DISCLAIMER:
Are you one of these? Desticle Type 1 You are an apologist for Bungie and Destiny and you refuse to accept or contemplate any criticism toward Destiny, no matter how the argument is presented to you and no matter how reasonable the suggestions are. Instead, you label anyone who suggests anything to modify certain aspects of Destiny a "crybaby" who should "go play Call of Duty instead", like you saw several other people do. Desticle Type 2 You absolutely abhor Destiny, regardless of whether or not you've spent over a hundred hours playing Destiny, and this also somehow makes you hate everyone who likes Destiny. You are prone to spamming the forums with "Nerf [Insert Something Here]" threads, sometimes without providing any good reasons why (probably because you got your ass kicked in the Crucible) and insulting anyone who disagrees with you. You are the reason Type 1 Desticles exist. If you are one of these types of people, please leave this thread immediately. Thank you. Now for the rest of you guys, please keep it civil and respect one another.
I've made this thread hoping that Bungie notices and implements a few changes that could make Destiny a more enjoyable experience overall. This is genuine constructive criticism, not blind bandwagon hate. In fact, the very reason I'm writing this is because I love Destiny. I love the concept behind the game, I'm just sad that it was executed so poorly and didn't deliver a lot of what was promised, but you all knew about that already. So let's dive right in. I hate the current reward system that's in place. The Random Number Generator (RNG) doesn't make it feel like you're earning your gear. It just makes the whole game feel like a massive lottery. No matter the deeds you've done, or the hours you've sunk into the game, everyone has an equal chance of getting Exotics, which are supposed to be pinnacle of the reward system. The rarest, the most powerful, and the most difficult weapons and gear that you can possibly get in Destiny. People may argue that RNG is fair, since it gives everyone an equal chance, but that is the very reason why I think it's unfair. In the eyes of RNG, there is no difference between someone with an overall K/D of 3.00 and someone with an overall K/D of 0.70. There is no difference between someone who has opened over 40 Cryptarch packages and someone who has only opened 10. There is no difference between someone who has run the Raid a dozen times, and someone who has done it only once or twice. You don't decide your fate, RNG does. This RNG system has also spawned two types of people. The "Earners" and the "Xûr-ners". If you aren't aware of these terms, a so-called "Earner" is a lucky player who happened to get an Exotic randomly as a reward at the end of an activity, like a Crucible game, and a "Xûr-ner" is a player who actually earned and saved up their Strange Coins to buy Exotics from Xûr. "Earners" may argue that earning Strange Coins is a joke because it only takes around half an hour to solo the Weekly Heroic or Nightfall Strikes to obtain them. "Xûr-ners" (like myself because RNG didn't give me a choice) may argue that earning Exotics through RNG is a joke. Just AFK in the Crucible and get a 0.00 K/D and you still have the same chance as someone who worked hard and carried his/her team to victory. Just because someone chances upon an Exotic, for example, The Last Word, through RNG, doesn't mean that he/she's more deserving of it than others are. Unfortunately, many so-called "Earners" don't want Xûr to sell it because they think that they somehow deserve it more and that Xûr will come around and destroy their "Special Snowflake" status. In fact, since I mentioned The Last Word, why do Exotic bounties exist when only a handful of all Exotic weapons can be earned through Exotic bounties (even then bounties are only obtainable through RNG)? The Last Word is an extremely good example since it can only be acquired by RNG, while Thorn, which according to Destiny's lore written in the Grimoire Cards, is related to The Last Word (the whole deal with Jaren Ward / Shin Malphur / Dredgen Yor), is acquired by completing a relatively challenging Exotic bounty. Despite the two Exotic Hand Cannons sharing a connection, one is obtained through RNG only, while the other is obtained through an Exotic bounty. I would agree with the other people who say that The Last Word should not be sold by Xûr, since a gun with such an extensive backstory shouldn't be simply sold to everyone by a vendor, but since The Last Word can only be obtained through RNG (which takes zero skill to get), I am hoping that Xûr sells it soon. I would rather have The Last Word only be obtainable through a difficult Exotic bounty, like Thorn, but since all the other Exotics are already only "earned" through the screwed up system of RNG (which nothing can be done about), I believe that Xûr should sell it, so those who earned and saved up their Strange Coins can enjoy the gun too. Heck, even Xûr's stock is determined by RNG. That's the reason I'm sitting on a pile of 83 Strange Coins (as of this post). In fact, I think that at one point, even Bungie, the people who love RNG so much, advocated genuinely earning your weapons by pulling off respectable feats and demonstrations of skill.
As for swapping irons in the Tower? Nope. We want you to earn ‘em. You should be able to tell a badass story for every sweet jewel in your arsenal. Once you earn them, the various Guardians under your account will be able to trade them, but weapons belong to the players who acquire them through action and bravery.
-Bungie Weekly Update 08/22/2014 http://www.bungie.net/en/News/News?aid=12054 I thought that I'd also mention Shaders. Bungie did a good job at advertising Destiny's supposedly vast customization options, but what good are they when your Shaders, basic color customization, are also only obtainable through RNG? Eva Levante doesn't do her -blam!-ing job. She's been selling only Jester Apogee, Provincial Royale, Polar Oak and Aurora Blur since September 9th. My Suggestions Remove Exotics from RNG loot tables except the Weekly Heroic and Nightfall Strikes and the Raids (like the Vex Mythoclast in the Vault of Glass). In the future, make a larger portion of Exotics able to be obtained through Exotic bounties, and make these bounties have a decent chance to drop for players with decent scores in the Crucible. If possible, add a new type of currency that you can earn from completing Raids, similar to Vanguard and Crucible Marks, that can be spent on Raid gear. This means that RNG won't -blam!- around with that final piece of Raid gear that you just can't seem to get. Increase the chances of Legendary gear dropping for the top two players in the winning team and players who get "On the Bright Side" medals and "Reign of Terror" medals. Make Eva Levante rotate her stock of Shaders daily, otherwise she's useless. Make her Shaders cost 7 Motes of Light each, like the Speaker's Emblems. As for Xûr, True Reclaimer has written a pretty good thread titled How To: Fix Xur - EASY. http://www.bungie.net/ga/Forum/Post/76343256/0/0 What do you guys think? I'm perfectly fine with you guys disagreeing with me, and I'll be happy to listen to you. Don't worry, I'm not like those stupid Desticles who'll hurl a volley of profanities at you for disagreeing. Voice your opinions, and place your vote. Thank you all for reading. And Bungie, if you do read this, thank you.

