The Dark Below Suggestion
So these last couple days we've been getting a lot of information, on the new upcoming hyped 1st installment of Destiny DLC. It looks overall exciting, and I can't wait to get in on the action. Except I have one issue with this expansion, I don't feel my levels and play time will really be very "Enhanced".
The new Level Cap by 2
When the new DLC releases, the only way to improve in level is to do the new Raid. In this we will be able to obtain the newest Raid gear, that will help us achieve Max Level 32.
My Suggestion
I suggest Bungie makes the next Level cap by 10, rather than a small amount like 2.
Reasoning
You Earn Exp
From the start your Max Level Cap is 20.
You Earn Legendaries
With Full-Legendary your Max Level Cap is 28.
You reach the Raid
With Full-Raid Gear your Max Level Cap is 30.
Your Experience in Destiny
Throughout this process you've earned tons of Exp, you've earned your great Legendaries and Exotics, and more importantly worked your way up to the Raid.
Dark Below Experience
Bungie let's not make a DLC where you rush straight into another Raid. Get your 2 levels, and be done with the game. Let's create an experience where players get to earn their gear, and work their way up to fighting Crota!
I Suggest
Raise the cap by 10(Max Level 40)
Add new Legendary/Exotic items that can get you between 30-38.
Then allow the Raid Gear to get you to that whopping Max Level Cap 40.
Create that amazing experience, let the DLC be something where it enhances the existing game. Give people that hype, and want for the DLC.
Community
Take the time to Favorite this post.
Let's get this post out there for DeeJ and Bungie to read. They have plenty of time between now and then to do a Hot Fix, and make The Dark Below not Blow.
Edit 1
For DLC members
What if they raised the experience level by 5, and the light level by 5. So we still raise by 10 by gaining real experience and new raid armor?
DLC members would be level 25 without Armor and 40 with full Raid Gear.
I just think we need more of an Expansion and 32 looks lame.
This would require players to play the new missions and bounties, level up to prepare for the new Raid. Then acquire the full Raid Gear to be maxed out. This would be a real expansion, rather than 1 hour of story and a raid.

I absolutely hate that my level is based on my luck in doing the Raid(s). I know its RNG but my luck in the Raid so far is horrible. I have taken multiple characters multiple times through the Raid to get 1 armor piece. Not complaining, but Raid armor should NOT be the limiting factor in leveling.
-
wish they make it you level up armor with a armor smith and using 20 mote of light or something to keep your favourite armor
-
People still play Destiny? Lol
-
Why is there not a softcap level raise? Oh because theres not enough content to accomodate it.

Edited by MightyJonE: 11/2/2014 3:06:29 AMPersonally, I feel all this "light" levelling is over-complicated nonsense and totally unnecessary - unless it's a short-term gimmick to extend the life of the game's slim contents
-
The real question. Once you upgrade a full Raid gear set and get to 32, what do you do then? WHAT THE POINT TO IT ALL?!?!?!?!?
-
Or just not change the light level at all.
-
lets just make all your past grinding for gear pointless =D........... but seriously it looks like you will need to get new type of material upgrade to raise your legendaries to greater than 27 light points so you will need to upgrade all your gear with this material to get to 32 thus meaning you can keep for favourite armor still unless you find better
-
Grinding xp for every single piece of gear you get is too tedious. Probably my biggest gripe with Destiny besides the lack of PvE. I own all these exotics that I will never use. I understand they want people to play the game more but cmon it is repetitive and boring.
-
When they raise level cap, it should be half by XP and half my new armor. Say they did raise it 10. You'd be able to achieve 5 of those by XP just like you got from 1-20. The other 5 would require you to obtain the newest gear from the newest challenges.

I strongly agree with everything above and think that it all should be applied to the ULC ( that's UNLOCKED CONTENT because most of the stuff in the "DLC" is already in the game but locked off from us )
-
Or by five, and let the next dlc increase by five as well.
-
Edited by ColdAtrophy: 11/1/2014 12:37:27 PMSorry, that would be too close to what an actual expansion does and doesn't fit with the new definition of the term that Activision would really like us to get comfortable with.

something to consider
-
No. So many reason why no
-
This would kind of unbalance the game towards players who bought the dlc, and unless Bungie fixes the matching system, there would be a lot of complaining
-
I'm not 100% sure but I have a feeling it's too late for them to make hard changes like that when they've already spent the last 3/4 months working on what they've shown is now. Tough call.
-
I think they should raise the non light levels as well. 20 works for the beginning but if they keep raising the light lvl cap, let's say it's lvl 50, the non light lvls are just pointless.

I don't think you're seeing how much of an imbalance would occur if the cap was raised to 40. Strike playlists become futile, the old raid (Vault of Glass) becomes much easier, and Iron Banner would be filled with PVE all-stars that greatly out-level PVP players. Just no.

It's a $20.00 'patch' or DLC if you will, not an expansion. I'm starving for more content in this game and at this point I would love to start paying a monthly subscription if that means more fresh content in destiny every month or week. Getting to light lvl 32 will take weeks or months if it's anything like getting to 30. I have made countless runs through the VoG just to get stuck with another pair of leggings I already have, or nothing but shards, at this rate I'll never see 30. For now I'll be visiting destiny once a week until this DLC comes out and adds a few hours to my once a week visit.
-
i don't know about you guys but to me i feel like most of gear and weapons in this are just cheap knock-offs the collector's weapons in ME2/3
-
How about you wait until it drops and see if two levels is actually not enough first?
-
Unfortunately I don't agree with this. You would quickly outrank the strike playlists and the current raid would be what strike or story mission is now. My theory is that they will raise the cap to 35 in the second dlc.
