A lot like Taco Bell?

I was talking with my wife the other night about Bungie and Destiny. I likened the PvP updates to the taco bell menu. What we see at taco bell is a rearranging of the same ingredients to create some interesting things. Double-Decker Taco... seven-layer burrito... etc. The PvP portion of Destiny is most likely the easiest to change and update, so it makes sense that Bungie would focus on it in the short term. Of course, not everyone likes Taco Bell and not everyone likes PvP. The initial outting of Destiny was pretty anemic regarding PvE. The campaign was short and disjointed with all the elements it introduced. However, it is unrealistic to expect such things to be addressed immediately. Sure, small things can be touched upon (damage tables and engram drops and whatever else), but adding meaningful content isn't going to happen on the same schedule as with PvP. I think we can look to how quickly Bungie responds with PvP as an indicator of their intent to provide a quality game (at least from here on out). For me, the moment I'm waiting for is the release of the DLC. When it drops and we don't see significant developments on the PvE side then I think we can "jump ship" and truly write the game off. But until that time we can't say for certain what is going to happen with the game. At the moment I'm going to be playing Borderlands, as I've run out of engaging game play experiences for Destiny- unless Raid Matchmaking happens- but I'm more than willing to get back into it should the DLC offer me something more. I don't think it can truly be cogently argued that Destiny wasn't pared down at some point (and using "subject to change" arguments isn't going to suffice. The game is significantly different from what Bungie intimated it would be). However, there is nothing concrete to say that those cuts were made for the sake of paid DLC. It is entirely possible that cut content (which I feel was cut because of staffing and deadline issues) will be re-introduced at a later time separate from the paid DLC. The point: Its to be expected that in the short-run PvP will receive the most attention as its the most easily manipulated and addressed. Until the DLC drops we shouldn't expect significant changes to PvE outside of game breaking issues. BUT! once we've hit the point where we have DLC and Bungie has had appropriate opportunity to affect change in PvE then we can really hold them to it.

      • Yeah I agree. The DLC will be more indicative of how Bungie will expand the non-Crucible portion of the game. The fact that Bungie acts fast, and keeps the players updated on what's happening is fantastic.

      • I don't think the analogy is perfect. At Taco Bell you can pay $10 and have everything on the menu, with destiny you have to pay $95 and you still only get have the game.

When we seen what they do with the narrative though the course of the DLC, a lot of fairly permanent consumer sentiment decisions are going to be made about this game. I'm in for the long haul, (I want the Destiny franchise to pay for the Marathon reboot) but if we haven't see major improvement in the care with which the story is being crafted by the time Destiny 2 ships, I'm going to be a very reluctant customer from that point on.

        • Excellent way to put it. I go back and forth between Destiny and Diablo 3 right now, and D3 is getting more and more of that time as days pass. I'm trying to hold out till the December DLC, but dammit if this last Weekly Update didn't seem like a big "go to hell" to PvE players.