  • Personally, I feel like Bungie should scrap RNG for the most part. This game was advertised as a MMO, but MMOs don't rely solely on RNG for loot. Sure, the random things you might pick up from some random enemy might be random, but things like high-end gear are assured drops. Also in an MMO, you should feel like you are being rewarded for getting to higher levels/killing tougher enemies/doing well in pvp. Currently I feel like Destiny has done better at giving assured legendary weapons/armor for completing tougher pve challenges, but in respects to pvp they have been seriously lacking. There is no reason that someone who carries their team to victory should get a lesser reward than someone who went 3 -15. Also since the release of The Taken King, RNG completely screws most players out of getting to max light level unless you're willing to spend endless hours praying to the RNG gods to give you gear that has a higher light level than what you currently have. This is actually one of the reasons I stopped playing. What's the point of playing a game where the stats of your gear determine you're level when the game's loot system refuses to give you better gear no matter what you do? To sum things up, these are the things that I believe Bungie can do to improve Destiny: 1. Remove exotics from RNG. 2. Make exotics obtainable only through exotic bounties (Or completing the raids on hard difficulty as is the case with the Vex Mythoclast) 3. Provide clear ways of obtaining exotic bounties. 4. Take into consideration a player's current light level so that player consistently receive gear that will help them increase their light level. 5. In respects to the crucible, take into consideration how well a player does when giving rewards at the end of a match. Players who do well should be rewarded, those who do not, should not. This will give players incentive to improve their skills because they will feel like doing so will be worth it. Thus, creating a more competitive pvp experience. 6. More story, more story, MORE STORY. Grimoire cards should not be the only way for players to learn the story behind this game. Let players actually experience these narratives first hand.

  • Sometimes I feel like I get stuck in a loop where the rng keeps giving me the same things over and over is my only real complaint. I've had like 10 of the crucible heavy machine guns with the perk for getting a kill with the last round increases reload speed. The game really just seems to want to give me void heavy weapons all the time and while I didn't think trading was needed in this game at first, I've changed my mind because there has to be someone out there who is in a different loop of getting the same thing and may want what I seem to always get.

I think it's hilarious how they expect you to have an epic and badass story for obtaining items that can only be obtained randomly. My last word? Random reward for a ROC strike I've run hundreds of times. EPIC! Got NLB from a random chest. EPIC! A lvl 2 dreg dropped an engram that decoded to hardlight. SO EPIC! Finished 2nd on my team in the crucible in a losing effort with a crappy .86 kd. Got Truth as a random drop. UBER EPIC! It's a joke how clueless these guys can be at times.

