I don't know if the system you play on matters, but I play on PS3. Anyway, the voice chat in Destiny is really finicky. Actually it seems to have gotten worse with the last couple of patches. Communication is a huge part of being a fireteam, and voice chat is really the only way to go, especially with the lag when bringing up the XMB, which would make text chat all the more difficult. I've had times where it worked perfectly for several hours, then other times where it only worked for certain events, and lately it hasn't worked that much at all, with the exception of Saturday for some reason. Why doesn't Bungie make sure this stuff (and their servers) are working properly before patching things that a small minority are whining about (loot cave, "OP" weapons, etc.)? Voice chat also makes online gaming more fun IMO.
