The Crucible: My Opinion

It seems like 80% of the time I'm killed by an enemy, it's from the use of heavy ammo, a Super, a shotgun, a fusion rifle, a random grenade or a Titan's one-hit-kill melee attack. It may be that I'm just not used to the many ways of gaining the advantage, I'm not sure, but I am having a rough time. I feel as though finding success in Destiny's Crucible goes hand-in-hand with accepting the fact that you're going to have to play a certain way, because knowing the maps and being good with a controller, just doesn't cut it. Bottom line: the Supers are too easy to acquire, heavy ammo almost always goes to the team who's already winning, and there are just too many ways for players to gain huge advantages over other players. We can't all use shotguns and fusion rifles. To me, Crucible feels a lot like the PVP in the Resistance series...and who's playing that right now? On the other hand, maybe I just need a bit more practice. But I think my FPS skills, at the very least, are already pretty respectable.

  • That sounds about right. Titan shoulder charge I don't understand. It's a 1 hit kill but nobody else gets a 1 hit kill melee?

    • My kd went from .2 to .9 in control, I know that is not great. When I stopped trying to cap 3 points and stopped charging contested area. I take my time, never have the highest kills but often solidly in middle of pack. Feel like I help the team, bottom line even in team based play seems to be a bunch of individuals. Yes they rack up kills but lose points to other team with lots of deaths. I am in no way PvP pro, this is first game I have actually played PvP. This is just my humble opinion.

    • I don't use the shotgun or fusion rifle. I use AR and a Sniper all the time, still at a 1.9 K/D on my Hunter. It takes some getting used to, but if you run around all the time, you're going to die a lot. Map control, and patience are key in this game.

    • The exotic Thorn bounty taught me to be a more defensive player, and that improved my K/D ratio. Now I stick to Control and hang back behind cover with a scout rifle as my primary (Vision of Confluence) and mix it up between a sniper or shotgun for secondary depending on the map. Hanging out at a distance from a Control point but with a decent line of sight, you can set the pace for the engagements. It is also a good idea to maintain a presence near the heavy ammo so that you are positioned to get some every time. Then tested my old playstyle of running and gunning charging Control points with my shotgun, focusing on quick reaction time. That style just doesn't work in Destiny. Better to take a mid-range defensive approach if you care about K/D.

      • PvP.... well. Destiny is a joke. You're absolutely right nothings balanced you have to play a certain way and you can only win playing that certain way this makes and destiny the laughing stock of all PvP. I have deleted bounties that require me to play The Crucible for my exotic weapons because the crucible is such a deplorable and horrible experience I would rather play minecraft PvP than the pathetic garbage that bung hole put out for destiny...

The PvP in this game is hard to take seriously. The majority of your deaths will be out of your control. It is what it is. Supers are my biggest issue with this game. I don't think they should be enabled in PvP or you should acquire them less often. I notice in a later post that you say Clash is a good playlist for you. That is the one I prefer to avoid the most. Mainly because people don't move. I prefer to play Control in a team or Rumble when I'm playing alone. People move more in those playlists.

        • You have an average 1.5 KD...I don't understand what your issue is. That is well above most people's KD. I'd say keep doing what you're doing

          • Heavy Ammo: This is no different than any other game. The team winning and controlling the map will get the "power weapons" (Halo, Gears of War). When your opposing team has heavy ammo the best way to counter this is to get good at sniping. If you get close to the enemy with heavy you will almost always guaranteed get blown away by rockets or mowed down by machine gun. So keeping your distance is important to counter heavy ammo. If they are using rockets keep jumping as high as you can. If they are using machine gun never contest in the open, only contest from cover. Also wait to build your super. You can take some heavy ammo opponents out with your super. Ultimately don't contest heavy at close quarters without a super. Supers: Hunters are easy enough. They make distinct sounds as they enter their super. If you hear this sound just turn the other way and run until it runs out. Don't contest it and let the time run out if you have the option. Titans and warlocks are trickier. Usually after a certain amount of time has passed everyone starts getting to the point where their super is ready. At this point you need to keep distance and be ready to jump away. Jump away from rushing titans and try to keep distance from the warlocks. Warlocks are the hardest to avoid since it has a larger AoE and has distance. Keep an eye on the game feed and who is getting a lot of kills then you can anticipate players that may have a super waiting. You can also see players that have exhausted their super for the time being. The best primaries in the game right now are hand cannons IMO (Thorn, Last Word, DYK, Hawk Moon, Fatebringer). If you can get good at hitting head shots in rapid succession you will do really well. If you like distance just stick to scout rifles (Vision of Confluence). Fusion Rifles and Shotguns are prevalent but easy to deal with. Fusion Rifles you just need to strafe, don't lock up and sit in position or you will always die. Shotguns people will try sliding and blinking. If people are sliding a lot adjust your aim for those players and aim for their legs. When they enter their slide your aim will already be compensated and you will finish the player off. If they abuse the blink, always jump in their direction as soon as they blink. You will trade places and can finish the person off. Other than that all you need is a quick trigger and the ability to anticipate opponents next moves.

            • honestly i avoid clash its far to random. i like playing control it's easier to find people. knowing maps is a big advantage. i just try to stay in a spot i can defend Two control points. most people just run to the point and sit there. take them out from a distance. capturing 3 points is a bad idea. if you leave them with one you can farm them from their control point. also this game is so random for matching opponents. you can be put in a game with complete newbs one game. then the next you could be playing against amazing players, so you can't be really disappointed if you do bad for a night every now and then. since i started sitting back trying to guard two points my kd went from 1 and under to over 2 my past few games. even had over 6. also a rocket launcher that tracks targets can be amazing it will kill across a large map. and an ability like nova bomb when you see them on a point never fails. will kill everyone there.

            • The frequency of supers and availability of special ammo (for weapons that kill in one shot) ruins Crucible for me. Not even a matter of getting used to it, it's just not fun.

              • need people for PvP who have MIC's (PS3).I play mostly PvP and just the hard pve modes so I'm playing PvP 75% of the time but the problem is I'm in a clan and allied with a couple other clans but no one plays PvP regularly like I do so I end up playing by myself constantly. My proposition is if you play mostly PvP and have a MIC add me and we will run in a group. PSN: jscrazzy Comment so I know your sending a request Lvl30 hunter 27 warlock If you play mostly PvE, DO NOT ADD ME

                • Best thing i can do to counter this is get a scout rifle and stay away from everyone. Keep just a few feet from everyone and you are out of range of shotguns and too close for a scope on a sniper to hit you accurately and charge rifles have a harder time at longer range. If you see a super just book it and get out.

                • I agree with the supers I don't think they should be acquired through time but instead score and kills this assures that people won't be able to get 3 to 5 supers a game.

                  • The heavy ammo is spread out for both teams could get it, if only one team does that means you're getting stomped. Also when the heavy ammo is released hang back because you're most likely going to get mowed down or blown to bits by RPG noobs. And the crucible is really all about your approach to start. Knowing the board is good, so is having quick reflexes & certain weapons but your strategy is what matters.