    • The solution to this system is simple. It can stay exactly how it is BUT, THE SYSTEM NEEDS TO TAKE IN ACCOUNT THE GUNS YOU ALREADY HAVE AND TAKEN OFF THE LOOT TABLE. By this I mean, If you already have an Ice Breaker on one of your characters (or in your vault) then Ice Breaker needs to be taken out of the loot roll. If you think its necessary to have more than one Ice Breaker then the vault wouldn't exist. The vault is there to store and transfer guns from character to character. But hey if you want another one go buy it from XUR. IF THE SYSTEM TAKES IN ACCOUNT WHAT YOU DON'T NEED, then its just a matter of time (grind) before you get what you want. The way the system works now does not make sense because of time. The more DLCs that come out the more guns and amour there is on the loot table. The more loot their is the smaller your chances are of getting the gun you want. This is why XUR needs to start stepping his game up. Speaking of Xur when is he going to sell Heart of Praxic Fire? Or was that a PS4 exclusive item. I can't belief how all this time and effort went into making a game that plays the same on all platforms then PS4 players get more for their money. If I would of known that I wouldn't have bought an XBox One. Anyways back to Xur. We will see if he is randomized or not when the next DLC comes out. Since there are WAY more old exotic items in his loot than in the 2nd DLC comin out. If he is selling 1 new DLC item his first week, I am calling BS., it is not random. There is no way, unless they put a crap ton of new exotic material in his loot. Which we all know this isnt going to happen. Do the math look at the odds. Since all the loot in this game is random it shows their is no system what so ever. Grind grind grind, someone will eventually get struck by lightning and get what they don't already have.

    • How about adjusting the loot table more towards what you need (mats) or towards gear that is equal or better than what you have (if you have all legendaries and keep getting rates, becomes a frustrating grind)

      • I think find it hard to firmly say that im on one side of the fence. Usally I hate RNG in general, especially in MMO's or in games that you can spend a lot of time in. and I can honestly say that the RNG system for Crucible bugs me quite a big deal. However, I chose ''I have no opinion on RNG'' because of several reasons. 1) I think one should ideally focus on having fun in the game, and let the rewards come along as a bonus. Now don't get me wrong, I'm a big grinder myself but I wise I could care a little less, and just enjoy the game. - My experience is that if you crave loot too much your gonna be disappointed a lot, and make the game into a lot of grinding instead of just enjoying it. 2) Logeviy. Like someone previously mentioned, if you could just grind the items, the incentive to play could quickly diminish for elitist players. Carrot on a stick is just a great tool in gaming, and as much as we hate or dislike it we will still stick around - cause we need to get that damn Last Word :) 3) If grinding yields too much reward I think that the disparity would be greater (which is also a reason why I approve of Xur) Let's face it a guy who has 100hours played will have a lot better gear than one that plays 50 hours. He should have better gear, but you'd want to make sure that the 50hour player doesnt feel inferior or left out ( I think Destiny has done a good job of this) - I think the current RNG system can potentially yield some good rewards for players who dont play as often, and if it was me I'd think that I still had a fair shot to get loot even though I played a lot less. This would not be the case if hours played directly translated into loot. In conclusion, this is the first game were I more or less accept the RNG system, maybe my motives have changed, maybe I finally realized that its all just a carrot on a stick, or maybe I've just grown older. It should be noted that I've logged a lot of hours. Cheers

Simply put, RNG acts as a timegate to draw out playtime. This game does not have enough PVE content to keep players, so by setting RNG numbers the Devs can control how long it takes to get items, and therefore how long you play the game. It's an effective way to artificially create playtime and it's BS. By having rewards based on skill, it alienates casual gamers and reduces the income of the company. For example if rewards were based on how many enemies you kill in a strike, the casual gamers will be left with nothing to shoot while skilled gamers blitzed the strike and killed everything before a chance was given to casual gamers. Casual gamers will feel "griefed" they didn't get a chance. Unfortunately, this game was created to cater to unskilled crowds and lacks depth. Anyone can put zero effort into most things and get rewarded, people who try hard will not get through the minimal content too fast. Smart but incredibly shady, lazy, and money-grubbing.

            • Yeah I could care less about weapons through RNG because the way I see it, a weapon is only as good as the person who has it equipped. I WOULD, however, like to hit level 30 before the damn DLC comes out. 15+ runs spread out over the course from day 3 of Destiny's release to now, I only have boots and the chest. 5 vision of confluence, and shards and energies are the majority of what I've gotten. It makes me not want to play the game for more than doing just the raid once a week. Pardon my language, but shit is stupid.

