This game is NOT RNG.

Alright time to do some math for the people who keep telling me this game is RNG only. RNG always consists of uniform distribution, that means the chances to get an item is ALWAYS equal. For example: I have a cup filled with a red, green, blue and yellow ball in it. The chances I will grab a green ball is always the same as a yellow ball. Now, this theory does not apply to Destiny because: In all my raid gear loot so far I got: 7x Helmet 0x Gloves 5x Armor 11x Legs The chance that I will get a raid gear piece 23x and none of them are gloves is: 0,75 ^ 23 • 100 = 0,13% I'm not the only one who keeps getting the same gear, lots of people do. So what kind of lootdropsystem is it then? You tell me. All I can think of is some lootingsystem which is character or account based, where some people get loads of the same item, others get other items in big numbers. EDIT: The REASON I made this post is because I see LOADS of people have the same problem as I have. I just wanted to hear the community's opinion about it, but thats too hard for some peeps.

    Not to sure about the rest of the game but no way is the crucible loot system equally random... I've played a lot of PvP, it's always the average to less skilled player's who get rewarded... I think the drop percentage is increased the lower you place on the scoreboard.

A proper random number generator generates numbers without any pattern. So ideally if you generate a number between 1-10 then you have an equal probability of each number in that range. However using that generator you would would skew the probability in the favor of a certain outcome to create on odds based system. For example you would say event 1 gets numbers 1-5, event 2 gets numbers 6-8 and event 3 gets 9-10. Now event 1 has a weight of 5, 2 a weight of 3 and event 3 a weight of 2. The probability of a given event occurring is it's weight/the entire weight of the system. So event 1 has a probability of 5/10 or 50%. The item generation probably works (Or should work) similar to this. That being said I agree with you that something is off about the system. It seems like the weights aren't completely set and vary based off of some unseen factors. I personally think that something is wrong with the system in place because some people seem to get showered with rare loot while others are in a 'loot drought' so to speak.

    • There's a lower drop percentage for chest pieces and I'm pretty sure you only get the helmet by playing on hard.

    • Random is random. You could get nothing but helmets from now until 2015, it would still be random. Your sample size (ie one person) is considerably too small to derive any kind of meaningful data from.

If you flip a coin 10 times in a row and get heads all 10 times, when you flip it the 11th time you have no greater chance that it will be tails based on the previous 10 flips. Each and every flip is a 50/50 chance basing NOTHING on previous attempts. Same with RNG. Random being the keyword not round robin.

    • Your math is way off and you're making a lot of assumptions, RNG doesn't mean all results are equally likely. The fact that you got 23 pieces of gear would make other feel like you're incredibly lucky, b/c they haven't gotten any gear after multiple complete runs. That being said, I'm a set of gauntlets away from being 30 as well.

      • You will always have the same chance at getting gloves. You are also assuming those are the only 4 items on the loot table, which is incorrect. You have shards, energy, weapons, and boss specific items. We do not know the weight and value applied to each of these items as well. So, there is no way you can calculate your chance of not getting a specific item. As one of the posters mentioned below, the more trials you introduce the less likely it will be that you will not witness a unique event occurring (such as gloves dropping). However, that has nothing to do with your chances of seeing the gloves drop.

        • You did your probability wrong. If you have a bucket with 1 yellow marble 10 purple marbles, 100 blue and 1000 greens the odds are not the same for pulling any color. The loot drops are weighted and it's still rng

          RNG isn't uniform. It's random. Duh. With the same example you provided, you could theoretically grab the same colored ball an infinite amount of times. It just comes down to chance. Each ball has a 1 out of 4 chance to be drawn just like the raid pieces, but on each consecutive draw you aren't reducing the probability to get the same piece you previously acquired. Quit complaining.

        • Its RNG but they don't have defined tables and pools. EVERYTHING is a possible drop in the game from EVERY possible enemy you can kill. Level 1 Dregs can drop legendary engrams, level 28 Cabal ultras can too. If you play the crucible then EVERYTHING is available at a random pull of the slot machine after a match regardless of performance or activity or even participation (you joined with 20 seconds left as your team was losing and got Monte Carlo). The only time I have seen actual loot tables as we know them is in the raid and even then it's really done poorly. Once again, EVERYTHING can drop in the raid PLUS some very few raid specific armor/weapons but once again, its a dumb fire system that doesn't factor anything into account because its all one shared pool. Each boss has the same chance as every other boss and the chests to drop items. The only single enemy in the game that has a unique loot table is Aetheon. His special case is he can drop EVERYTHING in the game BUT ALSO Chatterwhite, Vex Mythoclast (hard), the legendary sparrow (hard), Aetheon's Epilogue, and the two legendary ships (normal and hard variant) that like all other ships are essentially copy/paste with different colors and are ultimately worthless as even int he loading/orbit screens you can't -blam!-ing see them because of the solar glare/bloom effect. That about sums it up don't you think?

        • You are correct. The game penalizes people who create three characters of the same role in order to farm the Raid. Go create a Titan and Warlock and you'll have better luck.

          I swear this happens to me also with legendary primary weapon. I haven't gotten anything else than pulse rifles with these engrams. It's so -blam!-ed up. EDIT: primary legendary engrams*

        • you miss a basic thing... the equal chance to get a R G B Y ball are the same only for one pick. the next pick is NOT affected from the result fo the previous pick. this is the usual error that a roulette player does. a RED number could even exit 17 time in a row without a single BLACK number, but the chance to get a BLACK or RED number are the same. That's the point that anyone misunderstood.
