Yes, everyone is a unique snowflake

People keep thinking of the 3 classes as very similar and all related when really they're 3 different things entirely. It's not like being a soldier and having 3 different loadouts. It's more like being a body guard, a professor/archeologist, and (you guessed it) a hunter. Titans are the insurmountable walls that defended people as the great warriors and soldiers. Warlocks are scholars so intelligent that they're brought to the brink of reality and can bend space to their will, using this as a means of protection while their primary goal is collecting and maintaining knowledge that can help defeat the darkness among other things. And the hunters were people that had to adapt to the wilderness to survive while the major cities were being destroyed. They learned how to hunt great monsters, move lightly to avoid detection, and all around survive so you know they are good at combat and mobility. It so just happens that since the universe is so heavily populated with enemies, everyone needs to learn how to survive. It's just that those three specific roles are very important (protecting others, gathering knowledge, and scouting/surviving).

  • I don't think the complaint is about the idea behind them, it's about the functionality. Realistically, you have a grenade and a melee that isn't particularly different. If you boil it down, all three have a kind of nuke super (assuming nova bomb/foh/bladedancer is considered nuke) and all three have a unique. Locks have the lore-specific revive with sunsinger, Titans have the role-specific bubble, and hunters have the class-specific golden gun. But beyond that, there really is no difference. Varying levels of range and speed for Melee with specific perks. Grenades that are largely identical. I think the problem is in FPS PvP it's hard to provide a huge level of differentiation, what differentiation there is is compared to the 3 loadout system you mentioned above. It's like in CoD, you prestige and start at Level 1 with three loadouts, and even though it probably isn't ideal for your playstyle, you can wreck shop. That was the expectation, I think, so in this, when one class has something different, people cry foul. Ultimately though, I think they're as different as can be for now, but hopefully we see some big changes coming soon. I don't think it needs a complete overhaul, but I like change.