                • I don't disapprove of RNG however i do agree that there is a lack of story to weapons gained through random drops. I personally would like to see more exotic bounties and perhaps giving every exotic weapon a bounty then instead of getting exotic drops you would get "assignments" basically a choice from a random selection of exotic bounties as well as set drops from certain activities. i"d like to see more exotics like the mythoclast where you know exactly how to get it and what others had to do to earn it.

                • I voted disapprove, though I still think a little bit of RNG should stay to keep things random, fresh, and interesting. What I think would work better is a "systematic loot system"- rather than assigning random rewards to all the players, higher up players (e.g. 1st and 2nd) should have maximized chance for exotics- maybe 15% - then a 25% chance or so at legendaries. Middle players, such as 3rd and 4th, should have an average chance- maybe 15% for legendaries, and 5% for exotics, but the top players will still have a maximized opportunity. If you get what I am saying? Because I agree, it really sucks seeing the bad players get the good rewards. No need to further on that one, everyone can understand that pain XD And then regarding the type of the gear that drops- there should be something safeguarding you from getting "repeat engrams", right now I have 8 legendary heavy weapons all from engrams, a pair or two are duplicates/nearly identical in function. There should be something to prevent players from getting this: e.g. if I am holding 8 legendary heavy weapons, my chances of having a legendary engram contain a heavy weapon should be reduced by 80% (just a concept), so that way I can have a higher chance at getting, say, a legendary primary/special weapon, or armor piece. On a related note to the above paragraph about having 8 legendary heavy weapons from engrams, it really "rustles my jimmies" when I buy an exotic engram from Xur and it ends up being for another class, right now I have 2 titan exotics and 2 hunter exotics despite my main character being a sunsinger-based warlock, where I buy all these engrams. I think a cool thing to do would be when you turn in a legendary/exotic armor engram, the chance of it being for your selected class should be ~50%, and there only be a 25% chance of it being for one of the other two classes (e.g. 50% warlock based, 25% hunter based, 25% titan based, if I decrypt the engram with my warlock.) That's all I have to pinch in on this topic for now, here's your feedback, Bungie! :) Good luck keeping the game running, and please do "tweak" the RNG to be a bit less.... random XD Thanks! -Blocksystem

I think the reward system should be reworked in crucible. For strikes honestly a vote kick option is what is needed. In Tiger strikes i don't really care if i get shafted for rewards if everyone in the strike is doing their part. Actually the fix would be just have xur sell the raid gear for strange coins or some new currency. This would honestly fix things for the people who want to hit 30 who dont really care for pve that much. It would also help out those who have had shit luck with the raid drops. obviously the hard exclusive gear should just stay in the hard raid, but the normal raid stuff could just be sold by Xur. I also think the drop rates could just be modified to favor the gear over ascendant materials in the actual raid. Considering, ascendant materials are given out like candy in the end game.

                  • Broke ass system from the beginning, they should've let us upgrade our common/uncommon/rare drops into Legendaries with different perks. Just give us some kind of material to upgrade from uncommon to rare or rare to legendary. As far as this joke Raid Armor, we should've been given coins on the completion of raids that we could use to upgrade current legendary gear INTO raid gear. That way we would all still be unique special snowflakes. Halo drops in 15 hours and I cannot wait..

Say you, instead of randomly awarding random stuff to everyone that participated, change to ranking the participants and awarding the best stuff to the top, and the worst/no stuff to the bottom. What d'you think happens next? What happens next is that the players that regularly finish in the bottom stop playing, because they're still being everyone's buttmonkey, except now they get no reward for it. What d'you think happens after that? What happens after that is that the smug people who can beat a bunch of noobs who might not even be trying (maybe instead going through the motions to get crucible rep whilst watching TV P-I-P) don't have any noobs to beat, because they all quit. Now they're at the bottom and getting no reward, and not winning, and having no fun, and they quit too. This cycle continues until all that's left is a tiny fraction of the original playerbase who actually are good at the crucible. Anyone that tries to join in immediately plays against the best of the best, gets locked out, and quits. If you only reward the top players, anyone that's not a top player will leave and never come back.

Maybe it's that there isn't an auction house or something and I think that would be a very welcome addition if done correctly, but really I don't understand why rng is so hated. Heaven forbid you haven't gotten the weapon or armor you want. I haven't gotten either of the two thing I want more than anything, that's just the game, the way it works.

                          • If you don't approve the RNG, the best players get better. Nothing is wrong with the RNG system. A marketplace where you can trade legendaries/exotics with other players, or alternatively a group loot from Raid which you can split/exchange as needed with your fireteam would be nice addition though.

                          • I can understand why you're upset but that's what rng is, it is supposed to be like that, it isn't broken, it is working in the exact way Bungie wanted it to and so this is why I don't think it will change...
