The Vex Have a God; Who/What is it?

I'll attempt to keep this brief and let the lore hunters to their work. I was skimming over the Grimoire when I, once again, stumbled into the Vex portion. I was reading into the Sol Progeny card when something caught my eye. The card states that the Sol Progeny is the protector of the Black Garden's Heart, and that the Sol Progeny (will be referred to as SP from here on out) is actually the Heart, but in defensive form. This same card tells us that Ikora Ray fears that the Heart is part of something much bigger, and that the SP was just one part of, "binding the Vex to it, and it to the Vex." Meaning that the Vex's God is still out there. But just how powerful is it? Now it gets a bit more interesting. Another Vex Card (I forget which one it is) says that when the Vex had found this God, they ran through all possible calculations and algorithms, and still could not understand it. Therefore, they succumbed to worshiping it, revering it as "divine." This is concerning. The Vex are hyper intelligent, time traveling, self aware robots, aware of almost, if not all, truths of the universe. How then could they not understand this God? I hope that there's more information on this, as I'm missing some Grimoire cards, but I think there's something bigger. The Heart was just the beginning. The Vex's God will be unstoppable, unbeatable, and will not be able to be fully understood, and possibly not even comprehended. I hope you all enjoyed the read, and I hope some of you have information on this.

  • Much like the traveler, I speculate that the vex's god is a manifestation in our universe that we mistakenly believed was real. As we go along as encounter the vault we learn we are part of a computer simulation, and that there is a realm beyond ours we cannot comprehend that these powers come from. The most basic way to explain it is this - two people sat down to play a game, one the darkness, one the traveler. The darkness cheated by learning exploits to make itself invincible and write itself into the code of the universe, and crippled the traveler, and now it's armies are bearing down. This isn't the actual circumstance, just an analogy

  • My interpretation is that the Vex "god" is the darkness itself. The heart of the black garden was a fragment of the Darkness, similar to how the Traveler had a shard broken off in the Chamber of Night Hive mission. The immense power of the heart left the Vex dumbfounded, not because of its power (as it is defeated by a lone guardian/ Fireteam), but because it is a miniscule fraction of its possible power.

  • Thanks for reminding me how disappointing the "Boss" battle was in the Black Garden

  • I thought it was obvious that their God was the darkness, just like every other enemy in the game... it's like the Abrahamic religions in real life. Same god, different interpretations.

      • i thought it was pretty clear that it was the black garden??? I dont really get the black garden. The Stranger said the Vex were born there right? But the Grimoire says that when the Vex found the Heart of the Garden, it was so powerful that they decided to worship it. But the Garden creates the Vex, so how didnt they know about it already?

      • Interesting read! The Destiny universe is so enormous and Bungie could really do something amazing with it. I hope the story of it all begins to unfold soon.

The Vex god is a Reaper, or more accurately, all of the Reapers. Just like the Geth, they were incapable of fully understanding the "Old Machines", so they resorted to worship. Vex mind cores are organic, as said by Dinklebot, and the Reapers are created from processed organic material, at least partially. Makes sense to me! :) Edit: Now if the Vex figure out that they need to go back in time and kill Commander Shepard, then we are all screwed.

      • Its a big black cloud that you kill by destroying statues. As far as destiny is concerned I've found that the least interesting answer is usually the right one.
