhaps legendaries have a unique pool of perks in line with the ones mentioned above. Thanks for reading and apologies for typing errors. Edit* typos

  • Another suggestion I've gotten was to add element changes to exotic weapons. For instance an exotic warlock helm that changes all Voidwalker class damage to Arc. To me this is less likely to become real, but a cool idea.
